This was it. Today was the day. Nyrili had been a coward about this for way too long. Today they were going to suck it up and tell Ophelia how they felt. It was time, and they had the perfect chance. Ophelia had asked Nyrili to study together for an upcoming test, something Nyrili had always been good in. It would be perfect!
When school was over, Nyrili made their way to the table outside where Ophelia was waiting. "You can do this," the Naga murmured to themself. They could do this, and they would. "Hey, Ophelia," they said as they made themself comfortable at the table.

"Uuuugghhh," the Fey grumbled. She was never going to understand this crap. She was just so grateful that Nyrili had agreed to help her study. She probably would fail this class without them. When classes let out, Ophelia had made her way straight to the outdoor table she and Nyrili had agreed on and gotten started. But she hadn't gotten far.
Even though Nyrili's voice was soft, the Fey jumped at the sound of it. "Oh! Hey! Sorry, I was trying to get a head start. I um...I failed," she said with a soft laugh. "Thank you so much for agreeing to help me."

Nyrili blushed a little; they hadn't meant to scare her. "Sorry," they said and chuckled a little. "Oh, it's no problem, really, I'm uh... I'm glad you asked me to help you." Nyrili blushed. Gods, Ophelia was so pretty, especially in the sunlight... But that was not why they were here. Okay so it was part of why they were here, but Ophelia really needed help so Nyrili would help to the best of their abilities.
"So where are you having the most problems?" they asked, opening their book up to the latest chapter. For the next couple of hours, Nyrili tutored Ophelia.

She didn't know what it was, but when Nyrili explained this stuff Ophelia understood it. It was just like something clicked in her brain and everything after that just fit perfectly. "You are amazing. You should really think about being a teacher when you graduate or something," she said and laughed, sitting back a bit just as a nice breeze blew over the pair of them.
Ophelia looked over at Nyrili and wondered why she had never seen the Naga hanging out with anyone. They were really pretty, and Ophelia was sure they could have had their pick of Nightmares to date.

Nyrili laughed a little at the Fey's suggestion to become a teacher. "I'm sooo not cut out to be a teacher," they laughed and pushed a bit of hair behind their ear. Kids were mean, and rude. Nyrili wasn't sure they could handle being in front of kids like that all day every day. Well, maybe freshlings... Maybe.
They looked up when Ophelia sat back and blushed. She was so pretty... They were done studying, maybe she could work up the nerve now. "Hey, Ophelia, are... are you um, s-seeing anyone right now?" the words came out a little stilted and nervous.

"Me?" Ophelia squeaked and giggled. "No, no, I'm not seeing anyone," she said. "What about you? You're so pretty, you could have just about anyone you wanted!" she said. For the first time, the Fey felt something like jealousy at the thought of Nyrili dating someone else. She tried to shake it off though. That was silly, right? They were just friends, and study buddies.
Besides, they probably didn't want to have to deal with someone who has giant wings. Ophelia sighed a little to herself, completely missing the look on Nyrili's face and their reaction to the Fey's words.

Nyrili could feel their cheeks heat up at Ophelia's words. Pretty? They were pretty? More importantly, Ophelia thought they were pretty?? "O-oh, n-no, I'm too shy, I don't... I'm not... seeing anyone," they managed to squeak. Okay, now they should tell her about the valentine. It was perfect timing, right? "So... Do you remember that valentine you got during Hunter's Jubilee? From a... secret admirer?" Oh, how their heart was racing now. What if Ophelia was just saying that to be nice? What if she didn't like them that way? But it was too late to take it back now.

Ophelia frowned a little when her friend seemed to get so flustered. They knew they were pretty, right? When they asked about the secret admirer valentine she had gotten months before, the Fey frowned a little more. "Yeah, I remember, why?" She had spent months trying to figure out who had sent her that valentine, to no avail, and no one had come forward. She hadn't gotten any others after that, either. So after a few months she had given up. Either it was a joke or the Nightmare's feelings had changed, or they were too shy to come forward.
......Oh.

Nyrili took a deep breath before speaking. "It was me," they said all at once. "It was me. I wrote it." And cut it out in the shape of her wings with paper that matched. And added a heart shaped lollipop in a flavor the Naga knew she liked. "I, I wanted to say something before but um, I was nervous. And afraid to say anything. I didn't... I didn't want to find out you didn't like me like that but I can't hold it in any longer." They took a breath, staring at the table instead of looking at Ophelia.

Ophelia stared. This had been so far from what she had expected when she first started thinking about her secret admirer. Not once in a million years would she ever have thought it was Nyrili. But she didn't feel... surprised, either. Why shouldn't it have been Nyrili? "Yeah, okay," she said. Wait that didn't make sense. "I mean, yes. I like you. Like that." Wow, now she was getting nervous. "So, uh, we should go on an actual date, right?"
She grinned at the face Nyrili made at that, all surprised and adorable. But the Naga nodded and now all that was left was figuring out where they were going to go.
