Just Because We Have a Duty, Doesn't Mean We Can't Have Fun!

Open from 9/21 to 10/2 at 12am CST

H'ral of Bronze Sigurath, the Wingleader of Bahrain Wing, is looking for another Wingsecond. He trusts his choice to be well-equipped to handle things, after all, G'ar helps balance out his own habits, but another Wingsecond is needed. This is going to be a normal RP contest, run in a very standard way. The winner will receive a fully CC Brown or Green dragon. Keep this in mind when working on your profile!
While H'ral is very laid back, there are a few things he'd liked addressed by his Wingsecond choice!

How Do You Work?
H'ral is a man that, while he is lighthearted, teasing, and enjoys having fun, keeps to strict schedule. He expects his wingseconds to adhere as strongly to that as he does, and have a good head for paperwork.

All work and No Play...
H'ral likes to joke around and have fun, even making drills in to more lighthearted things every so often. Anyone that works with H'ral must be able to relax, as well as work hard. He can deal with more rigid people, but it's nice if you like to play too!

You're a what? Does it Matter?
Boy or girl, H'ral doesn't care. If you've proved yourself, and stood with the Weyr. how can he do anything but respect you? He gives little care how you identify so long as you do your job.

[Rider]
Name: S'vor
Age: 38
Sex: Male
Sexual Preference: Homosexual
Physical Description: S'vor is slightly above average height with an average to athletic build. He has dark blonde, curly hair and stone grey eyes. He has a clean-cut look and tends to wear simple, practical clothes for the job at hand.

Personality: Though quiet, S'vor is surprisingly engaging when approached. He quite enjoys conversation, and is happy to converse in all manners of topics. He is constantly learning, and enjoys trying out his knowledge and assessments by discussing them with people who are well versed on the subject. He believes strongly in the ideas of courtesy and chivalry, helping all those who ask him, regardless of his personal opinions on the person. He spends much of his time reading, and has acquired a working knowledge of a wide variety of subjects, which he is happy to share with people. Not just in the hypothetical, S'vor like to think his way around a problem and apply his ideas to real life. He enjoyed the planning and organizational aspect of farmcraft, seeing it as an interesting challenge, while enjoying the out-of-box thinking that went working as a magician.

S'vor is a private person. He believes everyone has the right to their opinion, and doesn't like those who intrude on others' beliefs. Even back when his own mindset was not so universally accepting, he would prefer to just live and let live. Now, S'vor's mindset is more in line with his dragon's, believing that all are equal and should be able to pursue their ambitions and desires to their full extent. He's always willing to help people when they ask, but isn't the sort that will go running to stop someone or tell them how to live their life.

S'vor can be a little shy at times. He's not the first to jump on an adventure or an excursion, but he also isn't hard to convince. He's like the kind of friend that won't join in at first, but that you get the sense is sort of hoping people will push them into it. 'Well, since you asked..' 'If you insist..' He's really just bad at putting himself out there, afraid that he'll be shot down. He's the type of person who would sit at the edge of a dance circle all night, watching and secretly wishing for an excuse to join in, but never able to work up the confidence to do it.. if it weren't for Maveth always pushing him, that is. She sees inside his soul. She knows what he really thinks, no matter what he says or how he acts. And as cool and composed as he might seem, he's really kind of a dork, one that geeks out about things and get excited fairly easily.

Though he may need a push the first few times, once he gets comfortable with something, he doesn't mind taking the initiative. Just as people may start to give up, thinking he doesn't consider them a friend, he may surprise them by suddenly acting friendly- like flipping a switch. But once he's comfortable, there's little he wouldn't do for them, or share with them, if they asked. He tends to get pretty enthusiastic about things. Once he commits to something, he's committed, and often goes hardcore into hobbies.

Though seemingly scholarly in mannerisms, S'vor is no less bold or courageous when it comes to thread or missions. He has a daring streak, and would willingly risk his life to save someone from his wing. If something is dangerous or difficult, he'll always be the first to volunteer. It's not that he's reckless or like danger, but he sticks strongly to his principles and doesn't believe he could ask someone else to do something he would or hasn't done himself.

Three Positive Traits: Eloquent, Courteous, Intellectual
Three Negative Traits: Shy, Private, Unconventional

History: S'vor was born into a Weyrhold that had recently lost its only queen. Many of the lower ranking riders left to join other Weyrs in the area, particularly Western, leaving the Hold with an aging, ailing population of bitter brown and bronze riders, of which S'vor's father was one. A former wingleader, he had always been a little overly traditional, but the decline of their Hold only redoubled his disdain towards the lesser colors, seeing 'blues and greens not knowing their place' as the primary cause of the Weyrhold's downfall. The leadership (in fact, fairly rigid) were 'too lenient' in his mind, and their gold far too willing to fly 'those lowly browns'. With no one there to challenge that opinion, his father's words were the only truth S'vor ever knew. Without the anger to drive them, but taking it as fact (as most children do) that his father was correct, S'vor began to construct his own arguments and rationals for why he was right, believing that his father's opinions were his own.

As the dragonriders' power within the Hold diminished, S'vor was required to take up a craft to help support his family, as candidacy was no longer an option, eventually joining the farming crafthall that was in the area. Though his parents bemoaned the 'lowly' profession, S'vor himself quite liked studying agriculture, and in particular farm management. One day when he was working in the fields, he was surprised to see a dragon he didn't recognize coming to land nearby. The rider told him they were searchriders for Western Weyr, and invited the young boy to return with him as a candidate. Though S'vor wanted nothing more than to accept the offer on the spot, he told the rider that he would have to talk to his parents first. The rider agreed, saying he would be coming back this way in a sevenday and would accept his answer then.

At first, his father was staunchly against it, having a particular hatred for Western as the Weyr that 'stole' their riders. He painted it like the villain in a story, filling young riders minds with lies and leading them astray. But S'vor promised that he wouldn't be brainwashed by the Weyr, he would just take one of their dragons and leave. It was a tough decision. On the one hand, he was afraid of losing his son to the Weyr's radical ideologies, but on the othother would probably be his only chance to impress a dragon. S'vor finally managed to convince him by saying he could try to recruit other riders back to the Weyrhold, 'liberating' them from Western's coercion.

The Weyr came as quite a shock to the sheltered youth. S'vor really would've preferred to just keep to himself, wait to impress, and then leave, but he'd promised his father, so he didn't hide his opinions on rank and color, something which was met with near universal disdain. Though his opinions were known, S'vor himself was never discourteous or cruel to the kinds of riders he supposedly hated. He never failed to show respect for a blue or green rider who outranked him. He found his own ways to rationalize around it.. like that he was a guest here so he had no choice but to abide by their system, or that it would be easier to convince people of his side if he took the moral high ground. In reality, it just wasn't in his nature to be unkind to people, no matter how much his father told him they deserved it. Still, once people found out about his opinions, he tended to be more isolated. Other candidates tended to avoid him, and S'vor himself didn't do much to help bridge the gap.

But while others pushed him away, one person was willing to look past that. Instead of shunning him, there was another young candidate who took it upon himself to change S'vor's mind. Instead of closing off or getting angry, he would debate him, listening to his arguments instead of just instantly deriding them. But he would pick out the logical flaws too, teasing out the things that S'vor really believed from the words he was just repeating from his father. Though many times, they agreed to disagree, they formed a tenuous friendship, and would often enjoy discussing and debating other topics, on which they frequently found that they agreed. The more S'vor respected his friend, the more he couldn't help but respect his opinions, even if he didn't (yet) agree with them. He started scaling back his own arguments bit by bit, making them less and less extreme. It wasn't that blues and greens couldn't show leadership, it was just that bronzes were more inclined to it.. He'd say. Yet it was still always something that drove a wedge between them, especially after his friend impressed, to a chromatic no less.

As time went on, it was clear S'vor's opinions were changing. In the early days, he was more afraid of impressing a blue or a green than he was of not impressing at all, knowing his father would probably disown him. But the truth was, he desperately wanted a dragon, and the longer he waited the more he began to feel (in his hearts of hearts) that a green or a blue really wouldn't be all that bad... His opinions were put to the test the very next turn, when a small green hatchling tumbled out of her shell and headed straight for him. It certainly didn't help that several boys burst out laughing at seeing the stuffy 'bronzes are best' candidate approached by a green, but in the end, it was really no choice at all. That perfect feeling of impression eclipsed all else, and he knew she belonged with him and he with her.

Like his friend, Maveth did not judge him for his opinions, but was constantly challenging them. With her, he couldn't hide behind his words either. She knew the truth in his heart, and forced him to confront it. Impressing a green wasn't the only world-shattering revelation he had to deal with either. His parents had always grouped same sex relationships in with chromatics like one automatically implied the other. Of course that wasn't true, but what was true was that S'vor had never really been all that interested in woman, even though he knew the only 'correct' relationship was one between a bronze and a gold rider. There weren't many young people in his old Weyrhold, so the topic hadn't really come up that much before moving to Western. And of course, there was no hiding from Maveth.. (Why don't you tell that person that you think they're cute? No. Why? Because I don't! Yes you do. ... If you don't tell them, I'm going to tell their dragon. Alright, fine. I'll tell them..)

After graduating, S'vor was uncertain about what to do next. The plan had always been to go back to his old Weyrhold, but his father had basically told him to return with a bronze, or not at all. Even if he hadn't, he wouldn't subject Maveth to that kind of prejudice from his parents or anyone. But he wasn't entirely certain he wanted to remain in the Weyr either. So after saying goodbye to his friend, the two of them set out travelling. So much had changed that he wasn't sure what he thought anymore.. But he knew he wanted to find out.

They spent some time at a Weyr, more traditional than Western, but not quite as bad as his old Weyrhold. But despite once sharing many of their opinions, S'vor was soon surprised to find himself growing tired of the same kind of rank and file riders that would cling to the old system, and more and more he found himself repeating his friend's old arguments. He stayed for several turns, mostly keeping to himself and leaving people to their opinions, but he found out hard to relate to anyone there, and eventually decided to leave.

For a while he worked in a small farming Hold, going back to his old craft. But Maveth had an adventurous side that tended to get them into all kinds of scrapes, before it was clear that she wasn't suited to the quiet life. Over the next five turns, they travelled all over Pern, meeting people from all walks of life. He wound up working as a guard for a small courtesan hall for a while. With uneven numbers of women in the hall, he was often bullied into being a dancing partner by several of the apprentices, though in truth he really didn't mind. After watching him for a while, one of the masters asked if he would like to start talking classes at the hall officially. Of course, he declined, but he was swiftly overruled by Maveth who could feel that he was secretly curious. Though some subjects were beyond the purview of the shy young man, he found dancing, diplomacy, and several of the other entertainment fields to be quite interesting, and was grateful that Maveth forced him to stick it out in the end.

After walking the tables, he left with one of the dancers to join a group of traveling performers. If he thought Western Weyr was a culture shock, the circus group was something else. There was every kind of person there, on every kind of dragon. He met a white for the first time, something his parents had called 'abominations', so they seemed pretty nice to him. He worked for several turns creating tricks for magicians to perform on stage, until he was once again nudged and encouraged by his dragon and others into performing some of them himself. Though he was never going to be a showy stage magician, he would do some close up magic to keep the crowds entertained before the show. As someone who was a little socially awkward at times, he found magic to be a nice bridge into a conversation, when he didn't know what to say.

Throughout the turns, S'vor kept in touch with his friend from the Weyr. They would write each other often, and S'vor would talk about everything from what he was doing, to the people he'd met, to things he was thinking about at the time. It was clear from their conversations that he had done a complete turn around, and his friend frequently implored him to return to the Weyr, though S'vor always politely declined. He was a little anxious about going back to where people knew him as such a different person, it was true. But he was also just happy where he was, and saw no reason to leave for now.

When thread returned, S'vor worked with the other riders in the group to move everyone to safety. Everyone in the small caravan was safe, but there was nothing they could do but watch as silver rain devastated the surrounding areas. As soon as he was able, S'vor sent word to the Weyr to ask about his friend's safety, only to find out his friend had been injured during threadfall. He didn't know the extent, but he dropped everything and rushed to the Weyr immediately to see him. But it was too late. S'vor was heartbroken. Maybe one more rider in the wings would have made a difference, maybe not. But he knew he couldn't run from this anymore. He rejoined the Weyr as his friend had always hoped and put all of his effort into battling thread.

About half a turn ago, he started seeing a much younger candidate. The young man was already in a relationship with someone, so he knew they were never going to have much of a future together. But the heart wants what the heart wants, and Maveth was the first to remind him of that. And S'vor was happy just to be with him.

[Dragon]
Name: Maveth
Age: 20
Color: Green!
Size: 22'

Personality: You will never meet a more open and understanding dragon than Maveth. She is always arguing the best in everyone, saying 'perhaps they meant it this way' or 'let's try seeing it from their point of view'. She wants everyone to be as they are, and find joy while following their own heart. It's easy to be yourself around Maveth. There's very little about someone that could shock her. She will never scoff at someone's dream, however far flung or silly they might fear it would seem. She believes it is every person's right to recklessly pursue whatever it is that makes them happy.

Unbiased in the purest sense, Maveth will sometimes support positions that others find immoral, such as the kind of relationship her rider is in, or those that refuse to fight thread. That's their prerogative. Or course, it is also the Weyr's prerogative to track them down if it so wishes. While she believes that everyone has the right follow their own nature, and will not judge them for that, that doesn't mean she thinks they shouldn't face the consequences of their actions. It is a criminal's choice to break the law, but society has a right to punish them for it.

Maveth has a wanderlust streak in her. While Hers could be content with the simple, if it weren't for thread's return, Maveth has always had an eye for adventure. There's just so many places to go, so many things to do, people to meet, and Maveth want to see it all! Life's too short not to chase down every opportunity, which she frequently reminds Hers of, as well as anyone else who will listen to her. Go chase that dream! Be with that person! Don't let yourself be inhibited. It's the things you don't do that you'll regret the most, or so this eager, adventurous green would tell you.

Despite her all-loving and open hearted nature, Maveth is surprisingly uninterested in romance. She views flights and a necessary and convientient way of relieving stress, but isn't looking for a long term relationship, though she often encourages others. She seems more interested in her rider's friends and partners, forming close bond with the other people in his life, though she's still as friendly with dragons as she is with anyone!

Only when it comes to thread would you get to see a different side of Maveth. As one who cherishes life above all else, she hates thread with a fiery passion and is also extra dedicated when it comes to drills and threadfall, suddenly becoming fiery and enraged whenever she discusses the subject.

What are their thoughts about Western Politics?? S'vor obviously had a somewhat complicated past when it comes to opinion on color politics. He's done a fairly big turn around since his younger days, believing now that color is nothing more than a matter of size, with all colors having an equal distribution of intelligence and leadership skills. He believes that open debate and democracy are the ways forward, but (following his friend's example) tries not to close himself off entirely to other opinions. Though he'll debate with anyone from High Reaches, trying to use arguments and logic bring them around to their side, he plays something of a devil's advocate against those who rant and rave against Pern's other 'oppressive' Weyrs, trying to see things through their eyes, believing discourse and not divisiveness is the better way forward for everyone.

Are they willing to help H'ral make the hard decisions? Mete out punishments as needed? Maveth's sense of fairness makes it hard for her not to make the tough calls. As much as she wants everyone to be happy, she hates unfair treatment, so if the rules are stated a certain way, she will insist that the defined punishment be handed to all equally. Of course, she is willing to be over-ruled by her wingleader if he deems it necessary for extenuating circumstances or other considerations, but Maveth will be the first to remind everyone what the rules are, how they were broken, and what the prescribed punishment should. It's only fair.

Why do they want to be Wing Second? S'vor wants to do anything he can to help in the Weyr's fight against thread. He spent many turns in a Weyr after graduating, so he flies well in the wings, but planning and organization are even more his fortes. He is a strategic and thoughtful person, good at analyzing situations and giving good suggestions. He has a mind that's always working, and he can't help but want to jump in and start putting it to use.

What do they think about the Thread's return, and the way it effected Western? S'vor was devastated by thread's return and the damage it caused. He is painfully aware of the effect it's had, not just in the Weyr, but outside of it as well. Part of him will always regret not returning to the Weyr earlier when his friend asked, wondering if he might have made a difference when that day came.

Are you ok with RPing with myself and the rest of the Wing? (speed is not an issue) Absolutely! I'm always up for more RP! owo

[Rider]
Name: Joshala (Jaw-SHA-la, goes by “Joshie”)
Age: 28
Sex: Female
Sexual Preference: Heterosexual (and very reserved)
Physical Description: Joshala has a light-skinned, heart-shaped face framed by wavy black hair cut in a medium bob. Her best features are her arched eyebrows and proud, straight nose. She thinks her worst feature is her eyes, which are a shade of light grayish-green that she’s not fond of. She is 5’8” and fit, but has an ample soft layer over the muscle, giving her a very feminine, almost round look.

Personality: Joshala doesn’t get angry easily and usually speaks with a soft voice. Her quiet demeanor can come off as shy, but once someone has spoken with her a few times and shown themselves to be earnest, she’ll open right up like a sun-warmed flower. But don’t expect her to respond to flirting with any more than a raised eyebrow. Any physical or spoken affection for a loved one is going to be a private matter. All public attempts at hugging will result in a not-so-gentle shove, regardless of who tries it.

She hates asking for favors. Some of it is pride, and some of it is mistrust. In her previous Weyr, questions were often rebuffed, and requests for help resulted in mockery or even punishment if she went to the wrong person. Anything she can do herself, she’ll do, even if it’s difficult or time-consuming. She is smart and will resort to self-study, training or cheap workarounds to get it done.

She is normally very calm but has developed an itch for the thrill of being frightened. She doesn’t indulge while actually on duty, but occasionally she’ll give in to the urge to do something dumb, like overdoing a certain maneuver, or goading Hansoth into waiting until the last moment to pull out of a dive, just to enjoy the insane, heart-pumping laughter.

Joshala has a pet canine who rides with her when off-duty, and sometimes even on-duty, when permitted and if no Thread is in the sky. She plinks away at the gitar when she’s bored, and can play fairly complicated tunes but has had no formal training. She doesn’t like the color green, and has a half-joking theory that that was why she Impressed a brown instead of a green dragon.

Three Positive Traits: Independent, calm, intelligent
Three Negative Traits: Reserved, thrill-seeker, mistrustful

History: Joshala was an only child, born at a small cothold within Ruatha’s jurisdiction. Her parents were drudges who worked the fields in growing season and did whatever else needed done in the offseason, sometimes leaving the cothold for weeks at a time. They were always quite busy, so Joshala often had to entertain herself as a child. Her favorite pastimes were practicing with borrowed instruments or exploring and playing games with one of the resident canines. She taught them all sorts of fun tricks, such as “counting” with a paw or hopping about on their hind legs.

She was Searched at age sixteen and was only at High Reaches for a couple of months before Impressing Hansoth – a brown dragon. She had previously been quite carefree and pretty oblivious to romantic relationships. Coming from Ruathan territory, home to several white dragons, she had also no concept of the severity of the traditions of the Weyr. That freedom ended along with her unpleasant introduction to several stigmas associated with female brownriders. She didn’t like other girls. She wasn’t even sure that she liked boys, either! Boys were so icky! What was this “liking” thing, anyway? Her development was tad slow there and she’d only a vague idea. And no, she wasn’t trying to flout tradition, or authority!

The bullying she endured throughout weyrling training and beyond by and large had to do with her supposed romantic preferences. Her encounters with bronze, brown and goldriding bullies, and even some traditional nonriders, more than a few times resulted in mocking, unwanted embraces and rude flight-related jokes and threats. When Hansoth was old enough and chased for the first time, Joshala absolutely refused to take part, believing that nothing good could come of losing control over herself in the presence of her enemies. She was always prepared with one of her few friends in the event of an overwhelming goldflight.

The positive side of the experience was that her figurative spine grew thick and strong, and her wits were honed. She learned to avoid trouble and became difficult to find when she didn’t want to be, carrying out her daily routines at odd and varying hours and in the presence of many witnesses. She also bought herself a canine pup once she began receiving wages as a Wingrider, and trained it to warn would-be bullies off. It worked surprisingly well, but of course didn’t solve everything. Hansoth, who had been gently prodding Joshala from the beginning, finally convinced her that it would be better to go somewhere where they were wanted and accepted for who they were. In their fifth turn together, the pair transferred to Western Weyr.

Western was a very different world for them. By comparison, its people were as warm as the weather, weather which required Joshala to steadily collect an entirely new wardrobe in order to be comfortable. Female brown- and blueriders, male greenriders, whiteriders – all seemed to be safe and welcome there. Joshala and Hansoth gladly joined the ranks and have since been involved in firestone pickups, Threadfall and even a few pirate roundups.

Joshala’s parents are still at the Ruathan cothold. She invited them to move to Western Weyr after she transferred due to the wonderful weather and many work opportunities, but they gently refused out of loyalty to their lifelong home. Her father was a little put off by her “abandonment” of her duty at High Reaches and doesn’t visit often, but her mother regularly comes to Western to stay with her for a few days.

[Dragon]
Name: Hansoth
Age: 12
Color: Brown
Size: 34’

Personality: Hansoth is a very easygoing dragon. He’s a tad lazy and tends to do work slowly, even though he knows he’ll get scolded for it. He doesn’t fool around with drills or Threadfall, however. Danger is something he’d rather not provoke. There is a particular green he’s very attached to (hoping to plot with someone to find out who she is), but he’s somewhat shy and reserved with other females.

He seems a bit immature sometimes, but most of his inner workings are quite serious. He believes in his natural role as a brown, a little above some dragons but a little below others. However, he places a lot of importance in freedom from discrimination. He doesn’t care about appearance. He cares more about an individual’s personality and heart. Hide color won’t automatically win his loyalty. It’s the ability to lead, and lead well, that he admires.

A few little quirks: He’s very ticklish around his ribs and doesn’t like being touched there, but adores having his face and neck scratched. He loves his rider’s pet canine as if it were his own and can often be seen playing with it or resting with it cradled in his forelegs.

What are their thoughts about Western Politics? There’s a little brow-raising going on at all the bronzes and golds in ranking positions, but as long as they lead benevolently and don’t start encouraging all that color-superiority nonsense, Joshala and Hansoth are okay with it. They like that people are voted into ranking positions, but wish that “normal” riders had a direct vote instead of merely the ability to nominate someone and trust the Council to make the best decision.

Are they willing to help H'ral make the hard decisions? Mete out punishments as needed? Yes. Joshala has toughened up quite a bit since Impressing Hansoth, and isn’t going to put up with very much, if any nonsense.

Why do they want to be Wing Second? It’s all about preserving this good new world they’ve found. Hansoth was the driving force of the decision to apply, but it’s one that Joshala is right on board with. She knows her drills, can take direction, and she’s fairly comfortable with her fellow wingmembers, but not the kind to let friends walk all over her authority when it needs to be exercised.

What do they think about the Thread's return, and the way it effected Western? It was a mess they were happy to help clean up, that’s for sure. They had five turns at HR to be indoctrinated that Thread would return, so they weren’t shocked by its appearance. They were fairly mentally prepared and ready to take action against it, whether assigned in a fighting wing, search and rescue, or taking down raiders.

Are you ok with RPing with myself and the rest of the Wing? (speed is not an issue) Always! heart

[Rider]
Name: Onasta
Age: 31
Sex: Female
Sexual Preference: Heterosexual
Physical Description: The first thing anyone ever sees when they notice Onasta coming is her flaming red hair, shoulder length and usually left in loose falls rather than tied in place. Her vibrantly flowing hair is only tied in place while fighting Thread as it could obscure her view. Many a rider has quietly noted how well it fits her personality, but only when she is nowhere near to hear it. Naturally pale despite her constantly being outdoors and covered in freckles all over, only her lower arms, hands, and cheeks show any color at all. Her fine-boned features are all the better with her freckles dashed over them as it gives her an impish look that makes it hard to take her seriously unless she is angry.

Petite to match her fine features, the red head is only just above five feet tall but bundles all the attitude of a grown man in that size. Onasta's height is comical when seen standing next to Jibasth's towering size, a common joke among those that fly with her that usually recieves a raised eyebrow and smirk rather than an actual response. Dainty size aside she is not a coddled person, covered in callouses and her hands a web of pale scars that show just how hard she works for Western Weyr.

In the center of her upper back is a secret that only a select few have ever seen, a brand in the shape of a circle. Inside the circle are three lines like claw marks. The brand is stretched from age, a sign that she grew into it over years rather than recieve it as an adult. Onasta makes an enormous effort to keep it hidden, even going so far as to wear an undershirt that specifically covers it. The mark bears the last remnants of her life before the Weyr, when turmoil and distrust ruled her life.

Personality: Onasta's personality is as large as her dragon and it is somehow packed into her tiny body. She is fierce, and at times close to violently, protective of the Weyr and all its Holds. That being said she does not believe in being overly rigid and loves to joke and goof around with those in her Wing as if they were brothers and sisters. To her they are after all, having never known her own family she adopts anyone that flies in the same wing as her and does her best to keep them safe. Everyone is on the same level in Onasta's mind, only the Wingleader can make her fall in line due to loyalty, but if someone angers her she will allow them to hear her side no matter who it is. Wingleader or not.

That anger burns deep in her when someone angers Onasta. Despite her best attempts at holding it in, and Jibasth routinely informs her that she will develop an ulcer if she continues, she will eventually pop and growl at anyone who will listen. Usually that honor is given to her best friend Nicara who makes a habit of keeping all the secrets the fiery rider can trust her with. Many a cup of hot klah has been spilled when Onasta begins gesticulating with her hands during a particularly frustrating story. This anger, however, is like a small volcano blowing its top. Showy and expressive but in her case it is usually short lived, she calms dow quickly once she tells others how she feels and deals with her feelings. Apologies often follow her small explosions and she has never once held a grudge against another. Grudges simply are worth her time or health! Indeed the only grudge she has ever borne is towards the silver Threads that took her friends, her family.

Not one to be trifled with, even if joy resurfaces quickly and grudges dissipate in moments, Onasta will not allow her own temper to get in the way of any duty that she has. Even if she must bite her lower lip and hold onto her frustration until a more appropriate moment she will comply to accomplish her goals. Goals that she set in motion when she was very young as she set watching dragons fly through the skies in drills. In order to fulfill those goals she will uphold the rules and traditions passed down by dragonmen from ancient times, though she does believe in hard work overcoming any of the conservative short sights that still pass for common within High Reaches Weyr. Onasta wants some responsibility in her life, the ability to be of service to those around her, though this can sometimes spiral back to her wanting to have some sort of value in her own life.

Unafraid of being around large groups of people and often finding a sort of relief when bathed in the glow of company she will be the first to initiate conversations and show off her good natured personality. Though not outwardly fond of gossip, Onasta enjoys stories that she can add to her repitoire and pass on to eager ears, however she will not pass along anything that seems damaging or hurtful to others. In these situations she is usually admonishing of the one speaking ill, attempting to bring harmony if there is conflict.

Three Positive Traits: Loyal, Fearless, Fun-loving
Three Negative Traits: Hot-headed, Strict, Over-protective

History: No one is sure exactly where Onasta was born, certainly she has no parents to tell her the secret, and if she does know she isn't spoiling the mystique her unknown origin creates. She was Searched by Western Weyr while an orphaned Holdbrat living in Rivercrest Hold where she had been dropped by a pirate ship at age five. Her comings and goings were never exactly controlled so much as noted by the adults around her, no one attempted to control her as a child, in fact they often allowed her to do as she pleased. Good or bad, usually bad. Her dealings with pirates were just beginning, over the course of her years in Rivercrest she would steal, cheat, lie, and otherwise reak havoc throughout the shops and brothels in the Hold. While anyone from the outside would have believed that she was as evil as any of the pirates she dealt with on a daily basis they would be wrong, the brand that burned fresh on her back showcased that she was the property of a particularly wicked pirate captain who spent quite a bit of time there.

That bit is the only part of her history that anyone knows, told to the dragonrider that Searched her by a shop owner in the earnest attempt to have the rider take the owner's daughter instead. Luckily for Onasta the rider's dragon was much more insistant than the shop owner and she was able to leave the Hold on the back of a large blue dragon. A flight she has never forgotten.

Wind in her face, sunset to the west, the young girl rode her first dragon to Western Weyr and was completely smitten by the life. Her life forever changed as she settled into the routine set by the Candidatemaster. Lessons were new to her and the rules that were suddenly imposed on her had her doubting herself, only one rule had been placed on her as a child, always pay the captain. Now with so many she was overwhelmed, but a small weyrbrat helped her to overcome the worst of it and adapt to life without much issue. Her old habits took some time to break, but she sought to break them before the first Impression she would stand at, wanting badly to Impress a dragon with her strength of character. Nicara, the small weyrbrat she befriended, did her best to aid Onasta every step of the way with her calm demeanor and ability to accomplish most any task set before her. If Onasta's hand slid to relieve someone of a coin, it was Nicara's hand that placed it back almost as quickly.

The two became nearly inseperable, only their schedules pulling them apart to a certain degree. If one was seen without the other it was certain that they were at least close by, keeping an eye on their friend. With Nicara's help, Onasta's skills and confidence steadily grew until she Impressed a large brown hatchling at her second Impression. Jibasth, as she would instantly come to know the hatchling, became Onasta's entire world; everything from his care to training for their eventual flight became her entire reason for being and she relished in the opportunity to learn as much as she could about the growing brown. Nicara was whisked away for a time to learn how to play the violin, something that her quiet and ever present friend excelled at and Onasta was alone. Or rather, entirely too busy training for her fist year to notice the shorter spans of time she could spend with her best friend. It became harder and harder for her to notice the length of time that passed, training relentlessly to attain the goal she picked for herself and her now giant brown dragon. Onasta and Jibasth set their sights on becoming ranking members in their first wing.

Though she briefly lost touch with her best friend, Onasta had no shortage of help in her daily life. Jibasth was of the same mind, her perfect partner, he calmed her when she was angry, laughed and joked with her at both apropriate and inapropriate times, acted as a conscience when she needed a compass. The two excelled at their trainings with few incidents and were eventually placed as a watchrider in her late teens. Placed over Black Sands Hold for a number of turns, Onasta was intensely bored and sought out ways to ease her particular boredom during her guard duties. It was in Black Sands that she learned to sing for both Jibasth and the Watch Wher, both of whom appeared to enjoy it immensely and urged her to continue.

----------

Many years out of her watchrider shifts, Onasta is still attempting to make a name for herself and her dragon within the ranks of her wing. Her boistrous personality and the way she considers everyone family helped for many years, but she's gunning for a higher position that she set her eyes on many years ago. With the return of Thread's looming menace she is more resolute than ever to meet her goals and protect those she cares about.

[Dragon]
Name: Jibasth
Age: 16
Color: Brown
Size: 42

Personality: The water to his rider's fire and the conscience she needs during her most unstable moments, Jibasth is a picture of mellow and relaxed. Rare is the situation that upsets his mellow cool and if it does manage to occur he will meet it with every ounce of strength and resolve in his large body. Jibasth is a hard worker by nature and can often be found working towards the good of the Weyr, both with and without his rider. Onasta's beliefs are a mirror for his own ambitions and he works together with her to accomplish any goals they have.

Not the most acrobatic flyer around, he makes up for his shortcomings with stamina to spare and a quick eye for danger. Jibasth has been known to put himself between his rider and the menace of Thread, allowing it to touch his large size rather than hers and popping Between to rid himself of the bite. It is a point of contention that has worn a hole in the both of them, as neither is willing to allow harm to come to the other without a fight. The big brown often wins when in the air, his "dainty speck" of a human often finds it hard to argue when strapped to his sturdy shoulders miles above ground. It is an argument the two continue on the ground.

The arguments of her physical safety aside, he will allow Onasta to run amok and pursue any and all things in life. He serves as her biggest cheerleader and Jibasth has encouraged her every step of the way, and always finds it returned in her endearing love and trust in him. He can see into her past, knows her deepest feelings, and does his best to help her come to grips with the darkness that she tries hard to hide from others. It took years but Jibasth managed to convince her to use her songs to release the past troubles from her heart.

Plus he gets to hear her sing.

What are their thoughts about Western Politics?? As a small brown rider Onasta is certainly happy that she was taken in by the most liberal Weyr. It gave her the opportunity to meet Jibasth and she feels safer having a council of minds overseeing the Weyr along with her beloved Weyrleader and Weyrwoman, who give her hope for the future of Pern.

Are they willing to help H'ral make the hard decisions? Mete out punishments as needed? Of course! Hard decisions are what being a Wingsecond is all about, that and paperwork. Her anger problems can occasionally pose a problem, but these are few and far between as she is willing to let bygones be.

Why do they want to be Wing Second? The riders and dragons in her Wing are her family. Onasta believes in protecting her family no matter the personal cost. It is a rank she set her sights on years ago and is now looking to secure through hard work.

What do they think about the Thread's return, and the way it effected Western? She is furious and wants to eradicate the menace from her skies to keep Pern safe. In the first fall she lost friends and wing-mates and takes the falling Thread as the deadly threat that it is, training harder with her dragon to meet the ancient menace.

Are you ok with RPing with myself and the rest of the Wing? (speed is not an issue) I might be a little slow at times, thanks to work and school, but I love to RP and would be totally down for any and all plots involving the Wing.
