Star Surfer had spent his life along the beach - it was where he was raised, after all. He knew the craggy edges of the cliffs, and how harsh it could be at times, but also how beautiful, and generous, when one knew where to look.

When he'd crossed paths with Sky Meets the Sea he'd been smitten, right then and there. He'd wooed her for days, bringing her all his best catches and finds until, one day, she'd led him to a small grotto he'd never been to before.

Then they found out she was pregnant. Star Surfer was elated, and terrified. He didn't know what being a father meant. His own father hadn't been in the picture, so he wanted to make sure he was there for his children.

Growing up on the beach was difficult, though -- trying, and dangerous, and not for the weak or faint of heart.

How could he ensure his children would be strong enough to carve out a life of their own here?

The sound of someone's arrival pulled Star Surfer from his tangled thoughts and he glanced up, surprised that he'd allowed himself to become so unaware of his surroundings.

The buck before him was... well, stunning. With his long mane, and the splash of red on his crisp white coat against the backdrop of the sparkling sea. But it was more than that -- he had a presence, and Star Surfer could not look away.

The comment, however, caught him off guard.

"..I... you did?" He couldn't imagine why. No doubt his confusion was clear in his tone, though the kiokote didn't seem put off, merely curious - and a bit distracted, though who could blame him with a family on the way?

As the words left the other's mouth, Star Surfer felt a wave of... something, some power, wash into him. It was subtle, but it put his troubled heart at ease, and he let out a breath he hadn't realized he'd been holding.

Suddenly, things felt like they were going to be okay.

"..Thank you." What more was there to say?

Star Surfer smiled faintly, and looked out across the water, at the waves rolling in across the beach, and the sun shining down on it all. It was, in the end, a beautiful scene after all.
