There came a time in every child's life when it came time to leave home. For some it was later than others, for others it didn't come soon enough. Delphini was definitely somewhere in the middle. She'd always dreamed about leaving her father's family's home, yet at the same time was terrified by the idea. Her mother was from the "outside" world and it had often seemed that Deneb was reluctant at times to return to it once her and her father's time was over together. She'd often wondered why but had never had the courage to ask. It was hard to speak to mother sometimes. There was just such a heavy air of sadness that seemed to float around the mare no matter how hard she tried to hide it in front of her and her sisters. What had happened to her in her past to make her like that? Would it happen to her? Of course how would she know how to not have that happen if she didn't know what had caused it in the first place. Things were never easy. All she could do was heed the advice her mother had given her to use her head.

Not that her father hadn't done his part in preparing his daughters for whatever path they decided to take. If they'd wanted to learn to fight, he'd taught them and Phin had been a willing student. While being a warrior wasn't something she wanted full time, she at least knew enough to defend and keep herself safe.

The mare glanced up at the sky and noted that the sun was slowly starting to sink. The constant rotation of day and night was still something of a fascination to Phin. Sunlight had so rarely reached the depths of the forest she'd called home that true day had seemed a wondrous thing. Although it had come with it's own downside. Sunburn was definitely something she'd never had to worry about before. The fact she was darkly colored didn't save her after she'd spent all day ignorantly in the sun. She shuddered a bit involuntarily remembering the constant burning sensation that had covered her skin. The only thing that had been worse was the itching that had followed as her skin peeled under her fur. Despite all that she still enjoyed the daytime and all the wonders it held. Night was still special though. It made her feel close to her parents. Her mother who'd named her and her elder sister after stars and her father to her would always be the "Knight of the Night." She wondered what they were up to. Was father making his rounds? Had mother returned to her wandering yet?
