With his new rank had come new responsibilities and while extra work was a bit hard to balance with working full time it was interesting. No one bothered him in the Rift and since he'd taken an interested in the Youma already the General Sovereigns were happy with him doing more research. Since they were using the creatures it was good to know as much about them as they could.

This trip was to take some extra notes and work on seeing how some of the weaker youma reacted to being fed star seeds. Since he needed to be able to take notes he'd recited another officer to go with him.

It was good to not be a peon.

He had a small collection of star seeds, and some energy orbs, now he just needed his helper and they could set off.

Larimar had accepted their current place in life with only a little bit of petulant murmuring - they would be condemned to grunt work for the minute, but that was inevitable; that was how joining anything new went. And if it was to be grunt work, there were worse things to be used for than research.

They'd only met a few youma, really, preferring to stand back and let the creatures go after civilians as they pleased. So studying them further? That was an idea they would have volunteered for anyways.

"Captain," they greeted Uvaroite as they came into view, a respectful dip of the head taking the place of a bow or a wave.

"Ah, there you are." Uvarovite smirked as the lieutenant finally appeared. Currently the captain couldn't be all that picky about who volunteered for his studies, or who he could just commanded, but this one at least looked like they'd be useful. He finished counting the energy orbs in the small pouch he rummaging in before holding it out to the lieutenant. "You'll need these. Have you gone exploring in the Rift before?"

Most didn't enjoy it and while finding someone who had would be useful Uvarovite wasn't expecting it. He would take it though as long as they didn't end up jumping at every strange noise.

"I haven't been to the Rift, no," Larimar commented, even-voiced, "mostly because my General has yet to offer a guided visit, and I don't exactly have ways to make it here without aid." The eye roll was implied, if not actually physically carried out; they weren't about to show any visual annoyance around a superior officer that wasn't Ashanite, at least.

"It is not impossible to go out into the Rift on one's own." He had done it often enough himself despite the danger. It had proved to be a good learning experience all in all even if it had earned him a few injuries here and there. "You just have to know how to deal with the youma."

Uvarovite smirked, dropping some energy orbs into Larimar's hand before heading up into the castle so they could make their way out into the Rift. "The youma like treats and like those who have power. That is what they recognize over anything else."

Larimar said nothing to the first part; let Uvaroite think what he might, but they were no daredevil, they had no interest in being injured in pursuit of something dangerous and maybe even impossible. Let others take the fall for things such as that. They'd just pick up the profit from the fallen later.

The orbs they slipped into their pockets, following the Captain, and if they grumbled "pity for me, then," it was quiet enough it was hard to tell.

Uvarovite smirked, hearing the muttering but not exactly the words. "If you're worried don't. The youma in this part of the Rift are familiar with me and my Pet will also keep any that would be a danger in check. Now, you were assigned to help me. Do you even know anything about the creatures?"

He doubted it. Most seemed to dismiss the youma outside of their personal ones.

Yes sir, no sir, three bags full, sir. They interpreted his words as patronizing, but that was nothing new; that was how Larimar interpreted most talk, well-meaning or not, and they lived with it. "Not much, no; my General isn't interested in the details of them, and I doubt my capability to contain one. It'd be a fool's errand to experiment on them by myself."

"Good thing you are not alone then, hm?" Uvarovite managed not to roll his eyes at the lieutenants lack of enthusiasm. He was disappointed that their General was lacking in their interest in the Youma but that did seem to be a common occurrence in the Negaverse.

"Give the right treats, feed them and take care of them, and they will do what you want. You shouldn't doubt yourself. Even the weakest have potential." Even if that potential was just as fodder to create stronger youma.

"It's not so much that I doubt myself, Captain," Larimar said delicately, "but I would much rather be safe than sorry, and even the possibility of slight maiming tends to turn people away from experimenting." Unless you have a human shield. That helps. Their faux-scowl laid flat on their face, as ever.

"Oh? Do tell."

"If you believe you are too 'weak' to do something then the best course is to become something else. There are plenty of stories in history of the small or weak taking on giants and winning."

Uvarovite dug around in his pocket for a moment before pulling a softly glowing star seed. He held it out to Larimar with a slight smirk. "Or there's always just being smarter. Have you ever eaten one of these? They're useful as far more than just treats for the Youma."

Even if that was what he usually used the crystals for.

Larimar let that other comment unanswered, for now; they had enough on their plate as it was, just making their way through everyday life. They didn't need to go around telling everyone about their familial and emotional issues. It would be rude.

"Of course." They took the starseed from him with tender fingers, pocketing it in their sash. "I try not to keep them in reserve unless immediately needed; it'd be a shame if they were to get crushed and wasted."

"They're quite useful for a power boost, in both the short and long run." Depending on what Larimar had heard they might know what would happen if one ate too many star seeds. But ....

there was also the chance that they might not know what would happen.

"I always have a few. They're a bit stronger than most give them credit for. Stronger than the standard orbs at least." So far as he had found. Uvarovite still had to keep fewer around than he'd like but he'd gotten a bit of a talking to the last time he'd collected a handful in a short time from his general.

"Less of a body count if you only take them as needed, though," Larimar commented. "Not that our public image needs work, but killing off the citizens too fast would be inconvenient." They didn't know any ill-effects of eating starseeds but, they reasoned, with a high like that overdosing might well be fatal or something equally terrible. "But then again, I don't need them often, so I can't speak for everyone."

"The Negaverse could do with being less concerned with the body count. Never know when one of those bodies might be a senshi who's yet to be found by one of those nuance cats and those are the best starseeds to find."

He did get givena few extras just for his experiments but he could do so much more if he could only get his hands on more seeds. The energy orbs didn't quite do the same work.

"They do give one arather nice energy boost when you're not injured and they make wonderful treats for youma."
