Physical Description:
Standing at 5'9", Ferrit is all angles and straight lines. She has a slim, almost thin build, with very modest hips and chest. Her sunstreaked pale blonde hair is pin-straight and hangs to the middle of her back; she usually wears it swept to one side or the other, or tied back when she's working in the kitchens. Ferrit's eyes are a dark blue-grey with long lashes and fairly strong brows, set in an oval face with sharply defined cheekbones, a straight, sharply pointed nose, and a surprisingly soft and pouty mouth. She looks almost boyish (in fact, she often got mistaken for a boy as a teen). Fair-skinned, she tans easily and rarely burns. Her sense of style is simple, trousers and tunics and sometimes sleeveless pullovers; in the kitchen, she wears an apron and the double-breasted white blouse of a Crafthall-trained chef.
Personality:
The best word to describe Ferrit is direct. You always know where you stand with her, for both good and ill; if you're on her good side, you'll get smiles and grins, hugs and playful punches, and if you're on her bad side you're liable to have things flung at you accompanied by loud and colorful cursing. Ferrit is a passionate young woman, especially when it comes to food and cooking, doubly so if it's baking. As meticulous with her recipes as a scientist, she is a whirlwind in the kitchen and is the sort to take charge of a meal service almost as soon as prep starts, barking orders and chopping ingredients so fast her hand becomes a blur. If everything is not perfectly prepared to her specifications and delicious, she will hold everyone accountable for it -- because it ultimately reflects on her and her alone.
But when things go right and a service is flawless, Ferrit shares the accolades while basking in the glory of a job well done. She'll crack open a bottle of wine and share it with her staff, allow them to serve themselves as much as they want, and swan about the kitchen giving hugs to everyone like a lord. This carries over into her training as a Candidate; she is extremely hard on herself to make everything perfect, and if she gets a thing wrong she tends to take it out on everyone else as well as herself. Her instructors have cautioned her to keep her temper in check because it would affect her dragon when she Impresses, and she's trying really hard to rein it in, with varying degrees of success.
She's definitely not a girly-girl, though she likes girly girls as much as she likes the tomboys. Ferrit makes no bones about her preferences; she's just as big a flirt as some of the boys are. She has been too busy with her lifelong cooking and baking and now Candidate training to actually pursue a relationship, though, so she's very unfamiliar with the chase and all that. Her first Flight once she Impresses will likely be a revelation…

History:
Born to a pair of Lower Cavern workers at Ista Weyr, Ferrit grew up in the kitchens alongside her parents. She was a steady, eager worker as a child, happily playing sous chef to her mum and dad. But she decided early on that she wanted more out of life than just doing things by rote and following chef's orders: she wanted to learn the alchemy of food. So at age 10 Turns, she was apprenticed to the Cooking Crafthall at Southern Hold. She proved herself a rapt and enthusiastic student, soaking up knowledge like flour soaks up milk. When she walked the tables at age 20 to become a Journeyman, Ferrit was already a well-rounded cook specializing in baked goods, breads and cakes and biscuits.
The rise to Journeyman prompted another decision to be made: stay at the Hall and work toward Craftmaster, or go out into the world and pick up her own clients? Ferrit opted to have her metaphorical cake and eat it too: stay at the Hall and take the odd assignment as a cook-for-marks. And this arrangement worked well for a couple of Turns. Then came the assignment to Western Weyr.
Ferrit was originally sent to Western at age 22 to staff the kitchen as a chef and that was all. She was hand-picked by the Masterchef herself for the assignment, knowing it was an important one and one that could last some time. When the dragon and rider who were to transport Ferrit to Western arrived, though, the rider informed her that his dragon thought she would make a very good Candidate. And then the dragon pushed her with his head and licked her, and that was that.
She has been able to keep her hand in with baking and cooking in between her Candidate training, much to the delight of the kitchen staff and anyone who eats her food.
