The first stretch of light was beginning to peak through the pine at the edge of the vast fields, with it a heavy moist sensation that stuck to the fur. Nightly fog still spread over the grass, the early morning light only marginally piercing through. Fall may have already begun but the cooling atmosphere over a still heated earth made a nice cover for any opportunistic hunter. The fog blanketed the tall blades of grass only adding to the cover. They appeared slowly, the shadows from the woods, venturing from their nightly roosts in the cover of the trees into the field, cautious steps the entire way out. Only one buck could be counted, the doe accompanied by their young and each other and feeling confident enough, began nibbling at the dew laden blades.

The wolf let his paws grip the soil, claws digging in just to enjoy the sensation. He wasn't above the moisture; it clung to his fur and begged to be shaken off, but this close to the herd he'd hold a sneeze even if it drove him mad. Any discomfort was being keenly ignored. His wet nose entrapped any scent he found, reveling in the information he gathered while he very cautiously peeked over the grass to investigate his prey. The fog shielded him, but it also hid the deer. He could make out a few individuals close to him, the buck the most obvious when it rose it's head, but luckily so far that was the only one he could spot. Even so he needed to get closer, he wanted to get as accurate information as he could before he selected his target and made a run for them. Ambush was his preferred hunting style. A lone wolf had little success in running prey down, but taking them by surprise? Well, that worked just fine for him.

-will insert puppy pic here-

The smell of deer caused her stomach to rumble. She was packless, moving from territory to territory begging for fold or scraping slivers of meat off bones left to dry in the sun. She wasn't an experienced huntress not having a pack to teach her. But that didn't matter to her. She was alive. And food was right in front of her.

She froze as her messy stalking caught the attention of the buck. He rose his toned head to glance around, but Noe's earthen fur kept her hidden from his gaze. When he went back to grazing, her tail wagged. She did it! She avoided detection! Except the closest doe caught the movement.

Pouncing to try to catch the doe before she got too far, Noe stumbled. It was just a miracle she was not trampled as the whole herd escaped. Sitting upright and rubbing her muzzle, a low whine escaped her.

Ravus paused in his slow stalk toward the deer, noting the buck had raised its head. Had he been detected? Nose sniffled and the large wolf licked it to moisten it further as to capture more scent molecules. Whether it increased his smelling abilities or not he would swear by it all the same. Nothing caught his attention yet in way of smell, the deer the only thing his mind rattled on over and over. He must have taken one step too quickly, that, or the buck was rightfully being cautious. Feeling it was safe to pursue, he took a few calculated steps forward, his paws hovering above the earth before setting down as still as he could make it.

And just like that it was over. In the blink of an eye the herd had caught sight of another predator and fled, leaving Ravus in the grass blinking in momentary confusion. He blamed himself all for a full second before the young she-wolf came into view, awkwardly lunging at a doe and failing miserably. Who taught this pup? Ravus would throttle them if he could find them, maybe even her his anger peaked enough. Staying hidden was of no use to him now that the herd was out of sight and scattered, so he marched right over to the smaller wolf, yellow fangs showing in clear agitation, but not yet rage. He loomed over her -while she wasn't a young pup, she still appeared to have yet to reach her first year- fur bristling and tail held high.

"What was that?!"
