Several suns had set since she first opened her eyes, and, despite this time passed, the uneasiness, which nagged at her gut, had not diminished the slightest. This world was so new to her, and she had naught but the little intuition she had. It was not much, but it was still something. She wanted more, though, more knowledge in order to draw back the veil of ignorance she felt draped over her. Her eyes narrowed as she kneaded the ash beneath her paws, claws faintly scoring the obsidian stone the ash covered. She was growing restless, longing to find the others of her kind that surely must be somewhere in this land. Though she could not explain it, she knew she was not alone, and there was evidence to support this claim. The smells of fire and soot did little to mask the scents of other beings wafting in the breeze, and the ash covering the land did not hide the tracks of paws that had passed through – paws like her own. Perhaps the owners of these roaming paws had the answers she sought. She expected that they did, for any one that was not in the same situation as she would know more about this world, and even others who had recently awoken might be able to offer a different perspective on the feelings she felt.

In a land so fiery, why did she feel a chill in her heart?

It was a slight feeling, with only enough presence to be considered a mild nuisance at best, but it was still enough to toy with her wandering thoughts when she had nothing else to which she could divert her attention. It was this sense of incompleteness which she could not shake, but she could not truly explain, even if she knew she was only half of a spirit. Was that fact enough to cause this feeling?

A sigh escaped her as she lifted herself up from the black earth. Her pale gaze flicked out towards the direction where the sun rose, and she strode out in that direction. She had not the faintest idea where her paws would lead her, though she could only hope it would not be towards danger. She did not know what danger would be till she felt the anxiety which would inevitably follow close its jaws around her throat. She had been lucky enough to avoid any perilous ventures as of yet, but she was still very young and not eager to test the limits of her good fortune. Instead, she prayed that the wind would send the scent of another her way and she could finally meet someone who could help her understand this enormous world of which she was now a part.

Her prayers were answered soon after when she sniffed the air and detected the welcomed smells of other beings – other B'alam. She turned, almost without thought, and followed these smells. They seemed to grow more intense as she continued forward, as if they were approaching her. She did not know whether to be warm toward or wary of those she would encounter. Only time would tell what this chance meeting would demand of her.
