Seren walked into the kitchen to begin dinner duties, relaxed and dressed down, unwilling to risk spillage on her usual clothing. She walked up to where the 'menu' was listed, and stared at it. "Same old crap as usual." She said, sounding annoyed. She had yet to figure out why this food was always so ridiculously bad. She knew it wasn't that hard to cook! Did they not believe in spices? She shook her head at it, and walked over to the big a** stove, one she privately admitted she was kind of fond of. It was very nice to have a lot of work space available to her.

She examined, made sure there was nothing horribly gross stuck on the burners, then moved to start gathering the supplies, mostly ignoring the recipe that was posted. She didn't need it to make something as simple as ******** pasta. It was PASTA. She did think it was a terrible plan, though, to make big batches of pasta. It'd get all dried out under the heat lamps, or else go soggy. Either way it would ruin it.

Not that, if it came to it, she wouldn't eat it. She wasn't about to pass up meals when she needed them, after all. Hunger was no joke. She was glad she didn't get hungry too much these days.

The sound of her voice got a jerk and a thud, followed by a low curse -- and then, just a breath later, Vash straightened from where he'd been poking around in a cabinet, a hand against the back of his head and his eyes narrowed in obvious annoyance. For this kind of duty, he'd also dressed down just a little, in a shirt that was worn thin and pants that were splattered with old paint, an apron tied loose around his waist. But his boots were still not kitchen appropriate, loud and angry, and his hair probably should have been contained under a hair net --

"What did you say to me?" It was possible that Vasily didn't even recognize her. And maybe that was for the best, considering their last interaction. He was still squinting, rubbing at the spot he'd apparently hit against a shelf, with a frown settled pointedly across his face.

She spun, eyes a bit too wide in her face at that moment, to stare at the angry looking young man. She blinked, slowly, then took a deep breath, calming herself. She'd startled him, that's all, he wasn't gonna attack her for that. She figured, anyways.

"Um. Nothing to you in particular?" She paused, recognizing him, and then gave a slight nod as her brain caught up with her. She didn't remember his name, but this was that one guy she'd failed to make laugh. As well. "I was talking to myself, really, about the stuff they want us to make for everyone. Basically SS/DD type thing." She gave a shrug, and offered him her hand. "Seren. I guess we have kitchen duty together tonight. You got any experience with this?" She used her other hand to gesture around.

...or maybe he did recognize her. Vash's eyes narrowed as he took in her face, raking a look over the entirely of her face, her choice of clothing, her shoes. Then his attention wandered around the kitchen instead, slowly. He didn't take her hand. He just folded arms in tighter around his body.

"Experience with what, exactly? Mixing up powdered potatoes? I think I can manage it." There was a pause before his attention snapped back onto her, somewhat challenging. "I can even do it without talking to myself."

She sighed at his response, and tucked her hand in a pocket, trying not to be annoyed. He'd been oh so friendly last time too. Then his comment about powdered potatoes caught up to her. "Well isn't this a ******** starch fest? Pasta and potatoes. Are we expected to go jogging after every meal, then, to stay fit with this kind of carbo loading?" She snorted in disbelief and sighed. "Is there any... no I'm not asking, the answer is probably no. Who the ******** plans these menus?"

She snorted again, and turned back to the things she'd gathered. "It's not like they want us to make quality meals, it seems. Well ********." Tonight she wasn't going to bother to try too hard to make nice with him. He clearly had a chip on his shoulder big enough to fill the room, and she had no desire to battle with it. She grabbed the large can of tomato paste she'd pulled out, glad it was not pre-herbed, and began to open it. His last comment, however, had her looking up at him, and arching an extremely unimpressed brow at him. "Good for you. Talking to yourself is, supposedly, the sign of an unstable mind. Me, I just assume you have to be unstable to sign up for this place and therefor don't care if people talk to themselves, so long as they're not indicating they're about to go all Stabby Stabby."

"All well and good if you don't have to stand next to them while they babble about whatever. At least have the good nature to do it inside your head." He tapped at his temple before turning to poke through the rets of what they had to cook for dinner. It seemed she was taking care of the meat sauce; he could get water boiling, could start looking into what kinds of vegetables they had to put into things.

"Unless not even your weapon will talk to you."

"So far, other then the initial comment that I made when unaware you were here, I've been talking to you, so what does it matter?" She popped a big a** pot on the stove, and began gathering some cubed tomatoes, garlic, onion, basil, pepper, some sugar, vinegar and some olive oil. She began chopping the garlic as she worked, comfortable with the knife she was using, eyes focused. "And Diwata talks to me plenty. She's a doll, if constantly hungry." She said, in a distracted tone, as if the food was possibly more important then grumpy little angry boys with attitude.

"C'n you maybe see if there's another pot of this size, and then brown some beef...? If you don't mind." She asked, her tone polite, if still distracted.

He was more than prepared to be annoyed at this as well -- at being bossed around -- until she tempered it with a polite request instead. Still, the frown lingered, and when he got the pot onto the stove top, he did it just a bit aggressively. It slammed, metal against metal, and the oven clicked furiously before the burner ignited. He wasn't quiet or subtle about any of it.

But, it seemed, Vasily did know how to brown meat. He dropped it into the pot and stirred it absently, periodically. He did a good job, just to show her, brushing hair out of his face and wishing he had a bandana to keep it back.

She smiled absently at him, glad that he was willing to assist with that. "Thank you." She said, quietly, and then began to chop the onion next. When it was all chopped, she poured half of all the ingredients she had gathered and chopped into the pot he wasn't using. She glanced at him, then said "Please let me know when the beef is ready, so I can add the rest of this to it?" She was still utterly polite, as she began to stir up the sauce.

She didn't even seem to think about it, she started to softly hum a tune from a song she loved, lost in thought as she was cooking. Her head bobbed along, clearly not at all aware she was doing it.

"You're bossy as ********, aren't you?" There were no smiles coming back at her. Vash narrowed his eyes a little, tipping his head to the side and considering her expression.

"How about you pick a thing and I pick a thing, instead of me serving as your little assistant?"

Her head came up and she gave the guy a narrow eyed look. "I ASKED, last I checked? Bossy would be 'DO THIS' no pleases or thank yous. I was trying to be efficient. But if you'd rather go do a 'thing', fine whatever." Her tone had gone from the calm one she'd had before to irritated at the twit. "Don't know what the ******** I ever did to you, but I'm TRYING to just ********' get dinner made so we can be done." She rolled her eyes at the angry little man, before looking in at his pot, and snorting, seeing the beef ready enough. She added the ingredients, then snagged the utensil he was using from him, now stirring both pots.

He tipped his head to look at her flatly -- and then Vash stepped away to take care of the pasta, without her giving directions every step along the way. He was still shaking his head, chewing on words for a bit before he answered.

"Asking can still be bossy, if you're asking in a way that says 'I'm the boss'." He flicked a look up toward her. "If you're asking in a way that seems to say I don't know what the hell I'm doing."

"I asked because I needed help... I only have two hands, and I was trying to get things done efficiently. I in no way meant to be bossy, or rude. I'm sorry if I was." Her shoulders drooped, as she gave up hope that she'd get along with this guy, despite trying, because apparently she wasn't good at it. "I'll just work on this then. I don't think of myself as anyone's boss."

Her head was lowered as she worked, no energy left to argue with this guy, unsure why she kept trying to make friends when she wasn't good at it.

"You're so full of s**t." It was extra disgusted, as he set to working on his own part. Boiling water. Salt and a dash of oil. It wasn't the way most teenagers would have done it -- there was a bit more thought to it, even if boiling water wasn't exactly rocket scientist. Vasily had definitely cooked for someone at some point.

"You definitely think you're better than other people. Maybe you just don't admit it to yourself, but it's clear as day." He stepped away to check what else was on the menu and maybe he stomped a bit.

"No... I really don't..." She said, her voice subdued, and without energy. "I'm all too aware I'm anything but." She didn't look up from the sauces, just working on them. "If anything, everyone here is far better then I am, anyone can see that." It was a bald statement, the only emotion in it was belief in the words she was saying. And it wasn't false belief, it was honest and raw.

She really needed to learn to stop reaching out to people. She just kept making them unhappy, and why wouldn't she? A curse, that's what she was.
