Name: S'del -- Formerly Sahindel
Age: 20
Sex: Male
Sexual Orientation: Unsure
Weyr: High Reaches Weyr
Rider Rank: Wingrider
Previous Rank/Craft: Apprentice Healer
Physical Description: S'del is an average sized man. He stands about an even 6'0", with a trim frame. He's neither broad shouldered nor sleight, and his muscles are more wiry than bulky. He's considered good looking, and has a warm smile, and a genuine nature. His skin is an olive color that tans well in the summer, his short hair a dark brown that can lighten in the sun, and his eyes are a dark gold.

Personality: S'del has always been, and will likely always be, a good man. He's the sort of person that mother's want their children to grow up to become -- he's courteous, he's thoughtful, he's kind, and he's not the sort who is going to take advantage of a situation. Perhaps, because he is so good, he's also easily forgotten or over-looked. His superiors don't need to worry about him causing a problem, and his friends and peers don't need to worry about him being irresponsible.

Those who get to know S'del will find him a caring man. He's got a heart of gold, and one that hasn't yet been corrupted by the politics of High Reaches Weyr. He's naturally caring and tender-hearted; he worries about his friends, and treats those he is closest with like family. If someone is in need, S'del wouldn't hesitate to try to help. If chivalry is dead, than S'del missed the memo. He's the sort of man to open doors for others, give up his seat, or take the fall for another; if helping someone out puts him at a disadvantage, he'll do so without hesitation. Goodness just runs through his blood, second only, perhaps, to duty. There's a reason he hasn't left High Reaches, despite not caring for their line of politics; and that is duty. He is a High Reaches man through an through. He was Searched by the Weyr, he was a Candidate of the Weyr, and he Impressed Kindeth at the Weyr. Why would he abandon the place after they gave him so much? No, while he does not care for the bronze rider stereotypes, or the peculiar politics of the place,he also knows he owes them a great deal. He's dedicated his life to the Weyr, and to Pern, and will not easily forget it.

While S'del is certainly an upstanding man, he does have his flaws. He can be too indulgent with his friends, or with Kindeth. Some might even go so far as to call him an enabler. Their needs should be met, and so long as they're not trul harming themselves, why should he stop them? If someone is fussing and he can help them, or give them something, he will; this might mean others can take advantage of his good nature, but S'del has yet to object. Furthermore, he lacks the ambition some of his fellows might possess. He has no desire to rise up in the ranks, and is, perhaps, a bit fearful that he might be asked to take on more responsibility than he wishes. It's not that he doesn't think he can lead, but he much prefers to be a follower than a leader. He's the sort who would let himself lose just so someone else could win; not because he objects to winning, but because he'd rather put a smile on their face. Lastly, when push comes to shove, S'del can be stubborn. When he puts his foot down, he's firm, and will stand his ground; while he might allow himself to be pushed so far, once a line is crossed, or he makes up his mind, he won't budge. This can cause him problems with other riders; if he's decided to do something, then he will do it, come what may, and good luck trying to talk him out of it.

Positive Trait List Caring, Dutiful, Chivalrous
Negative Trait List Noncompetitive, Stubborn, Indulgent

History: S'del began life as an orphan in the busy Hold of Telgar. He was dropped off as a baby on the steps of one of the local Aunties, with no note, no direction, and no hint of his origins. The old auntie grumbled about having yet another mouth to feed, but into the local creche he went.

Life for the young Sahindel wasn't easy. He was passed over time and time again, as very few of his fellows were ever adopted in the large Hold, and the old Auntie wasn't exactly warm. She watched the children, but was either too strict, or too careless. Some days she came down hard on them all; and other days she seemed not to care or notice if they wandered off and never returned, or hurt themselves during their squabbles and games. This sort of lifestyle meant the children didn't really get to be children; instead, they were forced into an independence of caring for themselves, and maybe one another.

Like many of his fellow unwanted rugrats, he had no idea who his biological parents could be, but always dreamed they were something special, like a dragon rider, or Lord Holder, and that maybe, one day, they'd come back for him. This did not happen, and eventually, as the Turns passed, he gave up on such a dream. The older he became, the less he believed he'd find a way into a family, and instead, made one himself.

The group of children were often split into different groups among themselves, and Sahindel grew up being one of the more dependable and good-natured children. He'd comfort the young ones, stand up to the bullies, and tended to fuss over those that needed a little tender care. He did what he could to make the best of their situation; in fact, as he aged, it wasn't even a situation -- was just their life. Sometimes his friends would runaway or disappear; other times they'd be given away. He was often offered opportunities to leave the little orphanage, to disappear and become a street rat, but he felt he couldn't leave, no matter how he wished it. Some of the littles depended on him, either for comfort or friendship; and until the very last of them made their way, he wasn't going to leave them.

So he stayed.

Unfortunately, at Turn 10, a fire broke out in the creche in the middle of the night. Not everyone walked away from the old creche building, and Sahindel and his friends suddenly found themselves without a home. For a while it seemed as if they would be sent to another creche, but his small group decided they were old enough to make their own way. It was easy to get lost in such a large area like Telgar, and there were street rats enough that a few more wouldn't hurt.

Life wasn't easy on their own, but they made their way. They were desperate, and each did what they had to do to survive. Winters were, perhaps, the hardest, though it did give Sahindel an interest in his future craft. When his friends got ill, he'd be the first to fuss and attempt to cure and comfort. When they became deathly ill, he'd be the first to run to the first healers he found, and beg and bribe for their aid. If they'd come, he'd sit by their elbow and watch everything they did; he'd try hard to remember their instructions so he'd be best prepared for next time.

He was twelve Turns old when one of the local journeymen healers took him under his wing, albeit a bit unofficially. He couldn't convince Sahindel to part from his group of lostlings, but he would periodically show up and teach him (and any of the others that wanted to listen) some basic skills. The Journeyman, Merkhal, became one of them... sort of. He'd periodically leave marks, or supplies, and treated every one of them kindly -- even when they'd pickpocket him.

Life began to get better during Sahindel's teenage turns. His group made enough marks in their own ways to rent a tiny room and get off the streets. Sahindel got a more training under Merkhal, and they were better prepared to take in the most vulnerable of young ones. Sahindel dabbled in a few relationships, but generally tried his best to protect those who looked up to him. Their life wasn't easy, but he didn't grow bitter about his lot; he knew darn well they could be in far worse straits, but he definitely believed they'd all become something more.

For Sahindel, at Turn 17, life took quite the turn. He was Searched by High Reaches Weyr! He almost denied the request to return to the Weyr, knowing full well that there were others out there that needed his care, and the marks he made as Merkhal's apprentice. But the care he could provide if he Impressed a dragon.... He could make good marks transporting people or cargo, and could send that back to the group. No, for the first time in his life, Sahindel was convinced to do something for himself for a change, and with the good wishes of his fellows, returned to High Reaches Weyr.

He wrote the group when he could, and sent back letters checking up on them. Surprisingly, it was during his third Hatching that he Impressed the sweet bronze Kindeth -- and he all but forgot about his life back in Telgar Hold. Kindeth was the missing piece he'd never thought he'd find; the family his heart had ached for; the support he had never known he needed. To say that he was a changed man after Impression was true -- how he had survived such a lonely world without Kindeth at his side was something he wondered about as a weyrling -- and something he still wonders about today!

He was so besotted his letters back to his lostlings became a bit more scarce. Surely, though, they would understand. Weyrling training under V'mel's tutelage was brutal, and his free time was spent caring for and bonding with Kindeth. There were letters he'd wanted to write, letters he'd thought to send but didn't; gifts he kept forgetting to send via courier. Ah, but some of those letters and gifts remain tucked away in his trunk, as a reminder to never put off what could be done.

Only a few months into his training Thread returned. Worse, it fell first on Telgar Hold, and all but decimated it. Like the rest of the world, Sdel was shocked. He begged to be allowed to return home, but was denied; Kindeth and he were far too valuable to be lost. All weyrlings now became the life blood of Pern. By the time S'del managed to touch base with some of his old lostlings, he found out the truth -- almost all of his friends, his loves, and family back at Telgar died, including Merkhal.

As soon as S'del was able to go Between on his home, and given freedom to have his own weyr, he returned to the ruins of Telgar. It took some time, but he eventually managed to find a few of his friends and family. There were only a few left, and some refused to leave their home Hold. He brought those that were wiling back to the Weyr, where they could recuperate from wounds, or at least figure out where they wanted to go and what they wished to do with their life. Others, S'del is still looking for, hoping that they weren't the victims of Thread.

Life since then has turned S'del into a competent and steady wingrider. He fights Thread with the thought of those he lost heavy on his heart.

Other: He's fairly paternal for being so young. He'll visit the creche with Kindeth fairly regularly.

DRAGON
Name: Kindeth
Age: Almost 2
Color: Bronze
Size: 45'
Physical Description: Kindeth is a very large bronze. He has large wings, and is quite muscular. He's built to take a hit, and has stamina in droves. Unfortunately, he's not the most agile or lithe creature, and his takeoffs are always a bit awkward to watch.
Personality: Kindeth is a sweet bronze. He is loyal, he is loving, and like his rider, he is protective of those he holds dear. He's a good bronze, if not, perhaps, the most clever of the group. S'del is the brains, and Kindeth is the brawn. Like his rider, Kindeth is terribly paternal, and a very affectionate creature. He loves hatchlings, and has no objections to little crawling all over him. Kindeth is known to snuggle up to any dragon willing to tolerate him, and thinks every dragon he meets will soon be his best friend.
