It was unexpected to get a message from Ever saying he was going on leave and welcoming along. Usually he went on leave with a general shopping list and spent the day alone. Before, he would ask what Lawr wanted, needed, or even just felt like doing, and his earnings would go into sharing his company and indulging each other.
Company would at least be a chance of pace. Shooting a message back, he changed into his civilian clothes.Jeans, a black HeartF$#@ Aneurysm band t-shirt, sneakers, changing to his normal eyeglasses, and a hoodie, he grabbed his wallet and headed over to the room Ever stated was his own.
Arriving, he gave a short knock on the door.

No awkward standing in the hall, at least. Ever answered the door a breath later, with the strap of his bag between his teeth while he shrugged his way awkwardly into a hoodie. Ever's civilian clothes, frankly, weren't that much different from his work clothes, just minus the white coat. His jeans were still worn soft from many washes, torn through at the knees; his t-shirt had once had something on it but now it just had bits and pieces. Work and not-work weren't much different from him. He blinked at Melvin for a moment and then hooked the bag on his arm, instead, spitting it out. "I need one more second, I think, I was just about to shove into my shoes." Which meant Melvin was gestured inside, into a room that looked almost painfully impersonal. As much as Ever had personality of his own, this space could have belonged to any hunter, and could practically have been the default space. There was a bed, standard issue; a mattress, standard issue; plain sheets and a couple of pillows. The desk, plain wood, was covered with papers and a closed low-end laptop. A box in the corner sat empty except for a bottle of vodka, small and lonely. There were no posters on the wall. The only thing that gave it any character at all was the rack that sat in one corner, a memory of a time in the basement that seemed to follow Ever around. And, above it, a handful of postcards, pinned to the wall. He sat on the edge of the bed to shove feet into his shoes, movements hurried. "You came over quick."

Ever didn't look much different, and he stepped inside when he said he was still getting set. As he did, his eyes searched about and found the place dreadfully baren. A stark opposite to his visit to Al and Noah's room, which showed it too well lived in and messy, Ever's looks stranely like he just moved in and lacked any identity at all. It almost looked a little like his room, but that was because he didn't care to unpack, but at lesat he had a few items of furniture and a larger bed.
"Yeah....was about to head out for a walk, but I had been planning on leave soon." He said as his eyes continued to wander and stopped at the rack.
He was instantly jealous. It reminded him too much of a certain room Lawr owned. "You haven't just moved in, have you?" He noticed the one sad box in the corner, but it wasn't like Ever was packing all his things to leave else there would be packed boxes, not empty ones.
Was this all he had? Last he noticed was that Ever didn't have garnished wages else he wouldn't be going on leave in the first place - unless he wanted to bum around and go camping.
"Splurge all your wages on a bondage rack?"

Ever looked up as he laced up his boots -- eyes on Melvin, and then following his gaze around the room. The judgement didn't have much of an impact on Ever, but he grimaced all the same. There was, after all, a reason they were heading out, a point behind the shopping, and that was painfully obvious from just a quick glance around here. "Actually, that thing followed me up from the basement." He tied off his boots sharply and then grabbed his bag again, tossing it over his shoulder. "It was there when I moved in, and when I moved up to the first floor, someone put it in my room as a prank. Now I guess it's sentimental..." He paused to look around again, to make sure he wasn't forgetting anything. Fingers slid through his bag again, double checking for wallet. For personal belongings. "I guess I should get a shelf or something, so that it looks less...stark in here? I don't know."

"Sentimental only?" The dissapointment was poorley masked as he gave the rack one last look. "Guess that kinda stuff is just all in the basement." And might be free or up for sale. He would need additional items
"Yeah and a table....or a couch....or some pictures." His eyes slowly moved across the barren room to settle Ever. "Furnished an apartment and a house if you need ideas. Standard rooms are small but a lovesest probably could fit in here....maybe get a accent rug or a nightstand for your bed." A small bed.
"Do you kniw where you are shopping?" He asked as he headed out with Ever.

"Zeke made some noises about a better mattress, but other than that, I don't have a clue." It was hesitant, thinking. After just a breath, he fished around in the bag again for a notebook and a pen, to take that down. Loveseat. Rug. Nightstand. He could probably get a better lamp too. The idea made Ever grimace. "Pottery Barn? Crate and Barrel? That's where people go, isn't it? I have to admit, I've never actually bought a piece of furniture in my life..."

No kidding. The place said as much.
"Well, those are good places to go. I went to a large mall to get a few items before, so I'll take us there is that works for you? I think it also has an ikea and a Pier 1 as well. We can order things there. I have the address for large orders for Deus if we need that." He informed him, checking his phone to make sure he had that in his saved notes.
"If you don't want to spend a arm and a leg then the other places I went too wouldn't be worth it and require several portal stops." Lawr had liked imported items, so trips to Paris and London were places they went for certain articles of furniture. He still remembered the fainting couch and the bill on that one.
"I had planned to make a few orders later, but I guess while I'm already there I can get a few things." His apparently was more barren than before aside from a few articles of furniture but if he planned to move into a house, he would need more.
"I'd imagine Zeke would want a bigger mattress. Doing anything on a twin is miserable." He said, coming from the same experience. "You'll be able to figure out what kind of decor style you like too. Any pieces of furniture you loved before or had your eye on?"

It was a bit much; the pouring of options left Ever looking a bit like a deer in headlights, frozen with the pen pressed just lightly against the page. For a moment, he didn't answer. He just weighed it all: Pier 1 and Ikea and he'd had to research to even get Crate and Barrel and Pottery Barn. Slowly, he worked his mouth, put his tones away, and then pointed Melvin toward the door. "I need a mattress. And a rug, I guess, and a chair or a loveseat or what have you, and maybe a table that can go next to the bed with a lamp on it so I don't have to get up to turn it off." He cleared his throat. "I don't know anything beyond that."

"That works. A lot of the time you'll be walking in these stores and find other things you want or need. I'm happy to help." He moved to the door and followed Ever out.
"You never had a place of your own before the island?" He asked as they headed to the lighthouse.

"I had a place before they recruited me, but just for a bit; it was over a Chinese restaurant, and only like one room." Somehow, Ever didn't sound all that concerned or bothered by it, though; not ashamed, just frank. He shoved hands into his pockets and slowed his stride to pace Melvin easily, thinking about it. "I didn't really have enough money to buy anything, so I just had the futon it came with, you know. And before that it was mostly couch or bed hopping, depending on the guy...." He raised his eyebrows, attention flashing back onto Melvin. "I'm pretty clueless, so I appreciate the help."

"Well I was just as clueless before. I only ever had my own room at home and then moved into a dorm before I left college to come here. I never bought furniture before until we decided to upgrade our room and eventually build a house. I actually .....should rebuy everything." Since everything else was in a house he no longer lived in.
"Have you thought about eventually upgrading your room. You said Zeke complained about the bed. Upgrading is nice for company."

"I was gone for like nine months or something." Ever shrugged just a tiny bit, fingers curled around the strap of his bag. It wasn't a no, not exactly, but -- it didn't sound like the idea exactly appealed, either. "It wasn't something I ever really thought of. Anyway, isn't it expensive?"

"Yes, but you work up to it and save bit by bit. You can either live like you are a rookie for a while and pay in one go, or just plan for the future and chip in a little bit of your paycheck here and there." He said, not about to say it was cheap.
"The extra room is nice when you have someone to share it with, and at least you can have your own bathroom and kitchen."
The trek to the lighthouse was uneventful, Melvin opening an umbrella for both of them as they walked across the path to the lighthouse through the rain. "I hope the weather where we are going has sun." He said, shaking the umbrella out as they headed up the steps to the portals.
"I have to pick up a few groceries and alcohol too on this trip after if you don't mind." He informed Ever as he went up the steps.

"I need cigarettes and some cranberry juice anyway." He shrugged back at Melvin, careless of the rain. His hair was going to be a wreck, but that was hardly anything new. Ever's hair curled as it would, when it got this long. Left to his own devices, he probably would have chopped it all down to nearly nothing, just to spare himself the annoyance. As it was, he bound it back. "There's no rush. I have all my days for this month, still..." He paused on the threshold, and gestured for Melvin to go through first.

He stopped at the portal after passing off the request to the orperating tech. "Cranberry?" He asked, before stepping into the portal.
Due to high traffic volume and the necessity to get your shopping done in one place, there were just some malls that Deus put portals at. No doubt popularity and need helped or he at least thought so. On the other side they were behind a fence and a beside a brick wall, and on the other side a parking lot.
It was not raining but a brisk sunny day, and Melvin rose his hands up to the sky. "Thank you!" He said to the heavens, putting his umbrella next to the portal as he would not be needing it for today as there wasn't so much as a cloud in sight.
"The Mall is this way." He said, walking alongside the wall and past a dumpster before turning and out the alleyway to show they had been behind a closed Yogurt Shop that shared a long, massive stretch of parking lots alongside a equally long series of stores that accumulated into one massive mall. People walked in and out, looking for their cars while others tried to find parking, and somewhere in the distance a car alarm was going off.
"It's always nice to just - hear noises sometimes." He said, looking back at Ever and genuinely smiling, instantly perkier just being away from Deus.
"I wonder what movies are playing." He said idly as he headed down the parking lot and up to the double doors, pushing them open and holding them for Ever before following behind.
