Sadalsuud had spent some of her morning in the foyer, green eyes staring up at the silver mirror that they had come through when Queen Altea rescued them from the crumbling room in mirrorspace.
Like the other mirrors that she came across, the mirror seemed lifeless, although curiously no crystals seemed to grow on its surface - unlike those of the others.
She hadn't spent long by the mirror, or at least she didn't think that she had spent that long - because without watch or some sort of time piece it was hard to tell just how much time was passing - and had started walking with the intention of making her way over to the library–
At least that had been her intent, but it seemed that she had taken a wrong turn as she had found herself in the hallway leading towards the dining room instead.xxThe Space Cauldron for a backdated rp (prior to last prompt) with Altea - apologies for double-quote missed some of the post when copying it over from shrib

Altea had not been intentionally silent when she approached, but she moved with the noisiness of a shadow. Though, dressed in all white as she was, today, it might have been more fitting to liken her to a ghost. She stood behind Sadalsuud, tilting her head. She had approached from directly behind the Senshi, so it was no surprise if she hadn’t seen her; Sadalsuud’s head concealed Altea’s reflection from sight—until the queen moved from behind her and joined her by the mirror. She looked into the lifeless glass for a second and then smiled as she turned to face the Senshi. “See something you like?” she asked, friendly, and almost teasing. She seemed as regal as ever, fingers laced delicately before her; she spoke almost as if she were greeting an old friend and not a new guest. “I haven’t seen them move since you got here. I cannot tell if that is a good thing, or a bad thing. At the very least, it has been difficult to try and find a way to open them so you can return home. But, I hope the castle is treating you well enough, for now?” She looked hopeful, but inquisitive, and she seemed to hold on to the question and waited patiently for an answer.

Sadalsuud hadn't realised that there was anyone behind her, as the foyer had been empty - at least she had thought the foyer empty.
She visibly started at the sound of the voice just behind her, her green eyes full of a surprise that she wasn't able to hide as she turned around, although when she spotted the Queen behind her she managed a small bow and a smile that while slightly embarrassed was also genuine.
"Oh good morning Queen Altea" she said, her voice friendly. "Your castle is very pretty."
And then added - because as far as she was concerned it was true "And it was very kind of you to let us stay."
She shook her head slightly at the question about the mirror as she admitted "I was just looking" and then added because she was kind of curious about it "It doesn't seem to have any crystals growing on it - not like the others."

Altea smiled, pleased with the greeting and the friendly words. “No, it doesn’t,” she agreed, turning her gaze back to the mirror. “It is special. Can you feel the power within it?” She reached out, gently resting her hands on the frame of the mirror. “It is an heirloom, now. I have had it for so long. I think it is quite a striking piece. But there are many things in this universe that are enchanted. I like to think that this mirror brings protection with it.” She smiled fondly at it for a moment longer and dropped her hand before looking back to the girl at her side. “Do they have many places like this on your homeworld? Earth?” Altea asked, parroting the name she’d heard them use. “I am happy to provide the hospitality. It is more than worth it for the company.”

"Does that mean that the ones with the crystals growing them aren't special?" Sadalsuud asked curiously, admitting "I'm not sure what makes the mirrors back on Earth work - I've always assumed that it was part of our magic - although I still have a lot to learn about it."
And that went for both the magic and her court both.
She looked even more curious about the queen's comment that many things in this universe were enchanted, her voice turning half wistful as she admitted half to herself "I'd love to see them or at least some of them."
It belated dawned on her that she had made that admission out loud, her voice turning apologetic "I'm sorry" because she hadn't meant to. "It's just they sound so neat."
She nodded at Queen's Altea's question about whether they had places like this, Sadalsuud assuming that she was talking about the castle.
"Oh yes we do have castles back on Earth" Sadalsuud nodded. "But I've never had the chance to see one up close like this before."
She admitted quietly "People like me don't normally get to see castles like this outside of books."
Adding as she tried to hide the flash of sadness that thinking about Earth brought, most likely badly, "But even if I did then I don't think that they would be exactly like this."
Because she didn't think that the castles back on Earth came with all the crystals.

“Oh, every mirror is special, I think. It’s just that this one is a little more special than the others, to me. It’s okay if you don’t know about the mirrors back on Earth, though.” She smiled reassuringly. “You don’t need to apologize for your curiosity, though. Perhaps I can show you some of my favorites. I have a music box that I have had since I was a child. It’s beautiful. There are more practically enchanted things, of course, but I’ve kept it all these years. It is precious to me. The music never ends, and when you open it, it just seems to sparkle." She sighed wistfully, clearly still enchanted with the music box. “But I must ask,” she said, tilting her head so her attention was back on Sadalsuud. “What do you mean, ‘people like you’? Why wouldn’t they let you in? I thought Senshi were valued protectors.”

Sadalsuud nodded gently at Queen's Altea's comment about some mirrors being more special than others, because whilst she didn't personally have a favourite mirror, the Queen's words did make sense.
And said mirror in question did seem different to those of the others that she'd seen.
She found herself smiling back at the other's reassuring smile, nodding again - more excitedly - at Queen Altea's mention of perhaps showing her some of her favourites amongst the mentioned enchanted items.
"Oh I'd really like that - to see some of them at some point " she admitted brightly "They sound so wonderful" and the mentioned music box sounded beautiful.
"That is if you wouldn't mind showing me" because Queen Altea was a Queen and assumed that she would be busy doing Queen things - and she was already looking into a way to help them find their way back home.
At least she said she would do so and Sadalsuud had no reason to disbelieve her or to think that Queen Altea wasn't.
Sadalsuud's smile faded slightly at Queen Altea's next question, a part of her wondering how to answer it - because she'd seen the news reports–
It would have been very hard to miss the news reports and she didn't think that they would agree with the term 'valued protector'.
"I just meant that when I'm not like this" and at the word 'this' she gestured briefly at her senshi outfit "I'm pretty ordinary."
Far too ordinary for castles.

“How could I mind?” Altea asked, beaming. “I have not gotten to share them in so long. It would be my pleasure. Come,” she said, gesturing for the Dark Mirror to follow her. She began to lead Sadalsuud down a different hallway. Just because she was excited to show a music box though, she didn’t hesitate to continue the conversation. “When you say, ‘not like this’, do you mean that there is a difference?” she asked, eying the girl’s uniform as they walked. “I did not know Senshi had the option to be different. You must forgive me, I am a bit ignorant. It was never really a topic that came up in conversation. The only Senshi I ever knew about were, well,” she gestured to Sadalsuud’s outfit again. “And I cannot help but say, there is absolutely nothing ordinary about you. Being a Senshi is not meant for ordinary people. I am certain you must be brave and strong and clever. And beautiful, but I am certain you hear that often, yes?”

To be honest Sadalsuud hadn't been expecting Queen Altea to be able to show her the mentioned enchanted items - at least she hadn't been expecting her to be able to do so right now...
And she hadn't been angling for an immediate invite either - because Queen Altea was a Queen and Sadalsuud assumed that her time would be taken up with doing well Queen things–
But it didn't stop her from following along as Altea led her down a new hallway - because she really did want to see the enchanted items and she especially wanted to hear the music box.
She considered Altea's question as she continued to walk after her, her nose wrinkling slightly as she considered how best to explain powering down, before eventually settling on "Maybe different isn't quite the best word" because she was both Sadalsuud and Mi-Hi - even if she didn't seem to be able to power down into Mi-Hi here. "I guess you could say like it's more like being off-duty" and perhaps that wasn't the best word either - but it fit slightly better.
Her cheeks tinged at the compliments "Miss Kitten told me I was special, but I'm not really that brave," she admitted, adding "Miss Kitten is the cutest little black kitten and also the one who introduced me to all of this" because in way the small talking black kitten had, even if Mr Prince had helped as well.
"And my parents have called me pretty" although that didn't really count.
"By the way Queen Altea, I was wondering if there are any gardens here in the castle?"
Because it was something that Sadalsuud had been curious about.

Altea sighed heavily and a look of sadness seemed to cross her face. “There used to be. But when the sickness descended on my people, we had to board the exits. I’m afraid the loss of my garden is something I cannot bear to stand, so we haven’t made any efforts to open them up. I would rather live with the hope that my flowers are well and blossoming than have to see them withered and gone.” She was quiet for a moment and seemed to be considering the reality before she shook her head and pried her mind from such sorrows. She turned to smile at Sadalsuud before she stopped in front of a door. It was locked, and Altea reached to her belt to remove a set of keys. There were many keys, of many shapes and sizes, but she knew immediately which one unlocked this door. She opened it with ease, revealing a dark, musty room. Only a few dimly glowing crystals lined the ceiling, but it was enough for Altea to see. She stepped into the room, which seemed little more than a storage closet, and crouched to move a few boxes. Only a moment could have passed before she was standing, holding a dusty box. She stepped from the room, back into the well-illuminated hallway, and stood next to Sadalsuud. “One of my music boxes,” she explained, and quickly brushed some dust from it. “My favorite is up in my room, but I received this as a gift many, many years ago. Here, watch,” she instructed; she pushed a hidden button on the side of the small box. It was just barely big enough to warrant holding in two hands, and was clearly made of carved wood. Flowers decorated the edges, but the paint was faded. It glistened, just slightly on the outside, but the magic was really on the inside. Only a second after she pressed the button, the music box opened and began playing. The tune was foreign, and was little more than soft, tinkling chimes, but there was something soothing about the song. It was sad, but in the way that most music boxes seemed to be. In the center of the music box, a crystal flower spun slowly. It caught the light strangely, and seemed to reflect sparkles around it. It was almost as if little stars blinked in and out of existence as the flower turned. Altea held it like a treasure—because it was. There were no gears to turn, no knob to twist; the music simply played. The loop was perfect; the song was long enough that it wasn’t obvious where the music began and ended.

Whilst Sadalsuud had been curious about whether there were any gardens around in the castle, she hadn't meant for her question to cause distress.
"I'm sorry" she said quietly, into the silence, the look of sadness on Altea's face prompting the words - because she truly hadn't meant for her question to bring back what appeared to be sad memories.
"And I hope that they are well and blossoming out there too Queen Altea" her lips tilted up in a small smile "In fact I'm sure they are" because magic could do a lot - so surely it could help nourish some plants too.
Sadalsuud's smile widened as Altea stopped by a door and turned to smile at her, eyeing the set of keys curiously as the Queen selected one and used it to unlock the door.
Green eyes caught sight of what appeared to be a storage closet of some sort, crystals lining the ceiling casting a dim light on what appeared to be boxes and then Altea was stepping back in the better illuminated hallway with a small dusty box in her hands.
It was made of wood, the paint faded, but was beautifully decorated with flowers.
Altea asked her to watch and Sadalsuud did as she pressed something on the side, green eyes widening as the box opened up because–
Because she had never seen anything like it and it was really lovely with a turning crystal flower that caught the sparkles so prettily.
She found herself listening to the music, the song one that - whilst unfamiliar - felt somehow soothing, her smile peaceful as she watched the dancing sparkles that glittered over the flower and faded in and out like little stars.
"It's" her voice was quiet to the point of almost being a whisper, a part of Sadalsuud unwilling to break the mood "It's so pretty."

Altea watched as the music box continued to play and released a wistful sigh after another few seconds of it. Finally, almost reluctantly, she closed the music box. “I want to give you any small comfort that I can. I know these are difficult times, and I wish to ease them. I would like to offer it to you,” she said, handing the box out for Sadalsuud. “It is old and clearly sees no love, stored away like this. I had forgotten how beautiful it was, and now I cannot help but think what a shame it is to keep it in the shadows. If you are fond of it, will you accept it, as a gift?” She seemed hopeful, lips pursed but still curved into a smile.

Sadalsuud gave a small wistful sigh of her own as Queen Altea shut the music box bringing the music and display to an end. Because–
Because she could have happily kept listening to the music - no make that would have happily kept listening.
But Altea was a Queen and Sadalsuud knew that she had probably kept her long enough from her queen things.
Although maybe. Maybe she wouldn't mind...
Altea's next words took her by surprise, although it didn't stop Sadalsuud from reaching out to taking the offered box or from cradling it carefully in her hands "I.. I would love too" she said, a part of her wondering Altea was a mind reader of sorts as she had been about to ask her if she would mind letting her listen to it again.
"If you don't mind me having it that is" because she had remembered Queen Altea saying that had received it as a gift herself.

A smile, renewed, lit up Altea’s face. “I do not mind you having it. In fact, it would bring me great joy to know that someone else could experience it. I hope you will treasure it as I have. I can only make one request to you: please take good care of it. I think, in your hands, it will serve a better purpose than it could if I simply kept it locked away. But it would make me smile to know that it has a good home, with someone who will appreciate it.” She seemed complacent, and had a little bounce in her step. With the music box passed away, she turned to make sure the storage room was closed, and she promptly locked it. She hadn’t seemed concerned with Sadalsuud seeing anything that was in it, but Altea moved as though it was habit more so than necessity. When she finished, she turned to the Dark Mirror Senshi and continued, “But there are things like that, around here. It really does seem enchanted. I like when you find something that has just a little bit of magic to it. I think it makes life so much more wonderful. But, they don’t have things like that on Earth? Nothing that just is so beautiful, so fantastic, it takes your breath away?”

Sadalsuud gave Altea a bright smile "Thank you Queen Altea" her voice earnest even as her hands continued to carefully cradle the music box. "I'll take very good care of it."
It was a promise that she was both happy to make and fully intended to keep - because Sadalsuud intended to take the best care of the pretty music box.
Maybe she'd show it to Kiuchi and to Sinope as well as to Merkeb, Mr Prince and perhaps Avior too - because whilst it was something that Sadalsuud knew that she could listen to for ages - it was also so very pretty–
And pretty things were made for sharing.
She was far too caught up in her thoughts of the music box to try and peep in at the storage closet as Altea turned to lock it, although not to caught up to miss the question.
She shook her head "Nothing like this" - she admitted - because Sadalsuud had never ever come across anything quite like this.
Her smile turned rueful "I should let you get back to your duties" because Sadalsuud was ever conscious that Altea would have had to take time out to show her the music box. "But I was wondering if you would mind telling me how to get from the library from here before you do."
Because whilst Sadalsuud knew that she could try finding the way back herself by wandering - and was willing to do so - she also equally knew that it would also most likely end up in her getting hopelessly lost.
