Seren was heading out of the library, holding a book she was borrowing. It was another astronomy book, this time on what was known about the Galaxy of Andromeda. She was looking forwards to doing some light reading of it before bed, and it had put her in a wonderful mood. Good astronomy books were something she had never had much access to before, so they were taking up far more of her time then, say, any of the fantasy novels she used to read back at home. She moved to the door, and opened it, heading outside, the book tucked beneath her coat to make sure it would be safe if the rain started again.

Zane hated this raining bs that continued to plague the island. Going outside was generally frowned upon because chances of getting attacked were high and he didn't enjoy that possibility.
They dealt with dangerous crap all the time, he didn't need extra stuff that could have been avoidable.
Still, he needed to do something to occupy his time that didn't involve sleeping or training and he thought that maybe going to the library was a good start. Being wet however was unpleasant especially since the spotting on his glasses made visibility crap.
Maybe he should go get contacts but that meant that he needed to get an eye exam and...well that sounded like effort.
His hand had reached for the door to the library when someone pushed it at the same time and it made him stumble, wood slapping against his face and knocking his glasses off. "Son of a sugar biscuit," he cursed immediately dropping to the ground and feeling around pathetically for his frames.

Seren jumped back, startled, when she realized some one was there. However, when she processed what had happened, she moved forwards and found the unknown man's glasses. Once she had them, she said "I'm so sorry! I didn't realize you were there! I have your glasses... They seem fine, though they maybe could use wiping." She'd offer to do that for him, but it was weird, in her head, to do that. Instead she held them out to the other person, and offered her free hand to help him up. "Seriously, I am so sorry. Other then the glasses, are you ok?" She hadn't even processed his weirdly innocent swear word, as she was too busy trying to focus on helping the poor man.

Zane quit stumbling for his glasses when the girl held them out for him. Long fingers reached for them and once they were returned to their rightful place on his face he took a good look at her.
A lazy grin spread across his mouth when he rocked back onto the balls of his feet so he could stand.
"Thanks." There was some brushing off done and he straightened his coat. "Yeah, yeah. I'm good. Takes more than a door to take me out.

She smiled back at the man, and her hand dropped when he got himself up without her assistance. She was interested to note, when he stood, that he was one of the few people on this island that was neither taller nor shorter then her... That she'd met, anyways. They were, in fact, eye to eye in their heights. "Still, I'm seriously sorry about that. I feel bad for smacking you with the door." She pinked a little, and sighed. "I'm glad you're ok though." She considered, then offered him her hand again, for a shake. "I'm Seren, Seren Yong. I don't believe we've met before?" She looked the other over, taking in the details of the man, curiously. Red hair, slightly sharp chin, the lazy grin. "Here to get something to read?" She finally decided to finish with.

He took a moment to observe the girl, taking in her hair and her outfit before he met her eyes. If Zane was bothered by the fact that they were the same, if not nearly the same, height it didn't show.
"Happens," he shrugged, hands slipping beneath his coat and into front pockets of his pants. It proved to be a dumb idea because she was looking for a hand shake almost immediately after.
Reluctantly, his hand was pulled from his pocket and he shook hers. "Zane." He seemed content to leave it at that, but she offered her full name and therefore obligated him into giving his. "Walker. Zane Walker." Another once over was given.
"Nah, don't think so." Maybe they had, but if so he didn't remember. "Thinkin' bout it. Need something to distract with this," he waved his hand at the weather around them.

She found herself wondering what he was thinking, as he looked her over, because he didn't seem to have a lot of expression going on to give her a tell. It actually made her a little nervous, not being able to read the man. At least he seemed ok after the bang, and to forgive her, so she relaxed, just a tiny bit. But she was still, at this point, pretty tense. "A pleasure to meet you, Mr. Walker. It's always good to meet more of my fellow hunters. I'm... fairly new here, honestly, so there are a lot of people I don't know." She ran her fingers through her hair, half watching him, but unsure what's going on. "Yeah, a good book helps with that. What kind of things are you into reading?" She carefully opens the door again, and holds it for him.

Rocking from heel to the ball of his foot, Zane nodded. "Seems like everyone is pretty new here." He was new, technically, and while Seren was probably newer everyone else he'd met had called themselves 'new' too.
He had woken up from his pod alone, with the exception of the hunter who was babysitting his pod, and he wondered if this wave of fresh faces woke up like he did or in a group.
"Nice to meetcha," he replied, lazy grin sliding across his mouth. "Nah, don't read that much often. You got any recs?"aria starstone thanks for your patience <3

"I've met a few people who've been here awhile. My friend Joy, for instance. She was the person there when I woke up, and she seems to have been here for a few years. And my friend Rhys. They're both Intermediates, I think, at this point too?" She looked unsure, and said "Still working out how to read the coats, to figure it out." "You don't? Well um. If you're into Fantasy, I have LOTS of recommendations. If not, I'm probably not too familiar with it. But I mean, I can try. I always encourage people to give The Dresden Files a try, though. It's a damn fine series, set in Modern Chicago. Main Character is a Private Investigator AND wizard." She sounded pretty enthusiastic about the books. "Or um, there's always Tolkien. He's a classic, and a great read."

Zane could remember the fact that there'd been someone there when he'd woken but he hadn't seen the man in some time. Or...maybe he had and he just didn't recognize him. It was what it was as Zane didn't go out of his way to mingle or make friends.
"Sometimes you just keep a lowish profile," he offered with a shrug, not wanting to get into it too much because then he'd be over thinking and he didn't feel up to that.
"I'm up for whatever. Figure if it's not my thing I can always return it." Depending on things, Zane was far from picky. "You wanna show me where these books are?"

"I guess." She said, finding Zane a little strange in his apparent passivity. "For me, I'm actively out to find and make friends, so low profile isn't exactly in my agenda." She shrugged a bit, and then turned back into the library, wiping her feet automatically on the mat inside the doors. She sighed a little, a comfortable and happy sigh, because she loved the library. "All right, well they're over this way." She led Zane into the section where her favorite books were, her hand running along the bindings of books as they passed. It was probably very obvious the young woman loved books, and felt happy around them. Finally, she turned into an aisle and brushed a section in a caressing way, before leaning down and gesturing at a long row of books. "So this is the Dresden Files. As you can see, there's quite a number of them. It's a damn good series. I can also recommend Mercedes Lackey, if you're comfortable with books that have gay major characters... Sometimes main, sometimes not. Not all of them have them, either, but I love her for the fact that she DOES include plenty of lgbt." She considered, then pointed out the Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings trilogy. "Also, those are CLASSICS."

"Different strokes for different folks," Zane shrugged, chalking it up to it just being her thing and it not being his.
Still, as someone who mostly just went with the flow of things, he followed her indoors and let her lead him to her favorite sections. He had to admit it was kinda cute to watch her in her element and the hints of a grin kept the corners of his mouth quirked up.
He squinted over at the Tolkien pieces and shrugged. "Seemed like a lot of hype for something that's just a bunch of walking." Maybe that was a little harsh over some of her faves, but it was pretty clear that the classic fantasy novel wasn't his jam.
"Cool, well I guess maybe I'll try one of these." He reached for the first of the Dresden lineup.

"Yeah. I did enough of that back home, so... I'm good now." Seren also shrugged, and didn't argue. Whatever worked for him, she supposed. Seren looked at him, appalled. "Just a bunch of WALKING? What are you talking about? It's not just a bunch of walking! It's got traveling in it, but there's plot for days! There's battles, there's romance, there's drama! It's not 'just a bunch of walking.' If someone convinced you of that, you have missed out on a lot of good stuff." She shrugged again and added "But Dresden Files is definitely worth a read. Give it a go. I would love to see more people into Jim Butcher's work."

"Like I said, different strokes for different folks." There was more shoulder shrugging and a book was tucked under his armpit so that his hands could find his pockets.
He definitely zoned out when she went on about the series he'd already stated he didn't really find interesting, concept or in actuality. When he registered he finished he wrinkled his nose, trying to push his glasses back up it without pulling his hands out. "S'not my thing. "
Someone could talk them up all they wanted but at the end of the day, they just wouldn't be his thing and nothing was going to change that.
"Alright, I'll give this one a gander, thanks." His hand came free and he offered her a two fingered gesture from his temple to the air before he turned to check out the rest of the library.

Seren nodded, and shrugged, then decided not to sigh. He seemed alright, if distant. She didn't really know what to make of the man, in the end, and decided to be friendly-polite for the foreseeable future. When she realized he'd zoned out, her lips tightened a little for a moment, then she forced an easy smile onto her face. "Up to you. Your loss." She said, making sure her voice sounded amused and friendly-teasing, rather then anything else. She just hated it when people judged a book without giving it a chance... She always wondered if they did it to other people, too. That old saying existed for a reason, after all. "That's cool. I hope you enjoy it. I'm gonna head out... Wanna get a shower, and take a nap. I'll see you around, alright?"
