In the kitchen, Seren had her phone out and was hunting down the ingredients she needed for the Chapssal donuts she was trying to learn to make right. She hoped Kim would be there soon, she had enjoyed the other girl's company the other day, and was glad to get a chance to make the donuts she had promised Rhys, have a willing taster so Rhys would get the BEST ones she could manage, and also get to talk to Kim again.
She paused, and found herself frowning a little over the fact that she was thinking about Rhys so much. Yeah, he was her closest friend but this was weird. She sighed, and shook her head. Whatever, she just was worried about him, after he got so badly ******** up.

Kim was skipping down the hall humming to herself, headphones playing something peppy as she made her way to her new friend's room. She usually didn't go see others. It had been a bit of a seclusion time for her but now she was ready to be all social again. Seren had brought her out of her literal prison somewhat and she was excited to see her again. She had forgot how nice it was to talk to someone that wasn't living in her head. She made her way down the hall and paused. She had so forgotten the room number. She pulled her phone out and scrolled down looking to see if Seren had told her. Dang she needed to actually put some contacts in there. It looked like the phone was just handed out, and other than her photo journal of her fun times with killer monsters, there was little in it. She muttered and walked down the hall, looking around a bit lost. "Uh.. Seren if you are in a room near here please hear me... I am sooo lost." She rubbed her head. "And such an Idiot.." Quote: Text: Seren super lost am I supposed to be at your room.. or did I take a wrong turn at the corner of.. I suck and I will die in a pit of utter despair?

Seren heard her phone buzz as she was getting a frying pan from a cupboard, and accidentally bumped her head as she tried to remove it from the cabinet. "OW OW OW" She rubbed her head, as she walked to the phone, to see what was up. She stared at the message from Kim, her eyes puzzled for a minute, then realized Kim hadn't figured out that Seren couldn't make 'em in her room. She couldn't help it, she laughed for a minute, before replying. Quote: Text: GOOF. I'm in the kitchen of course! How am I gonna cook donuts in a trainee room?

Kim stood where she was a moment before looking down at her phone. The message was so... obvious. How dumb was she? Kim laughed a little and put the phone in her pocket before racing down the hall and to the kitchen area. She was too used to fast food. As far as she was used to. All food came pre-packaged..
"I am a doofus.." She laughed as she came into the kitchen. "Really other than beating meat with Joy I have no cooking knowledge." She didn't realize how ... wrong that sounded when she said it. Beating meat was not a cooking term.
She bounced over. "Sooo you are making donuts.. They don't just pop up already made in little plastic carriers."

Seren laughed at the first part, then stared, a little baffled at Kim's questiion. "Um... what do you mean... beating meat, Kim? That... isn't a term one usually uses in reference to cooking..." Her tone was a little high pitched as she was trying NOT to picture the very strange mental image that came with that phrase. Very strange.
She blinked a little, then added "Ahaha no most food has to actually be made before it gets put in a carrier, goofus. Have a seat while I work. How are you today, though?"

Beating meat wasn't a cooking term.. "Oh Joy called it Tenderizing or something. I just beat the s**t out of the meat and seasoned it." She grinned and pulled up a chair sitting down and watching. "Heh, used to food just being there, go to a cheap store, get something that looks like it died a few years ago and... dinner."
There was that or trash dive, but she wasn't ready to admit to that bit. Not a part of her past she was proud of.
"Ah, doing much better today thanks. Crying seemed to have helped some of my tension actually." She turned the chair she was on around so she could lean on the back of it, and watch better. "So... how does one make donuts appear out of thin air?"
Since she was hear she may as well learn something.

"OH TENDERIZING ok. Yes. That, that is a term I know. That is a good cooking term. It is not a term that implies male masturbation, which beating meat usually does." She said it without blushing, because frankly sexual things didn't usually bother her, and she'd tell people things up front. Sometimes she did it to shock them, because that was fun. "And ughhhhhhhhh cheap stores. They have such horrible food, but when it's what you can afford."
"I'm glad it helped." She gave the smaller girl a warm smile, and began to sort through ingredients. "And um. Well it takes time. I'll straight up tell you I haven't made them before, which is why I need a taste tester. I want them to be done right, after all." She paused, then added "These might be a little different from what you're used to. They have a sweet Red Bean paste filling. They're Korean." She pulled out the ingredients needed, and showed them to Kim, then began mixing and following the instructions from the recipe she had found.

Kim listened and then burst out laughing. "s**t.. yeah betting one's meat.. Oh I didn't even think of that." She laughed so hard she nearly fell off her chair. "No wonder Joy looked shocked when I said I would beat the meat." Kim kept laughing and finally did hit the floor, tears streaming from her eyes. "Poor Joy.."
When she finally composed herself and climbed back on the chair wiping her eyes she gasped a bit. "Dang.. poor girl."
She then looked at the ingredients. "Oh that sounds nice. I never had any like that, it will be a treat." She thought back to the day or week olds she had before. Anything would be better, but she was being spoiled by the regular meals and had at least stopped hoarding the snacks Allan gave them before missions.
Mostly.
She still had a little wall of ramune and pocky. Emergency rations.
"So bean paste in fried dough. Sounds good. If they come within any distance of those cookies they will be amazing."

Seren looked amused and also sympathetic. "Oh gods, Joy must have been appalled and yet it must have been quite the expression. Poor Joy." She shook her head, amused, as she started mixing the ingredients necessary for the dough, her eyes focused on her work.
"I never did either. Could smell them, sometimes, when Father made them for Dai, but never got to have any." She said, sounding absent, like she didn't even realize what she had just said, and thus exposed to the other woman. "So I want to get them done right."
"I hope they do..." She really did, cooking gifts was all she could do for Rhys right now.

Kim parted her lips slightly to comment on what she had just heard, but then shook her head. She was not ready to bring something like that up with Seren. Likely she didn't realize she had said anything. What messed up parents not sharing with her. Not that she knew what parents are like. "Dai?" She murmured softly. "You have a sibling?" Such luck to have someone out there.
She then went a bit quiet before smiling and rocking back on the chair. "I am sure hey will like anything you make. Like I said, I am likely to get fat sampling your food, and I will love every minute of it." She grinned brightly. Soon she was on her feet again poking around, and looking into various things. She couldn't sit still.
She rose to her toes to look in the shelves at all the cooking tools and she pulled down a few bowls to look in them. "Wow, so many.. it is like they can make ... wait I guess they can make a feast in here. There are a lot of us huh."
She put the bowl down and moved near to watch Seren again, starting to copy her. Why not try to make some for Terry too?

Seren went blank at Kim's question, as she reviewed what she had said when distracted, then blanched as she realized she might have just given her new friend more information then she wanted to ever admit to. She paused, trying to figure out how to handle it, then finally said "Yeah... Dewydd, or Dai. Little brother, five years younger then me. Hope life is treating him well. Hadn't seen him, really, in 2 years before I got recruited."
She soon had the dough all made, and got out the package of premade red bean paste she'd found. She would make it herself in the future, but today, she didn't want to spend the hour or so that would take. "I hope so. I just want them RIGHT. The final batch, though, after I'm sure they're right, is reserved. Gonna bring 'em to Rhys, in the infirmary."
She looked over at Kim, curiously, then said "I don't mind you copying me, indeed go for it, just... let me handle the frying, ok? Frying is NOT for newbies. You'll get burned, and trust me, Oil Burns are the ******** worst."

Kim nodded her head as she listened and copied nearly finished her dough at the point Seren finished her own. She then nodded slowly. "Dewydd, neat name. Sounds musical." She then looked right at the other girl. 'Seren you know you can tell me what you want. I wont tell anyone. I may be irrisposible and a menace to all living things, but I am not a gossip." She smirked. "Heck, I like you, I mean, I can see us as real tight friends. I don't say that lightly. I don't have any close friends here at all."
She waved one hand. "Joy.. don't see much. Ace, vanished into the walls I think... Kai. I think he thinks I was using him. And... well Terry, that is it." She chuckled. "It's not for lack of trying, just lack of bonding."
She then finished her dough and nodded. "I shall leave that to you, I will not set fire to the kitchen. It is bad enough water hates me, lets not tempt another element."

"He goes by Dai mostly. We both have Welsh first names. Mine means Star." She sighed, softly, her back tensing at some of the connections, and then winced a little in pain for a second. "Ah... I appreciate it, Kim. And maybe someday?" She looked uncomfortable. "I don't... really like talking about home much, though." She gave her a small smile. "Nothing personal, just... I don't, really don't... like to think about it."
Her eyes went sad at that. "Well we'll have to work on that. I definitely would love to be your friend. Joy I suspect is just busy. I... think I met Ace. Tall skinny dude, right? And Kai's a sweety, I bet he doesn't. He does tattoos, ya know that?"
"Excellent. Oil fires are also a disaster we do not want."

Kim waved one hand as if clearing the air. "No not a thing Seren. Star is a good name with how you dress." She grinned. "My name means ... well my middle name means God have mercy.. which I think was a prayer everyone said when faced with me."
Kim sighed weakly. "I once thought I had a crush on Ace. It may have been that he was the first person to treat me nice here... then.. poof he vanished." She shook her head. "Kai.. I took him on a mission with me. Someday I will tell you about it."
She smirked. "I kind of have a weird habit of taking Danger selfies.. Me with a giant scorpion trying to kill me, Me with a giant Centipede trying to kill me... " She laughed. "So yeah, maybe that is why friends are hard to come by. No one wants a friend who may get themselves killed."
Kim looked at the stove. "Nah any fire would suck. Like I said, water hates me. .. Literally hates me."

"It sort of is what got me dressing this way. I love the stars. I wanted to be an astronomer, or better, an Astrophysicist, when I grew up. I hope to eventually get a back piece of a starscape." She smiled wistfully, as she began to roll out the dough, getting it thin and flat. "But that's for the future, once I can like... access my money, and Kai gets his tattoo shop up and running."
"Ahah I can see why. Ace is tall, and rather pretty. I just took a ridiculous selfy with him, for Dares." She shrugged and said "Maybe he's been busy, I don't know. I've noticed people seem to come and go at will in this place, so you never know."
Her brows rose about the danger selfies. "Well I mean. We ARE Sun division, we're going to be on the front line. People have to learn to accept that means that we're at risk, if they want to be close to us." Her eyes went a little sad, wondering how much it would actually have an effect on anyone if she died, then shrugged. "It's why Sun exists, yeah?"
She glanced at Kim, and nodded. "So I'll do the frying. Right."
