When Akio Yoshida opened his eyes, he had been expecting to see the same ceiling he'd woken up to for the last three, almost four years.
It was a plain ceiling. Beige. Stucco, with a small patch missing where he'd long suspected a leak had started to form with his upstairs neighbor's pipes. There weren't any watermarks - yet - so he felt comfortable with not reporting it to management yet and making a big to-do about it.
But the stucco wasn't there. It was flat, flat and smooth and very un-bumpy, as far as stucco-less ceilings went. Brown eyes blinked as he worked to improve his focus, while at the same time investigate the soft smell of --- oh.
His arm was still occupied, stolen away by a slumbering teenager that remained curled up alongside him. Neither were under the blanket but the room was warm, her body providing more than enough heat for him to remain comfortable in. Truthfully, it wouldn't have mattered if he'd ended up sleeping on the floor in Aurora's room - she'd asked him to stay over and he'd be a fool to tell her no.
Hell, he was a fool no matter what; the least he could do was ensure her happiness, even if it was just a tiny, fragmented sliver of happiness to help her weather the storm of whatever sadness had washed over her. She hadn't wanted to talk about it, he didn't press.
He was simply there.
Lips found the top of her head and he kissed the soft hair tenderly, smoothing back the waves as he curled in alongside her. Every minute that he could linger like this was a minute he could cherish... ignoring the nagging thought in the back of his head that, if it were morning, it meant answering to Mister Willows as to why he was over in the first place.
That... That was an issue for a later point in the day. For the moment, it was just her and him, snuggled together in one another's arms.

It had taken Rory longer than she would have liked to fall asleep despite the warm, comforting embrace of her ever lovely boyfriend. In the back of her mind there was the worry that her dad would stumble upon them when he got in and be furious but she didn't care. She was less than half a year short of being a certified legal adult and she had already graduated high school.
She didn't ask him to stay over for sex, she asked him to stay over for comfort and everything had been completely PG. Pops would just have to deal if he was upset about any of it.
Stirring was more difficult because of how content she felt but lips pressing against her hair and she shifted, scooting in closer to the warmth of an otherwise cold room. Her nose nuzzled against the base of his throat while small hands grasped tightly at whatever shirt he was wearing. "Just a little longer," she mumbled, words muffled by how hidden her face was.
Most of her braid had come undone during the night with loose strands fanning across the pillows when she forced herself to draw back enough to look at the handsome face of quite possibly the most wonderful man.
"Hi," she said quietly, lifting a hand to run knuckles along the side of his face.

"Take as long as you'd like."
His heart swelled as he watched her slowly look up at him, his sleepy, wonderful girlfriend gazing at him with those beautiful jade eyes that he could never get enough of. It took most of his strength not to dip down and kiss every inch of her pale, porcelain skin so he opted to simply rest his forehead against hers as he smiled back down at the young woman in his arms.
"Morning, beautiful."
His cheek pressed into her hand, enjoying the feeling of her skin against his. It wasn't how he'd imagined their first night in bed together, but Akio wouldn't have turned it down for the world.
Turning his head to kiss her balled-up fist, he closed his eyes and sighed happily. "How are you feeling?"

"Mornin' handsome," she replied.
Rory thought that it was hard to not be in awe of the whole situation. Akio had come to her immediately and just held her for as long as she needed. She was lucky, so terribly lucky.
So...why wasn't she happier? (Because Seal was gone and she loved him.)
When asked how she was doing, Rory had to contemplate how truthful she was going to be about it. She wasn't doing well but she wasn't a complete mess like she had been last night. After a long pregnant pause she had decided. "Better," she told him, shifting so she was propped up on an elbow. "Better because of you."
As if to thank him, she leaned over and kissed him.

His idle hand moved to toy with some of the loose hair that continued to dangle against the side of her face. It would be easy to brush it back behind her ear but he found himself enjoying the simple pleasure of playing with it, up until she leaned in to kiss him.
It didn't matter how many times they kissed - every time her lips moved to capture his, it completely stole his breath away. If his heart hadn't already been pounding to the thought of her, it surely was now.
Hair was released, his hand moving to gently cup her cheek as he returned the affection. He was light and gentle in his approach, however, knowing well that he was lucky enough as it was to receive a gifted kiss, much less an evening of her that lasted well into the morning. Akio couldn't help but wonder if this was how Hydra felt towards him - the other him - was Aurora simply placating him in the same regards that he had placated the corrupt senshi?
"That's good." He finally murmured in response, pulling away with the unspoken words, I love you on the tip of his tongue. It didn't matter to him if she failed to return the feeling - he had enough love for the both of them, until the day came that she either returned the feelings or...
Or whatever was to happen, happened.
"Did you want to get breakfast?" I love you.
"I know of a cute little place for brunch that we could go to." I love you.
"... Unless you wanted to make something here?" I love you.
Adjusting to mimic her pose, his arm slipped from beneath her and rested against his cheek, propping his head up as he grinned over at her.

Kissing Akio was almost as wonderful as all the times she had kissed Seal's Eye but that was a thought she shoved aside in order to focus on the weight of his lips against her own. His kisses were a perfect distraction and she found that she didn't ache as much when he lavished her with them.
Had he not insisted on talking, Rory might have been content to kiss the morning away because then she wouldn't be thinking and if she wasn't thinking...
"Let's go out." She decided, surprising herself when she spoke. Most of the time she opted to stay in and make a meal at home but she wanted something different. Besides, she wanted to enjoy being able to step out with her ordinary boyfriend and know that dating him wasn't going to cause them any sort of harm like her meetings with Seal could have.
She looked at his clothing and frowned slightly. "Oh. Your clothes..." She had a closet full of things she could wear but he would be forced to whatever he had worn over. Unless..."I mean I have some of Ax and Pasi's stuff? Probably a little bit on you but..."
The creak of stairs distracted her. "Oh. Pops is home." Chewing on her cheek she kissed him briefly one more time before sliding out of his comforting embrace. "You're gonna have to talk to him y'know."

The surprise was evident on Akio's face at her sudden agreement to going out for breakfast. Something really terrible must have happened for his penny-conscious girlfriend to be willing to let him splurge on her without a second thought...which was even more concerning, the more Akio dwelled on it.
So he decided to simply not dwell on it.
Jade eyes sized him up and he looked down at his own attire, sheepish at the amount of wrinkles his shirt had acquired over the evening. Jeans were one thing, but the shirt was a hot mess as far as the fabric went. The thought of wearing another guy's clothing failed to appeal to him, but if it meant grabbing breakfast with his sweetheart before work, he'd consider it a sacrifice - taking one for the figurative "team", so to speak.
He was about to cave in and tell her to find one of the other boy's sweaters or whatever she had (he really wasn't going to think about what she had in her possession that belonged to other men, frankly) when she'd cut him off about her father.
Well crap.
The sound on the staircase was not soft, nor quiet. Akio hadn't considered Aurora's father being factored in - but then again, he hadn't realized he'd be staying the entire night, either.
Crap, crap, crap.
Instead of testing out her window to see how sturdy the roof was (not that he didn't consider the option, honestly), he swallowed hard and looked to the teenager.
"W-What should I say?"
Slowly but surely, the steps grew louder as the heavy man arrived on the landing.

It was sort of sweet and almost endearing to watch as Akio worried about what it might mean to meet her father on poor terms...again. "Don't worry about it okay? I've got this," she promised, pressing her lips against his for a quick and chaste kiss before she was climbing out of bed just as her father knocked on her bedroom door and cracked it. Mr. Willows didn't enter, at least, clearly aware that his daughter had a guest.
"Rora?" Came the gruff voice from the other side of the door.
"Yeah Pops, come in." She was smoothing out her hair and rubbing at her still puffy eyes from the tears that had fallen the other night.
The big burly ex-marine stepped through the door and seemed to take up all the available space in the room that the other two occupants didn't. Immediately his gaze fell to the boy on her bed, eyes narrowed slightly but his lips were twisted in a frown. "Boy," he greeted gruffly.
"Pops," Rory says carefully, returning to Akio's side and gathering his hand in hers. "This is Akio. I...had a rough night last night and asked him to come over."
"You know how I feel about overnight guests." Her father said gruffly, taking in the way his daughter looked and how her boyfriend looked. "Don't...make it a habit." He sounded displeased but not like he was going to cause a scene over it. "I expect a...formal meeting. Dinner, this weekend? I finally have a Saturday off."
To which Rory looked at Akio for the answer.

Akio was ready to die.
As the door slowly creaked open and the giant of a man stepped into the tiny room belonging to the tiny teenage girl, he was already saying the Lord's Prayer in the back of his mind. He was thinking about all the accomplishments he'd done in his lifetime and all of the ones he'd always wished he could do in the future. He thought about how he hadn't called his mother and how the package she sent yearly for his birthday hadn't arrived yet - he wouldn't even get to live long enough to taste her homemade sweets again, this year. No, this was it, this was the end and he'd at least die (hopefully) in Aurora's soft arms and---
His girlfriend's grip helped keep him calm but the grown man visibly winced when he was finally addressed by the ex-Marine. The very large ex-Marine.
Akio one hundred and twenty percent believed that he was about to be thrown out of the apartment by the scruff of his collar. When he wasn't, his eyes widened even more and he found his mouth hanging open, slack-jawed at the sudden request.
No, not request - practically a demand.
He could feel both sets of eyes fall upon him as both father and daughter awaited an answer. Fingers tightened their hold around the soft, calming ones holding on to his and he swallowed hard.
"It would be an honor to finally meet you properly, sir."

Her father looked at him with a cold glance before nodding once.
"We'll make it work pops," Rory promised, offering the man the best smile she could muster. "We're gonna go get breakfast before Akio has to go to work, if that's okay pops?" She made sure to look like she really needed this, because she did.
It didn't take him long to break, crossing the room to smooth out her hair and kiss the top of it. "Okay, Rora. Dinner Saturday at seven." The tone he used and the glance he gave her boyfriend meant that there was no room for argument.
"Okay," she replied, smiling at her dad before pushing him back towards the door. "You need to sleep, you're still on the night shift."
Mr. Willows laughed, patting her on the head and ambling towards the door where he paused. "No funny business with my girl, got it Akio?" He said it lightly but the threat was still every much there. With that, Mr. Willows continued on his way towards his bedroom.
Once she heard the door click she placed herself between Akio's legs and pressed her wrists against his shoulders. "You ready to go to breakfast handsome?"

What Akio was ready to do was find the nearest hole and bury himself in it.
BUT, as that was not a feasible option, he opted for at least getting out of the Willows residence instead. His stomach was not prepared for food anymore (the man knew his name - the man knew his name) but any excuse to spend with Aurora was excuse enough for Akio.
"Y-Yes sir."
The response to her father had been meek and probably unheard, the large man stepping out and making his way down the hallway, presumably to his own bedroom. Aurora was quick to step in and try to comfort her frazzled boyfriend, who looked as though he'd witnessed his own life flash in front of his eyes. "Yeah, beautiful, let's get out of here."
He didn't bother changing, rising from the bed and grabbing hold of her" hand before making a beeline for the bedroom door. He'd go to breakfast wrinkly and then swing by his apartment for a quick change before heading out to the school. Thankfully, none of his classes at the elementary academy begun until closer to ten, so he had time to spare. He'd simply... wing the lesson. Or something.
Down the stairs he flew, Aurora's hand in tow and his mind racing a mile a minute. "Any place in mind? The brunch spot? Or...?"

Things happened too quickly for her to stop and it wasn't until he had her halfway to the front door that she dragged him to a halt.
"Akio. Akio, stop!" She had to yank her hand away from him to get him to realize that she wasn't going anywhere. She didn't have shoes on and she was still wearing her bed shirt and shorts. "I need to change."
He might have been fine going in wrinkled clothing but she wasn't interested in going anywhere when she looked like she just woke up. Which, she had.
Besides her hair was a mess and she at least wanted to brush it out.
"I don't even have shoes or socks on." And Rory didn't own any sandals or flip-flops. Puzzled she took a moment to observe her frazzled boyfriend's face. "It's gonna be okay, you know that right? Pops knows that I like you and that you make me happy." She reached for his face to draw her forehead down to press against hers. "We'll go where you suggested earlier, okay? Give me five minutes to change and fix my hair."

It wasn't until she was tugging him back that reality set back in.
He had been fully prepared to dash out of his girlfriend's house with her in her pajamas and neither of them in shoes. No second thoughts, wrinkled clothing and all.
Oops.
"Right, right." He had sense enough to look sheepish as brown eyes lifted to gaze into jade ones. She was right - she tended to be always right, though, didn't she? - they needed to at least look presentable enough not to scare the waitress away once they finally made it to the brunch spot.
Traiking behind her back up the stairs, he also caved in. "If you've got something that'll fit me, I'll wear one of their shirts or whatever."
His hand waved for emphasis, an attempt at Not Caring being made in reference to the other men's clothing in Aurora's possession. The least he could do for trying to drag her off would be to look like less of a bohemian himself...right?

She let go of his hand once they reached her bedroom door, because she wasn't going to allow him in if she was changing. It was different than when he had pulled off his shirt to try on new ones at the mall. Something about being home, and probably societies gender norms that had been pressed into her by the world since birth, kept her shy about her own body and frame.
"It's not like it's a shirt belonging to an ex-boyfriend Akio. It's just one of Ax's shirts." She clearly didn't see what the hubbub of it all was.
Slipping into her room she pulled out a neatly folded shirt that she thought her boyfriend would fit into without it being too large. Axton was more muscular that Akio, but their heights were about the same. "I'll be right back," she promised with a kiss to his cheek before disappearing into her room.
Two minutes later she reappeared in a dress and cardigan, boots on and laced with her hair loose and down so she could finger comb it before making her way to the bathroom. There she fixed her hair into a more manageable state and, once Akio had changed, she returned to his side and took his hand.
"Come on handsome," she said with a smile. "Let's get breakfast."
With that, they were headed out the door.
