It hadn't been a very long nap. The rainy afternoon light was still filtering in through the bedroom window when Jordan woke up again, warm and comfortable and feeling very good. He stayed right where he was; he'd exchanged a pod room shift with a Moon who owed him a minor favor so that he could have his afternoon entirely free for whatever he wanted to do with it. There was still time.

Rep slept like a cat these days, comfortable wherever he curled up, even if that was on top of a pile of junk. When he was in somewhere genuinely cosy this effect was even greater. He rolled over and sought out the warmth of the other man, slinking his arms around him. His dreams had been brief, a flit through a blue kingdom where his other self had laughed and said "******** finally" out loud.
Things would be more complicated he knew, things always got more complicated, but he didn't care at all. Complicated he could work with, and for the first time in years, the guilt was truly gone.
He opened his eyes, his long hair splayed behind him like a red and white mane. "I'm really ******** glad you didn't have the bugs." he said.

"Mmm. Yes." Jordan laughed a little and rolled over to face Rep, draping his arm over Rep's waist and idly running his fingers through his long hair, just enjoying the freedom to touch. He had not dreamed, or if he had he did not remember it. But the dreams would no longer carry as much of a bitter edge to them when he woke, and he was grateful for this as well. "The look on the tech's face was pretty funny, anyway." The sound of rain was soothing, as was the warmth of shared breath. He drew his toes along Rep's ankle absently. It wouldn't always be this simple, but that was okay. Neither of them expected it to be. They'd work through problems as they arose.

Rep smirked. "I was going to ******** strangle that guy if he didn't just hand over the ******** info. Life is such a ******** inefficient division sometimes, too many smug pricks." It was obvious he didn't think the same thing about Death, content with the effectiveness of a good old fashioned Cael at scaring the hell out of people.
He no longer flinched or drew away from the contact, more stable in himself than he'd ever been, happy to return the affection in kind. He still always like a furnace, warm to the touch even in the face of Tracey's cooling effects.
"I've been pretty intolerant of everything lately. I need to calm my s**t honestly. Been trying to focus on nice things. Was thinking about opening a wee grocery store, corner shop sort of thing, sell newspapers, magazines, stuff people might need, bread, milk. Make it feel more like home over there in towns."

"One of their specialties. Although I'd argue that you can find smug pricks in every division," Jordan said lazily. He was content in Sun, regardless of the occasional run-ins with opposing personalities. There were always adjustments to be made.
Jordan had trimmed his hair recently, and it feathered short around the nape of his neck again. He made a small pleased sound at the touch, leaning into it like an affectionate cat.
"You've seemed irritable," he agreed, mild. "I think a grocery store would be a great idea, get in a place where people get can get some necessities and groceries without having to burn leave to do it. Got a spot in mind, or are you still looking?"

"True. They are ******** everywhere, I think they recruit them special." Just a big recruitment drive for assholes. "There are just some divisions with higher concentrations. You don't get as many in Death because Caelius scares them the ******** out of there pretty quick and they scurry to safer places."
He lazily leaned over to trail a few lazy kisses across Jordan's throat.
"Was thinking next to the bar, get a wee shopping district going. Easier to defend if it's close too, in case towns is under attack. Wouldn't want to spread myself thin."

"Personality traits that coincide with Fear sensitivity: paranoia, aggression, smug-prickness." Jordan laughed softly. "I think Allan drives most of them off Sun with sheer weird enthusiasm." He tipped his head back with a pleased hum, eyes half-closing. "Mmm. Makes sense. Get people invested in a shopping district and you'd have more defenders too."

Rep nodded. "True. I wasn't really good enough for Sun or never felt that way. Death is like.. they tell me I'm s**t but its fine, I prefer that to telling me I can be anything at all. Found myself suited to Death most for whatever reason."
"Exactly the plan." he said with a grin. "It's just a shame we can't get some franchises going covertly. I'd ******** love a starbucks or a McDonalds. But in lieu of that I'd just love for people to make this place feel like a home rather than a hotel we all just sort of live in all the time. A future for all of us."

"I'm glad you found somewhere you're more comfortable." Jordan shifted closer, enjoying the warmth. "It'd probably piss me off after a while. Different styles." He'd been in Death in another of the lives he'd glimpsed, but it might have been different there. He didn't know. "Depending on the franchise, you could probably get in some of the products," he mused. "Don't waste the money on Starbucks, though. s**t coffee. Local places are almost always better anyway." It was said with a small laugh, an acknowledgement that his snobbery was ridiculous. "Coffee place, grocery, maybe a general store. I wonder if anyone's got the experience to get a restaurant started."

Rep laughed. "Aye, no s**t. You'd get so ******** tired so quick of Caelius. I mean I like him, he's eye candy and he's like having a pet tiger who is also your boss. Like, he'll ******** you up if you are stupid or in his way but he'll also ******** up the enemy. There's something honest about that. I like it, though definitely no for everybody. You like to be listened to because you have important things to say. I don't have important things to say."
He stretched out. "True. I only ever really tried Starbucks s**t and what I could blag from you. A restaurant would be nice, the bar can only do like, bar food and stuff, nothing fancy. Bet there's some good cooks on the island." he smiled "It's just a dream of mine, to just have a town that like, lives and breathes."

"You've got important things to say, you're knowledgeable," Jordan said, but he wasn't going to start an argument over it if Rep objected. This was their time to relax together and be close, rather than having an extended discussion.
"And you put more sugar in it than should even be legal, anyway," he teased gently. "I bet we've got more people with marketable skills than we know about. It'd be nice to have the town start to be a real place to live again, instead of just a few scattered houses." It was a good dream, he thought, and it was a good thing for Rep to have a goal, even if it was a relatively nebulous and far-off one.

"I ******** wish." Rep said. "Honestly though like, I guess I prefer it when people think I'm dumb. There's less to ******** up, less to care about and less to hurt me. I just watch, listen and keep s**t to myself. I've seen a lot about the Legacies, I've spoken to them, I've met them, I probably know more than most people on this whole island. But no one cares about my opinion and somehow that's better, because then I can just ignore it and don't need to like, bring it up much. Other than with you but you and Ace are different obviously."
He couldn't help but laugh at the comment about sugar. "Well if you don't put hunners of sugar in it then you can still taste the ******** water. I don't want to taste hot water in my drink!" He nodded "But aye, a nice wee town would be great. I've got some s**t fixing up streets over there, got a few fledgeling like, streets and communities going already, it just makes me happy, it's like, its something I can do without ******** it up."

"If that's the way you'd rather have it," Jordan said, somber for a moment. He had never considered Rep as dumb as many people seemed to; there was a sharp mind behind the aggression and bluster, sharper than people gave Rep credit for. But if Rep preferred to be underestimated, Jordan wasn't going to argue the point. He reached up to trace two fingers along the line of Rep's jaw, a slow caress. "Way too sweet," he laughed. "If I wanted to drink sludge I'd drink the cafeteria coffee." He shifted, rearranging himself to lean on one elbow. "It's a good project," he agreed, and offered, tentatively, "If you want my help with stuff ... "

"Aye." he said. "Easier. I never want anyone to expect anything of me." He leaned his face into Jordan's touch needily. "I'll only ever let them down." And it felt good to say it, knowing that Jordan understood, that he'd seen the darkest parts of him and yet he stayed. He brought up one of his hands to place it over the hand on his jaw before relaxing again.
"Augh cafeteria coffee man. I 'like, hoard mugs and have seen some s**t but I don't even know if that machine has ever been washed ever." He looked grim.
"And definitely I want your help, you are the smartest guy I know, of course I do."

Hearing the thought voiced hurt every time, a reminder that much of what drove Rep stemmed from old, deep injuries, pain lived with long enough to have become background noise inside the walls built in part to defend against it. Jordan didn't answer the statement in words, instead leaning in for a short, soft kiss, wordless reassurance. I hear you. I'm still here."Maybe they'll have to replace the machine with all the rest of the s**t that got damaged in the cafeteria," he said, sounding vaguely hopeful. "I'll help, then. Just call me." This, too, was a reassurance, this one for him: still wanted, still needed, in more than one way.
