The rain and the water golems weren't a deterrent to Jordan's exercise and training. He didn't mind getting wet, and he didn't mind a little extra fighting; it was all training, as far as he was concerned. He wound up his run at the training fields. He was already thoroughly soaked, but that wasn't much of a concern; it wasn't particularly cold, and he would change once he went inside.
He started a series of stretches; afterward, he would either perform his strength exercises with Ferros or find someone to spar, if anyone happened to be around. Less people were, in this weather.

Fred had been spending a lot of time on the fields of late, wearing his most expendable second hand clothes and itching for a fight. This newfound strength was amazing and what good was it if he didn't test it out, learn it and develop it.
The rain didn't matter, but it meant less people were there, so anytime someone DID show up, he approached them eagerly.
"Hey!" he said brightly. "Name's Fred."

"Hey," Jordan answered amiably, and put his hand out for a handshake. "I'm Jordan." He gave Fred a short, considering look. "You look familiar, but I'm pretty sure we haven't met yet."

"Maybe you've met my brother." he said. "He's called Tom, he's running around after some jerk in a suit most of the time."
The other man did get a thoughtful look though, Fred paid more attention than it seemed. "You are in Sun division right? You offered to spar me."

Jordan put that information together with what he'd gleaned from Twitter, and nodded. This was Roswell's brother, then. "That would explain it," he said. He didn't know Ros particularly well, but spending nearly a year on a desert island with a small group of people gave you at least a passing familiarity with the others.
"Right. You said you're also in Sun, recently hatched?" Jordan asked. "How are you getting along with your weapon?"

"Yeah, we used to be indistinguishable, you wouldn't know me from Tom at a glance. All different now though, off on our own. I'm glad to see him again though."
"The weapon? He's a weird one." he said. "Or rather it is, I don't know what gender it is, its voice changes almost every time it speaks. We get along well enough though, his advice hasn't failed me yet. I just let him lead when it comes to fighting."

"It's good to know your family's okay," Jordan said with a sober nod. "My brother's here, too."
"That's a good way to go about it. The weapons know how they want to be wielded, and if your relationship with them is decent you work together better in combat. Want to summon them? I'd like to see what you're working with." Jordan sounded approving.

"Guess they don't ******** care too much about recruiting whole families." he said with a smirk, the lack of ethics this place displayed was always a little bit surprising. "Least means you've got backup I guess."
"Sure." he said. "His name's Myxie." And reaching out to one side he summoned the very long blade to hand. "He's kind of stupidly long. I'll admit I'm not sure how I'm ever meant to learn to wield it properly."

"There's a genetic component to Fear sensitivity. Runs in families," Jordan explained. "Pretty sure it was Dad's side of the family in my case."
"Hello, Myxie," he said to the blade, giving it an appraising, thoughtful look. "He's not a heavy weapon, but his length means you'll have some of the problems we have with maneuverability and utility. Tight spaces are a b***h, for one. On the upside, you'll have a good bit of reach on most people and creatures. And he's almost all blade, so I think I'd recommend trying for sliding, sidewise motions to take advantage of that long edge surface. Is he sharp on both sides or just one?"

"Running in families eh? Well the only person I know from my blood family is my brother, everything else is a mystery, and here we are, so I guess it's anyone's guess what side of my family it came from. Adopted and s**t."
"And err, just one side I think." he said. "Pretty ******** different than most things I've ever used. I mean I'm good with a knife but this is anything but a knife, it's like the difference between being used to having a dog and having to deal with a pet elephant ******** suddenly, kind of overwhelming."
Even the idea of trying to get a slice in on someone made his head hurt, used to quick chibbing motions rather than long difficult manuevers.

"I just hope my cousins aren't sensitive," Jordan said grimly. "But they never showed any signs, so I can hope. Good that you can watch your brother's back, though," he said, his expression softening a little. "Family's important." He nodded. "I understand having to deal with something way the ******** out of your experience," he said, and took a step back, stretching his hand out and summoning Ferros. The huge hammer materialized in a swirl of metallic motes, held in Jordan's hand as though the immense weight was nothing. "It took us some time to figure out how to fight effectively." A quick nod. "Come at us; we'll defend." HP: 60/60 Defending for: 8 Charge: 0/3

Jordan's weapon got a stunned look as it appeared, enough for Fred to hesitate incredulously.
"Holy s**t." he said. "That thing looks like it weighs a ******** ton What the ******** least when he swung it was easy to strike it, his blade clanging against the metal. Of course he didn't even make a dent, not in the weapon nor Jordan's shield.
"How the ******** does anyone even hurt you?"

Jordan grinned. The reactions to Ferros never got old, and he allowed himself a moment of pride in his weapon. "He does, but the weapon bond lets me carry him. Heavy-class weapon translates to stupidly huge, as a general rule." He angled Ferros so that Fred's strike slid along Ferros's vents without much contact, the momentary slide of metal on metal making no dent in their shield. "Speed, reach, agility, or pure strength," he answered. "We're not slow, but we're not as fast as smaller weapons, either. We're most effective at a certain distance, and anyone who can get inside that distance or reach me from outside it can gain an advantage. And there are some big ******** things out there that can easily match and outclass us. Every creature and every weapon has a weakness." He took a solid stance, holding Ferros horizontally in front of him. "If we weren't focusing on defense, you'd be chipping away at our shield just by hitting Ferros, too," he explained. "Weapons naturally pull Fear from any contact with another Fear shield. You should be able to feel it through Myxie, if you pay attention. Have you gotten a charge in a spar yet?" HP: 60/60 Defending for: 2 Charge: 1/3

Fred didn't like the idea of having to deal with a heavy class weapon or anything like one, it looked ungainly and hard to miss, not things he enjoyed much. He preferred small and condensed weapons, tiny and nimble.
He barely scratched the other weapon and even the follow up was the same. He didn't know how anyone could ******** reasonably fight that thing, Jordan's ability to wield it felt barely human.
"Any time I get a charge I ******** it up. It always just hurts me for whatever reason. I don't know if I'm doing it wrong or what."

"Some charges seem to have a backlash to them." Jordan pushed lightly at Myxie's blade with Ferros's side, blocking easily. "We don't know what causes that, but its accuracy on the opponent seems to get better over time, as far as we've seen. If you want to try it on us, we can handle it," he offered. HP: 60/60 Defending for: 9 Charge: 2/3 Baneful why can't I roll like this in combat threads
