Physical Description: Navi has soft reddish-blonde hair that is slightly curly, and grey eyes.
Personality: Navi has a slow and deliberate manner, with good work ethic and attention to detail that makes him an excellent instrument crafter. Though he's good at music, Navi is too shy to want to sing in front of people, and suffers from performance anxiety. He's a good instrumentalist, but doesn't have the exuberance or stage presence of most Harpers. A little sarcastic and a little deadpan, he isn't especially shy when it comes other things, just performing.
Navi was always a quiet, mild-mannered child. He is pretty independent, and the worst behavioral problem he used to have back in the creche was that he would often wander off to do his own thing. He demanded very little from his parents or creche workers, which could sometimes cause a problem as they took it to mean he wants very little, perhaps not giving him as much attention as he needs. He is sharp, perceptive, and quick to pick up on things, often making himself useful before he is asked. If he notices someone reaching for something, he'll naturally get up and get it for them. If someone starts tidying something away, he'll instinctively join in. That makes him an easy person to be on a team with, anticipating people's needs before they have them.
He rarely tries to take the lead, but isn't really a follower either, preferring to either work diplomatically and cooperative with a group, or by himself. If he doesn't agree with the majority or thinks there's a better way of doing things, he will go off by himself and do it that way. And if people want to follow and join in, he doesn't mind. On the other hand, if someone else has the better idea, he has no problem admitting that and following their lead.
Navi is protective, even possessive, of the people he likes. But he's not confident enough ask for attention directly, or even think that's something he could do. Instead, he may get agitated or sulky when he's ignored by a friend, though he'll ultimately forgive them almost immediately whenever they do come around.

History: Navi was born, and given up to the creche, in High Reaches Weyr. His biological parents never made themselves known to him, but he was fostered out at three turns old to a rider couple. He grew up in the Weyr and still spent much of his time in the creche, as his parents were often busy during the day.
When he was eight, Navi happened to be around when a firelizard hatching was taking place. Given a bowl of meat by the flitt's owner, the clutch's baby queen surprised everyone (including him!) when she flew over and chose the child as her bonded. The motherly gold was accidentally dubbed 'Blessing' by his foster mother, who would remark what a blessing it was to have her around to help look after the young boy.
As a young child, Navi showed skill at playing instruments, and his parents were urged by the Weyr's Harper to let him go to the Harper Hall to study. Though they were sad to see him go, they felt it would be wrong to stand in the way of his craft education. However, things didn't go as well as they'd hoped. Though he could play the instruments well, he had a problem with nerves and hated to perform in front of people. He could never sing confidently and his self esteem plummeted as a result. He dreaded any time he was required to share what he composed. He began to wish he had never come to the Harper Hall at all, though he didn't want to admit that to his foster parents or old teachers, who had sent him here with such high hopes.
Fortunately, he was saved when one of the masters noticed him carving a toy dragon out of wood, an old hobby he had picked up from his father. The master offered to switch him to instrument crafting instead, and Navi readily agreed. He enjoyed the work a lot, finding it a deliberate, almost meditative, practice. But after thread returned, the quiet introspection of his workshop seemed to jar against the chaos of the outside world. It seemed odd, just making instruments while the world burned, but he supposed life must go on.
It was several months later when he received a letter at the hall, from a man he'd never met before. He knew nothing about his father prior to that, and never really minded the fact. It was only normal in a Weyr, after all. He offered to provide his transport back to the High Reaches, where he could stand as a candidate when he came of age. The talk of duty and doing the right thing spoke to the same feelings he'd been having of the insufficiency of his craft and that he wasn't doing enough. He wrote back immediately and agreed to the offer. He was looking forward to seeing his foster parents again too, eager to surprise them with his return. But when he made it back to the High Reaches, he found out they were gone. They had transferred Weyrs without telling him.
It's not like he could really blame them for moving on, since it had been several turns, but he would expected a letter, or some word, at least. More upset than he cared to admit, Navi pushed those thoughts aside and focused on his work. He continued to craft instruments, while at the same time working to reacclimate himself to the Weyr and prepare for the candidate training he knew he would begin in another turn.
