Seren stretched as she headed out the door of the gym, feeling a wonderful bun after her workout. She found herself really enjoying doing this. Sure, it hurt and was hard as hell to do but it was worth it, and she got such a high afterwards. She honestly felt like she was glowing, from how good it felt. She bounced on her feet some as she moved, just to keep the calf muscles stretched out, her coat on her right arm.

"Mmm lessee... Raining? Huh. Not at the moment. I am amazed. It's rare that I get a chance to walk back without being poured on. I don't even think I know what it feels like anymore!" She said aloud, not particularly worried if some one was around, or if they thought she was mad. It felt nice not to have to worry about the rain just this once. "Excellent!" She shut the door behind her, and lifted her face towards the sky, a happy look on her face.

Gabby was on the tail end of her run when she saw someone standing just by the gym entrance. With a bit of squinting she noted that the girl was chatting with...no one. It was still weird to see people talking to themselves, and she could never tell if it was because they were flat out crazy or communicating with their weapons. Still, curiosity got the better of her and thankfully her excuse for butting in to the "conversation" was that she usually stopped right where she started her runs.

"What's so excellent?" she asked as she came to a skidding stop, almost like sliding on to home plate. Minus the dive--the ground was all muddy and she wasn't about to do that kind of laundry any time soon. "The workout? The not-rainy weather? The air? Y'know, I know this place isn't, like, the cleanest or anything but I think it's pretty cool that there's no pollution and stuff. Runic whatever-it-is makes for clean and breathable. At least cleaner and more breathable than LA."

She was looking up at the other girl, breathing still heavy but a huge grin on her face. "It's kinda nice to know I won't start hacking my lungs out anytime soon 'cause of smog."

Seren looked down, startled by the sudden voice from the other woman. She stared at the stranger as she rattled through what sounded like whatever popped into her head, curiously. Another newbie, perhaps? Seren liked not being the newest anymore, and every newer newbie put her farther away from that. Still, it seemed like this lass could go on a mile a minute.

When she got a chance to break in, she said "Mmm I was referring to the fact that I can walk back from my work out without getting soaked, so I suppose the Not rainy weather, though my work out was quite good too." She blinked, processing the comment about LA. "Huh. You're from Cali? Me too, though farther north. Central Valley, sadly." She tossed her head back to get some stray hairs off her face and added "No more Central Valley Dust storms. Lords above is that a blessing."

Gabby was as good a listener as she was a talker, and the need to catch her breath also probably helped with keeping her quiet, so she nodded along while taking long, deep breaths. She heard Sen give a chuckle in the background and she couldn't keep the smirk from not showing up on her face. He was a nice guy, if a bit quiet. She liked to think that he was quiet enough for the both of them for the most part.

"Yep, I'm an Angelino! Nearly born and raised; moved there when I was just a little thing. Little-r than now, anyway." She giggled and started doing some cooldown stretches, really quick ones on her feet. "As for the rain, I dunno. I mean the drought was no joke so I kinda like it. I hear this place is supposed to have more tropical weather so when the rain goes it's probably gonna really, really suck."

"I mean, like, really, really suck." She was assuming the worst kind of humidity.

Seren laughed some at the other woman's words, nodding a bit. "Yeeeeah we saw the drought up in the Valley too, trust me. I just have been here enough to want a break. Constant rain gets as irritating as no rain, and I think faster." She eyed the skies, and then added "But yeah, some one told me it can get like that. I'm not looking forwards to that either. I wish we could get a nice balance between the two, ya know?"

She made a face, ughing about humidity. "Ehhhhh but that's a problem for another day. In the meantime, I intend to deal with the hand we're dealt. So what was LA like? I never got a chance to go down there."

Gabby kept right on with the stretching, her breathing pretty even now. "It can't be that bad," she said even if she had no idea how long the rain had been going. "I mean, if it isn't flooding then it probably isn't that bad. I visited the Philippines a couple of times and the humidity sucked, and then it rained and it was still hot and it was so gross. It rained for only a few hours, too, but it rained so hard and it was flooding like madness for hours after the rain stopped."

The girl made a face at the memory. "So this...okay, maybe it sucks but it could be a lot, lot worse. Like, a hundred percent humidity, worse."

She nodded as if her words were some piece of sagely advice, and then perked up at the question about LA. "I loved LA! Still do. I was a commuter and LA public transit really, really sucks, but I mean it worked and was affordable." Gabby rattled on for a little while longer before finally taking a breath (because Sen reminded her to). "Oh, what about you though? I've never been further up north than, like, the Santa Clarita area."

Seren watched the other girl stretching out, glad to see she knew what she was doing, and curiously asked "How many miles you run?" She was always interested in that when it came to others who were runners, if she didn't plan to run with them.

"Oh... I dunno. There hasn't been a clear day since I woke up and I've been up for over a month. Some of my friends say it's been going on since before that. I've begun to wonder that the island hasn't melted completely." She shrugged, then listened to the description of what it was like, her eyes wide. "Oh man, though, you got to TRAVEL out of the country. I am jealous. Until like a week before I got recruited, I never got to leave my home town. I lived at the top of Kern County, in Delano, or ******** Nowwhere, pardon my language." She made a face, thinking of her little town. "It wasn't nothin' exciting. I never worried about public transit, most of the places I needed to go were in easy walking distance of home."
PostPosted: Mon Sep 04, 2017 11:07 pm

"Crud, that's a long time. You mean, like, rain...all day, everyday?" she paused and looked up at the gray sky. "Today must be some kinda special day, then. I dunno, I just woke up so it hasn't really bothered me at all." The girl was about done with her stretches when the question came, and she sort of just gave a shrug. "Here? No idea. I just run around for a good hour, mix up the pace between jog and sprint. Back home I ran a good five or so miles regularly, almost everyday. Some days the timing just didn't work out, but my commute was exercise, too, so I let it slide."

"You heading back to the dorms?" Gabby then asked as she pointed back in the building's general direction. "If y'are then let's walk and talk. I hear a shower calling my name."

It was just a brief little segue before she jumped right back into what they were talking about. "Oh, yeah. That was on my aunt's dime--her family's totally loaded so she let us take free trips back home every few years. And then my sister got sick and that all stopped because of reasons or whatever." It obviously bothered her, but still she smiled. "Just learn not to expect, I guess. Anyway, I mean, at least now you're here! We're in...somewhere not in ******** Nowhere! Transit's easy 'cause portals and those portals take you all over the place! Or, y'know, so I've heard."

"Not all day, but definitely every day I've seen, and a lot of the day. It's been so ******** wet." She shook her head. "So not what I was used to, even before the drought started." She sighed and shrugged. "I just hope it holds off long enough I can get back to dorms, and shower. I hate having to go from cold a** rain to nice hot shower, cause it just feels wrong."

She thought about it. "Dunno how far I used to run, but I do a good run every day before I go to the gym here. Usually have a friend I run with but he's kinda laid up right now. And yeah, I'm heading for a shower for sure. I'm sweaty and gross, time to get clean."

"Hmmm I dunno if I had any rich relatives. I didn't get a lot of contact with most of my non immediate family." There was no point in mentioning that she hadn't had much contact with her immediate family, either, over the last 2 years before she got podded. "Well hey, at least you got some of it. And yeah, I know... But I haven't earned leave yet, so until I do, I don't count it. Once I do, though..." Her eyes lit up, and she got excited. "I wanna go to Seoul. And Tokyo. And... Many places! OOO Hawaii, I hear there's a place there with a really great observatory where you can see the stars..."

"Friend, huh?" Gabby said as she waggled her brows and nudge-nudged at the other girl. After a beat she laughed and waved off what was apparently a joke to her. "I'm kidding. No, but seriously, it's good to have a workout partner. I'm gonna get a rhythm going before asking around, or maybe asking you since that'll be easier and less awkward."

Not that she found herself in too many awkward situations.

"You should visit the Philippines," she suggested when the mention of places to visit while on leave came up. "It's one of those countries that's great to visit, especially the more tourist-y spots. We have some of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Google it sometime and see if you'd wanna add the place to your list if it tickles your fancy."

Seren blinked at Gabby's question, blinked in honest confusion for a moment, and then BLUSHED, because that wasn't something she had expected from some one she just met, and she was constantly confused inside on how she thought about Rhys, so hearing that was not at all something she had been ready for. "I... ah... What? No... Yeah workout partner. He's definitely the more experienced at it of the two of us, so he's helping me work out my routine... I um... Yeah." She floundered into the end of that sentence. It was a strange feeling, honestly, because normally if some one asked her about her attractions to some one else, she'd be upfront. Gods was this an unnerving moment.

"Really?" She sounded intrigued, her head tilted, and her eyes a little wide and curious. "Dunno if I'm much of a beach girl... Never been to one before, to be honest. I was hoping to go to the one here but... Well." She just gave the sky a long look. "Still! I'll look into it."
PostPosted: Tue Sep 05, 2017 10:43 pm

The flustered was weird, enough that even Sen couldn't help the quiet chuckle in the back of her mind, but Gabby was used to that reaction. Her sisters were awful at hiding details about complicated relational things with their respective friends or acquaintances or whoever it was, so when she saw it on this perfect stranger she gave a knowing smile.

"Mhmm, okay," the little girl said as she gave the "A-Okay" sign. "Got it. Workout partner. That's what I said."

"And you definitely should! It makes for great selfies or professional-esque photography. Promise!"

Seren didn't know what to make of Gabby, at this point. How did someone she barely knew fluster her SO badly, and then clearly read things off of her that she didn't want ANYONE to know, since she didn't understand them herself, yet? She smiled, a little weakly, however, and nodded. "He uh... Might be the right one to ask for info on work out stuff, though. I mean I definitely would try, I just don't know as much as he does. He's... really knowledgeable."

"Let's head in, yea? Before the sky changes it's mind." She added, trying to distract from the topic, and also pondering how to escape the other woman without being rude BEFORE they got to the showers... She always tried to use them when no one else was around.

"I'll keep it in mind, promise! I'm not much of a photographer, didn't really get to handle cameras much until I came here, so..." She shrugged.

Gabby nodded, her hair bobbing along with the gesture. "Good idea." She was more than happy to go along with a different topic. Whatever made talking easier was always the goal, provided that talking had nothing to do with her at all. She started walking along, but paused to make sure that the other girl was walking with her before starting again.

"Oh, I'm Gabby by the way. Woke up just a couple of days ago. Sorry. My mouth gets ahead of me a lot of the time." She extended a hand at her new acquaintance and very much potential friend.

Seren nodded and sighed as she stretched her back some, walking with the other girl calmly enough. She had to remember to shorten her steps, given she was the taller of the two, by a fair amount. She found herself wondering if people taller then her had to do this with her. "Yeah, it's worth a go. The gym's kinda skeevy, I'll be honest... Mats seem like they're gross as ********, that kind of thing, but... It's a gym, it's what we got, so I'll make do, ya know?"

Keeping off the personal topics was like heaven in her mind, right now.

"Oh, yeah. Nice to meet you, Gabby. I'm Seren." She looked at Gabby, curiously. "Didja get lucky like me and get a first floor room, or are you in the dark horrorland?"
