Growing up was a very difficult thing to do. Not that anyone had ever said that it would be easy, but honestly, Cider hadn’t ever really counted on it being this..hard either. Not that it was really that difficult…she was just…in a slump, that was all. Writing a book, now that was something that was difficult. And she was stuck on the first chapter.
The hybrid had been sitting at the library computer for close to an hour now, just staring at the half written…piece of garbage that was on her screen. It wasn’t coming out right at all…and she had been so careful with all of her planning, making sure she knew which way she wanted the story to go…but nothing was happening like she had planned. The words weren’t being written, they wouldn’t….they wouldn’t get out of her head and fill up the blank pages on the computer.
It was times like this that she wished she was a Doll, or at least part Doll so maybe she could just…think the book into being…that would be cool…but…
With a sigh, Cider adjusted her glasses and slumped in the chair, twiddling her fingers as she thought about what to do. Maybe…maybe now wasn’t the right time to write a book. Maybe she should wait a while…she wasn’t even done school yet…she didn’t have to be…a writing prodigy, she just…
…she had to do what made her happy.
Quietly, the hybrid saved what work she had started and made her way outside, taking a long walk and sitting in the sun for a few minutes, just thinking. It didn’t matter if she pleased anyone other than herself. This was something that she was doing for her, not anyone else…so long as she was happy with where the story went…that was what mattered.
When Cider felt good enough to try again, she slowly made her way back to the computer in the library and settled back into the seat, pulling her files up. Drawing in a deep breath, she began to type again, though this time instead of being stuck with nothing, the words seemed to flow, writing about the characters and settings and ideas that she had fallen in love with in the past weeks…it was wonderful.
In no time at all she had the first chapter written, and as she read through it, eyes flicking back and forth across the screen, she felt a large sense of pride well up inside of her. This was…an amazing thing she had done…and if others didn’t think so, she did. She very much thought so…and she was sure that her mothers would think so too, especially Pear, Pear would be so proud….so now she just had to write the other chapters…and then figure out how to get such a thing published. But…that was another obstacle to face…for what publishing company would be interested in a book that a junior at the Academy had written? It was almost laughable…but…
This was her passion. And it didn’t matter what others thought.
