It was still raining. It kept raining, but after a while Melvin couldn't find any more reasons to not go outside. He didn't want to be in his room. He didn't want to be in the lounge. He was restless and pacing the hallways wouldn't fix the human desire to just be outside of the walls. Being that it was late, he didn't much feel like walking all the way to the labs, not bored enough to want to work which was a rare occasion, and instead took a small bottle of whiskey, grabbed an umbrella, put on a jacket, and headed up to the roof.
Nudging the door open, he looked out and was glad it was just a light rain at the moment and not a full downpour. The runic lights glowed on the little pools of water on the roof, and Melvin moved slowly to find a place to sit - until he noticed a figure in the dark.
"Hello?"

On top of the roof was a makeshift lounge-y type area that was more like a fort than anything else. Nash had managed to secure several umbrellas (through a combination of trading shifts, items, and a few idle kisses), which he had painstakingly taped together to make some sort of roof. He had draped a plastic sheet over the top of the whole thing - no doubt taken from someone's bed - and had set it all up between two parts of the roof that rose up higher than the rest.
Overall, it wasn't half bad. Nash himself sat beneath it on a tablecloth or a sheet or something, and was leaning with his back against one of the walls.
He looked up at the voice, eyebrows raised.
"Hey. Going fishing or something?"

He slowly approached the fort, and half expected Christmas lights and pillows too, but was still impressed by the ingenuity and amount of duck tape. Crouching a little to look inside and around to how Nash put everything together, he smiled. "Impressive fort."
"Just wanted some fresh air to help abate the cabin fever." He said, looking about and seeing they were the only ones up here.
"Why are you up here?"

Melvin received a thumbs up. "Thanks," said Nash, with a lazy grin. "Took a while to get all of it together, but it was worth it. I was gonna go ******** crazy if I had to sit inside for the rest of forever, but it's still raining cats and dogs so I had my brother rig up this little shindig and voila, here we are."
Nash patted the space next to him. "Bring anything good?"

"Your brother?" He asked, looking at the contraption and seeing the invite. Turning around, he avoided hitting his head as he sat down at the offered spot and tried to place his umbrella open and out by the door to give them a bit more protection from the rain. Letting t rest there, he showed the bottle of whiskey. "Private stash. Was about to go on leave and order more, but though that if I sat on the roof, might as well drink and enjoy the night."

"You may have seen him around," Nash said airily as Melvin made himself comfortable on the blanket. "Tall guy, dark hair, blue glasses? Generally looks like he's about to melt into the carpet at any moment, named after the shittier month of Halloween."
The bottle of whiskey was given an interested look from Nash. "Nice. Don't suppose you wanna share, do you?"
He leaned back against the wall, relaxed and at ease.
"It's Melvin, right?"

He stared at him, and slowly realization settled in. "You're October's Brother!" He blurted out, starring at him. "Yeah, I know him. We - " He paused. "...We started hanging out recently." Or more like they slept and took naps together while talking about any issues popping in their heads before exhaustion hit.
Settling back, he offered the bottle. "Just don't backwash or I'll have to beat you with an umbrella." And to this he was very serious.
"Yeah, Melvin. I work in the Runic department. Nice to meet you...." And then he stopped. "November, right?"

Nash raised a hand in salute.
"Ding ding ding," he said, brows raising. "The one and only, although I'm not actually positive of that either, our parents weren't exactly the monogamous type. Who knows, there could be another sibling out there named December or something."
A snort of laughter escaped, Nash giving Melvin an amused look. He knew the type of hanging out that October did but it was still kinda funny to see Melvin try and word it as though it wasn't just a bunch of cuddle times. Nash himself had barged in on his brother doing that exact same thing at home.
"Backwash is gross," said Nash succinctly and accepted the bottle to take a small swig. The alcohol burned pleasantly, though Nash couldn't hold back a wince as he passed it back to Melvin - not anything to do with the booze, however.
"I go by Nash, but close enough," he said. "So, what's on your mind, Mr. Runic Department?"

He took the bottle back, giving a inspection, before wiping the mouth and taking a drink. It was a challenge sometimes, when he used to be so concerned about sharing a bottle with anyone. Now he knew better - but baby steps like this, in offering a drink to someone and telling yourself things would be okay, was a daily experiment.
He took a sip, savoring it a moment before drinking. The burn was warm to him, comforting with the rain pouring outside of the fort, the sound like little drums on the tap and umbrellas around them.
"You don't like November? How do you get Nash from November?" He said, not sure where he made the jump.
Looking out, he shrugged. "Just random thoughts. The ones that you get when you are too tired to sleep. Replaying poor decisions. Wondering how many weeks it will take before Deus slowly sinks into the ocean. Wondering if Mermaids have a*****e Leads like we do and how paperwork works underwater. Wishing we had things like diners." He offered the bottle back.
"What's eating at you Mr. Shittier Month of Thanksgiving?"

Nash watched Melvin with a certain amount of mingled curiosity and amusement as he wiped the bottle. He remembered him from the dare night, and how unrelenting he'd been when it had come to giving dares to other people - namely that dark haired guy - but he seemed a little quieter now.
Maybe he was just nervous. Or maybe dares had been different. Nash made a face.
"Middle name," he said, by way of explanation. "November is too long and too mouthy, plus, come on, I have a brother named October. Our parents weren't exactly kosher."
His head tilted back against the wall, Nash drawing one knee up to rest against his chest, draping an arm across it. "Oh come on, you're at Deus, what sort of poor decisions are there to make? As for the sinking into the ocean, well..." Nash made a wavy hand gesture. "Okay, I can see that one. As for the mermaids, I hope they do, because that would be pretty badass, and I don't wish for a diner here so much as I wish there was a club or something."
He gave Melvin a dry look at Shittier Month of Thanksgiving, even if it did entertain him a little.
"Not much. I'm an easygoing guy, and being here is amusing as s**t."

"Give me credit. I've been known to make a lot of mistakes in just one night." He said, taking the bottle back from Nash to have another drink, wiping it before he took a sip.
"Your parents were eccentric, that's a given. You didn't like them much?" He asked, wondering why Nash prodded his parents or if it was just light commentary of their naming skills.
"A club would be nice...." He let the thought trail as he looked at the rain beading on the layer of tarp above. "Easier to meet people that's for sure."

"That sounds like an opener," Nash said, bracing one of his feet against the opposite wall, hands folded together in his lap. It wasn't exactly cold out, not yet, but it was cooler now that autumn was here, and there was a definite breeze accompanying the rain. He tugged his sweatshirt more securely around him, blessing the several layers he was wearing. "You don't mean dare night, do you?"
He let out a small laugh, Nash turning to look at Melvin. "Eccentric is a good word for it. Nah, they weren't bad people, and I didn't hate them." He gave a little shrug. "They had a very open marriage and a very open lifestyle in general, we always had people coming and going."
His mind supplied a dirty joke to accompany that, but Nash dismissed it. "Are you trying to meet people? Haven't you been here for ages?"

"Dare night wasn't as bad as truth night. We had a ring on the Island people were trapped on for a year there but like, not cause it was a dream not that I buy that for a moment, but it was only 3 days here. We used a truth ring and well, I dug in." He explained. "Dare night was tame in comparison." He informed him, knowing that emotional confession was harder than just stripping your clothes.
"Sounds chaotic to see so many strangers come in and know why they were there. October mentioned it a bit. You both seem well adjusted through." Well, he didn't know them both too well but nothing crazy shown in neon letters to him yet.
"There are a lot more new people here, and I've been a bit....closed off with a relationship ....one that went on for ages. Now I'm back to meeting people and single. Strangest feeling really. Didn't know how rough it was after years of being taken."

"Ahhhh, yes, the dreaded truth night," Nash intoned, reaching for the bottle and delicately swiping a sleeve over the top before taking a sip. "I got asked a few ridiculous things too, most of which I try not to remember, because if I do, I'm going to kick that little s**t's a**."
That little s**t meaning Dean. Nash wiped his sleeve over top the bottle again, holding it back out to Melvin. "If dares were tame, then I must've been doing something wrong."
He'd gotten a few delightful kisses out of it, though. And someone's lime green bra, which was still in his room. Nash tilted his head, shrugging. "I mean, it is what it is. People like what they like. My parents loved each other, but they just happen to be two people who like sex too, which I try not to think too hard about because that's gross."
He glanced over at Melvin, eyebrows raised. "Not a good relationship, I take it? And why is it rough?"

"So you know. I'd rather deal with a dare than a truth game." He said, not sure how much Nash saw him asking every question in the book to stranger and friend alike.
"My parents would have gossiped plenty if you were our neighbors." He said with a smile, thinking of a pair of neighbors who had people coming in and out all the time and were open with their marriage.
His brows raised in surprise when Nash wiped off the mouth of the bottle. "Thanks." He said. "It's...nothing against you. I'm sure you're spit is fine." He joked, and took another drink.
"Parts were good. It was bad in that it made me think it was a good relationship for a long time. Not now though." He took another drink. "Rusty I guess. Changed too. Used to be more easy going before the people I dated." He wiped the bottle and offered it back to him.
