Snorting a little in amusement, Canary ran her fingers through her newly dyed hair and nodded in satisfaction. It had been a small enough concession on her part to allow herself to be used as the guinea pig for a micro-makeover for the show. It wasn't exactly a ratings grabber, but it kept her producer from having a coronary on set.
So... not exactly a win or a loss.
Deciding that she'd keep the pink ombre dye job, Canary made a last rounds of the studio before beginning the lock up process. As she flipped the lights and equipment off, she sighed. Micro-makeovers. This was what she was reduced to. What a pity she couldn't track some of those costumed freaks down and gangpress one of them into a tell-all interview. Something like that would shoot her straight into fame territory. As she locked the door behind her, Canary closed her eyes and allowed a dreamy smile to flicker over her features.
"Note to self," she muttered into the night. "Find me a weirdo and get an interview no matter what."
Pocketing the key, she skipped down the steps and headed for the parking lot.

Sometimes life was boring. That was all there was too it. Though, Cavansite should have been happy that at the very least Painite was back in her life…perhaps that meant things would eventually begin to get a lot…a lot less boring. And honestly, now that she thought about it, of course that’s what it would mean. There was not an ounce of Painite that was anything less than…interesting. To say the least.
She was moving swiftly from rooftop to rooftop when a flash of pink caught her eye and she paused. Oh…perhaps this could be a good distraction…a plaything.
Or a possible new recruit? She didn’t know the girl before her…but she had a rather tough look about her…and…well. Perhaps instead of doing extensive research as she had done with Laurence…perhaps Painite’s school of corruption was the way to go.
See what they can do when faced with an obstacle, and then bring them in to the fold if you think they’re worthy…hadn’t that been what happened to her? It made sense.
Leaping off of the studio building, Cavansite landed like a cat, right in front of the pink haired girl and straightened up. “Hello dear. I do hope you’ve been having a good night…because you’re about to make mine quite interesting. And, I’ve been ever so bored.”
Her spear materialized out of nothing into her hand and she grinned at the woman, waiting to see the fear begin to creep into her eyes.
If nothing else…this would be amusing.

Maybe the sudden and somewhat aggressive appearance of one of the wished for freaks should have scared her. Certainly, the woman with the delicious dye job pulling a freakin' spear out of hammer space should have terrified the s**t out of her. But Canary was nothing is not supremely confident in herself and in maintaining control over any situation she found herself in.
Besides, she had a comfortingly heavy wad of maille in her purse with gave her a nice, impromptu sort of means of self defense.
Besides, besides, this was exactly what she'd just been wishing for! One of the costumed weirdos to talk to and finagle into a fascinating tell-all!
And no way was Canary Jones letting this opportunity slip by.
Grinning like a toothpaste ad on crack, the talk show host moved in closer, eyes scanning the other woman hungrily.
"How'd you call that spear? Are you one of the terrorists all the so-called proper journalists keep harping about? Oh my ******** god, girl! You have got to give me an exclusive interview! Say yes? You'd be such a ratings bonanza! I'll be your best friend!"
Canary Jones was more than willing to be best buds with anyone who helped her move ahead in life.

Cavansite was quite taken aback. When the woman not only showed no fear…but smiled at her like Cavansite was the utter answer to her prayers…that was more than enough to throw her whole game off kilter.
“I…what?” Of all of the reactions she expected, this was not it. If this woman was a senshi or a knight, or had one nearby, it would have been the utter perfect situation to take out a General, but thankfully, there was nobody else around.
Drawing closer, Cavansite reached out and took the girl’s chin in her hand, frowning. “You’re not afraid of me? After I just called a ******** spear into existence from nothing? Don’t you realize that I came here to kill you? And yet…you want an interview…even if it costs your life?”
She let her hand slide down from the pink haired woman’s chin and let it rest against her chest, right over her starseed…not that she would know that, but still.
“Because, I suppose I could answer a few questions that you have…but you would have to pay the price in the end…are you willing to do that?”

Eyes still hungrily grazing over the apparently homicidal oddball, Canary gave a decidedly unladylike snort as her chin was held. Amusement blazing from her eyes, she smirked as the other woman's hand traveled down to rest against her chest.
"Oh please," she said, voice holding a bit of challenge as she actually laughed at the threat. "Do you realize the people I see and interact with on a daily basis here? I have had assholes claiming to be priests of the elder gods on my show, honey. And I've gotten more than my share of death threats from my own guests and watchers. And I seem to have survived just fine."
There was a clear tone of b***h, please coloring her words. Canary wasn't afraid, she wasn't boasting. She was simply stating facts. If she'd been able to manipulate and talk down a crazed cultist who'd had delusions of grandeur á la Mola Ram and survive being chased around her own studio, she could survive this.
Gently pushing the other woman's hand from her chest, Canary Jones grinned and winked playfully.
"You gonna go all Temple of Doom on me, pretty lady? Look, it's late and I haven't eaten yet. We can negotiate the interview and my apparent doom over a burger. And I still wanna know how you made that spear show up. I'll even buy the burgers and shakes. What'd'ya say?" Canary's voice had gone pleasantly wheedling with the faintest undertone of intimate curiosity.
Clearly, she didn't put much concern into the idea that she might die. Canary Jones was entirely confident in her ability to talk the other woman out of attempted murder. And frankly, she wanted that interview more than anything. If entertaining a loony got her what she wanted, she was happy to play along.

The tone of the woman’s words caused Cavansite’s eyes to raise and a look of annoyance to flicker across her face. Honestly, it might be better to just take the starseed of this one. She didn’t seem as though she’d be the most…docile of underlings. Still…
She was quite literally asking for it.
Though, when she moved her hand away, the General scoffed.
“My hand was there for a reason, I’ll thank you not to move it again. If you want answers,” She placed her hand back over Canary’s chest, though this time pushed inside, wrapping her fingers lightly around her starseed, going so far as to stroke the small crystal gently with her thumb.
...Would it really be so bad to just...rip it? The world wouldn’t miss this woman, she was sure of it. “What do you know about souls, hm? Did you know that I can pull them out. Crush them. Hell, I can eat them if I have to...but...for some special people, and I suppose today...you can be among that group…”
She began to push chaos into the small crystal, feeling it rush from her very core, down her arm, through her fingers and into the starseed.
“You’ll be having all the answers that you could ever want in just a moment. Oh, and sorry for the pain.”

For a moment, Canary was ready to give the freaky chick up as a bad job. And when the other’s woman’s hand went back to her chest, Canary was definitely ready to turn around and walk off. She preferred to be in control of any felt up experiences. And she absolutely preferred to not be scolded like she was an errant little girl.
Opening her mouth to give Miss Homicidal a piece of her mind, Canary’s voice went silent from shock as the woman’s hand literally went into her chest. Jesus tapdancin’ Christ, she really was dealing with ******** Mola Ram! She could feel the woman’s fingers wrap around something inside and heard a distinct whimper of shock squeak past the lump in her throat. She was ready to tell the other that the interview request was withdrawn, though a small, tiny, cyncial part of her brain was recording the other woman’s words and snorting in disbelief at the idea of eatable souls. And she had to wonder why she was receiving an apology for pain. Having the hand in her chest wasn’t comfortable but it didn’t hurt…
Oh. OH.
Something was being shoved into that part of her that the woman’s fingers had seized. Something that burned and hurt more than anything she could have ever imagined. And with that pain, Canary Jones finally tried to fight back, trying to shove the other away, even as she screamed uncontrollably as something deep inside of her was altered.

“Oh hush now. It’ll be over soon.” Cavansite purred, her other hand wrapping around the woman’s shoulders to steady her, grinning as still she tried to fight. It was cute. Like a flower fighting a chainsaw.
Her voice had grown tender as she watched the change taking place, felt the woman becoming part of their group…part of her team. First Laurence and now this…well. It hadn’t gone completely as she’d liked, but since Gently was back…it had been all too easy to fall into the pattern of the other woman, using fear for everything instead of calculated reason as she had done with Laurence.
Still, she hoped this wouldn’t be a mistake.
When the change had been finished and the civilian had a weaker energy signature that matched Cavansites, she finally withdrew her hand, slowly and not before gently stroking the starseed once again. “Beautiful. Welcome to the team.” She paused for a moment, looking the new lieutenant up and down and nodding in a tired, yet satisfied way. “Lieutenant Nacrite. I am your General, Cavansite and you will obey me, and in return, I will make sure you get stronger and make me and the Negaverse proud. If you are still up to buy me those burgers that you dangled, I would love to take you up on that offer, and I will tell you everything that you need to know, and then I will tell you everything you need to know to succeed.”
She reached up and ran her fingertips across the lieutenant’s cheek. “Beautiful.”

Gradually, the pain receeded and Canary felt her knees go weak as she slumped to the ground, shaking her head as if dizzy. She felt different. Stronger, for all she was crouched on the ground panting as if she'd just finished a marathon. She barely heard the other woman's... Cavansite's? words, too resentful for the moment of whatever had been done to her. She felt fingers brush her cheekand wished with all her heart for the moment that she had something to hand to slap the other with.
And just like that, a slap bracelet suddenly appeared in her hand. Blinking in shock and dropping the thing, she caught sight of her own shoulders from the corner of her eye and yelped. When had she been inked with ******** stripes? Reaching up, she rubbed her fingers against her shoulders, reassured when it seemed to be simple paint.
After a moment, her brain shoved down the panic to process Cavansite's words. The other woman had called her beautiful, though Canary... no, Nacrite sensed it was less her looks than whatever transformation she'd undergone that provoked that reaction.
And since Cavansite was being a lot friendlier now and was actually willing to talk, Nacrite's own attitude warmed. Wobbling shakily to her feet, she noticed she had new clothes to match the paint and weirdness.
"Burger offer is still very much open, since I would really love to know what in the ******** name of ******** just happened. And I do love succeeding. Gotta say I dig these boots, though," she said drily, studying her new footwear. Hope you're planning on explaining the military jargon and this Negaverse thing too."
Confusion flickering over her face for a moment, Nacrite began to laugh. It was the only way to keep from screaming at the weirdness of everything.
"Do I get my regular clothes back? I paid a lot for that jacket, y'know."

Cavansite laughed richly, pleased when the new lieutenant got to her feet, and after pausing for a moment to look her up and down, she let her own powered glamour fade away, leaving Karone Perkins standing there, a smug smile on her face. “Just picture yourself. Think about who you are, and you’ll become that person again. My name is Karone, and tonight you’ll have your first lesson on everything, and later…I’ll teach you to fight. I’ll teach you how to become the best and the strongest. I don’t mean to brag, but you have a fantastic General to guide you, and I’ll make sure you never lose sight of what’s important.”
She took another long look at her lieutenant and grinned again, turning and stretching before walking away. “Come on, I’m hungry and I can hear those burgers calling me. We have a lot to talk about, so let’s not waste time, honey.”
And so began the adventure of her second lieutenant. And…Karone was quite content.
…She hoped Gently would be as proud as she felt.

Just think about who she was? Well, that was easy enough. Especially since she had the delightful example of Cavansite becoming Karone. With a small sigh, she let go of how Nacrite felt and slipped back into Canary's comfortable skin.
Giving herself a little shake before finding her purse and quickly fished out a mirror, happy to see zero trace of any magical paint. Dropped the mirror back, she nodded in satisfaction and began to follow Karone, putting on a bit of speed so that she could walk side by side.
"Name's Canary Jones. I know a fabulous little place that makes the best burgers on earth, though you'd never know to look at it. They'll even do veggie burgers if meat isn't your thing."
For the moment, the questions she wanted to ask were put aside in favor of food. Smiling a little to herself, she reflected how this road to success seemed to begin with burgers.
