Name: Phayton
Age: 19
Sex: Male
Sexual Orientation: Bisexual
Craft: N/A
Rank: Weyrbrat/Candidate
Location: Western Weyr
Physical Description:
Tall (well, average-tall), dark, handsome. (Two out of three isn't bad!) Specifics: thick straight black hair that keeps flopping into his face and hangs down past his shoulders, coppery tan skin, big brown eyes, strong straight nose, completely charming lopsided derpy grin, slim lean muscles, constantly in motion. Dresses in whatever is at hand: usually some configuration of pants (yay!), boots, shirt with the sleeves rolled up or pullover or heck, sometimes he forgets a shirt entirely.
Not that he cares what people think, because he is about the least self-aware person regarding his looks (or anything else, really) you're likely to meet..
Personality:
Imagine Tigger, all bouncy energy and plush-tiger RAHRness. Now imagine if Tigger was a derpily-grinning, klah-chugging weyrbrat. That's pretty much Phayton in a nutshell. He is a young man who throws himself at life with a fierce, obnoxiously gleeful abandon and unrelenting joie de vivre; he firmly believes that you should make the most of every moment you're breathing -- LIVE EVERY DAY AT FULL SPEED BECAUSE YOU MIGHT DIE TOMORROW (said just like that, at full volume). And he plays even harder than he works, which is part of the problem.
Partying like he means it is something he does far too much of. Happy, good-natured, outgoing and fun-loving, if you're breathing, you are his friend! He's always up for fun and will party down with Lower Cavern worker and Weyrwoman alike. You can't really call him a slacker, because he works and trains ridiculously hard, but he IS somewhat tractable and when presented with an offer of GOOD TIMES AND GOOD COMPANY he will almost always succumb to temptation.
Thing is, Phayton has it in him to be an excellent dragonrider; he's dedicated as all hell, has a natural instinct for big-picture tactics, and gosh darn it, people seem to actually kinda like him. It just hasn't occurred to him yet that he could ever actually BE a dragonrider. He's been standing for clutches since he was old enough to and look, nothing's happened yet. The idea that he'll never Impress has started to creep into his thoughts, and he doesn't like thinking bad things, like what'll happen to him if he doesn't Impress. So he acts out so he won't think about it, which as he is growing out of boyhood and into manhood isn't necessarily a good thing at all.
Positive Trait List Fun-loving, dedicated to the Weyr, natural tactician, friendly
Negative Trait List Easily distracted, loud, insecure, accidental troublemaker
History:
Phayton was born at Western Weyr to a pair of dragonriders, his dad a greenrider, his mum a brownrider. He was your typical little weyrbrat, an energetic, easily-distracted kid who would never turn down a dare or a mug of klah. As is typical for kids born at the Weyr, it was assumed he'd be a dragonrider someday, and he started standing for clutches as soon as he was old enough, at age 14. And standing. And standing. But nothing ever came of it, and his parents shook their heads and patted him on the shoulder and told him not to worry, next time for sure.
Then the Red Star returned, and the first Threadfall happened in Western Weyr's coverage area, and one minute mum and her big brown were turning to take out a clump of Thread and the next a gust of wind blew it into their faces and they screamed and went Between never to be seen again.
Phayton was helping load firestone into bags and saw everything. And you can bet that watching his mother die messed with his 18-year old mind; it's one thing to read about it and hear the stories, but another to be confronted directly with the horror of Thread. Kinda de-romanticizes the whole Ninth Pass. He decided right then and there to live every day as if it would be his last; that was also when he decided he was going to be the BEST DRAGONRIDER EVER to honor his mum's memory. With that as his goal, he started standing for clutches in earnest.
And he's still standing for clutches. It's bound to happen someday, isn't it?
