It was what Polaris herself would have done, she knew it, and so maybe she was trying to do it for their absent princess? In the hopes that when she returned, not if but when, they would all be there already working together and knowing each other and having bonded through various trials and tribulations as well as activities.
This really wasn’t like her...at least not the old Delphi. She had cared about her wonder - of course. But wanting to branch out and make friends and be social - never. That was something which had snuck up on her, though she knew it had started when she’d met Hyperborea at the wedding. She hadn’t been able to deny the other anything...even friendship. The other was just so young and small, the other being stronger didn’t even matter to Delphi, the other was a child...and she felt a want to be something of an older sister to her. She wanted to care for her, it also helped that the other cared as much for her wonder as Delphi did for hers.
Since then she’d branched out, slowly but surely, and now she was looking to reach out and take hold of another knight of Polaris….she just needed to find him. She’d met him before but hadn’t seen him since - time to change it.
Ignoring the fact that she might break a heel or an ankle, either one very likely, she was jumping rooftop to rooftop as she made a patrol of the city. Having already dusted a youma, she had beaten it with her scepter, she was hoping to find Alphubel. She just didn’t know where to look, and the city was rather large, she just had to cross her fingers and hope he was out tonight and that he would be in her general area - damn it. The odds were not in her favor.
For his part, Alphubel was looking at the stars on one of the rooftops. Unfortunately, while in the city, it was a bit harder to see how beautiful the night sky was with all of the lighting from the buildings, seriously did they need to have all of that all the time? But he had been distracted by one of the constellations popping up that he hadn’t seen for a while when he had distractedly looked up at the sky and could see the start of the constellation.
So, he would have been the perfect target to hit if any negaverse agent or Dark Mirror senshi decided to attack. So he could not detect Delphi’s aura, even though it was so powerful. It seemed that being distracted easily was genetic considering how often it happened to his brother. Though if he hadn’t been distracted by the constellation he would have been distracted by thoughts of his brother anyway and his guilt of wanting to visit his wonder more, starting to feel more of a connection to it than his own family.
He really needed to go back and visit them at some point. Perhaps he would call his parents and ask if they could buy a ticket for him to visit, after all, there were still a couple more weeks of summer vacation to go.
While he was star gazing, which really was a nice and peaceful thing to do, Delphi had not only picked up on the knight's aura but had made her way towards it. When she was close enough to see who it was she smiled - there he was! Making her way closer, hoping to keep as silent as possible, the Polaris knight waited till she was closer before taking off her hat...and throwing it! Aimed right for the other she waited to see what would happen.
“You aren’t busy - are you?” She asked, shifting her weight and watching him. She didn’t feel sorry for throwing her hat at him, rather she was grinning at him, oh she wanted to drag him off somewhere and talk and get to know him. They were both Polaris knights after all. Maybe take him up to Polaris! She did love her wonder, she was a transcended so that was a thing.So went there every week at least once, to clean and just walk and enjoy the feel of her wonder and the connection there - it was comforting and safe.
Alphubel was so out of it that when the hat hit him he jumped in surprise, letting out a startled squeak and trying to figure out what had happened. Once his brain was finally able to register what was going on, he looked around to see… Delphi? The transcended knight he had gone on that Wonder trip with to help Sutai! He blushed a bit at being caught so unawares.
“Delphi! I uh… no I wasn’t busy.” He stuttered out a bit. He smiled knowing she hadn’t met anything by throwing her hat. He picked it up for her, intending to give it back. “It’s good to see you again! You on patrol too tonight?” He asked, curious as to why she was here, though he wouldn’t be surprised if she was just patrolling. “I was… a bit distracted, though you know that.” He gave her an embarrassed smile.
“I can tell, though you seemed miles away.” She stated while looking down at the other. Reaching to take her hat from the other, smile in place to make sure he knew she hadn’t meant anything by it. “That and looking for you. I wanted to catch up and see how you are doing. Without our princess here to unite us and keep us together and in contact I thought I’d take the matter into my own hands.”
And she would try and find the others. She knew there were others out there, ones she hadn’t met or seen, but she was sure of that. She just needed to find them and talk to them - gather them together. She wouldn’t be holding any slumber parties or anything but she did want to get them together, visit wonders, help with the wonders others had, and get them working together.
If their princess returned to them it would be nice if they were some unified, and somewhat friendly and close, group which she could be proud of.
“We can patrol together and talk.”
Alphubel felt a bit happy that the knight had come to see him. He was glad that he was a Polaris knight, it seemed that they were at least a nice group, at least the ones he had met so far. And they were all willing to help each other out. “That sounds good. It would be much easier to go on patrol and stuff if we had a few reliable allies we could do it with, though I’m sure that there are plenty of other good knights.” He had met some himself. “Just that, you always feel a bit closer to those who are part of your own group, you know?”
He perked up at her idea. “That would be great! I don’t really know if I’ve been patrolling that well since no one has really taught me, so doing it with someone else, even for a bit, would be great!” And someone who was more experienced than him too! He was glad for all of the help he could get!
“There are other good knights. I’ll introduce you to one of them soon - a Cosmos knight. She’s a good deal younger than us, she’s still in her mid teens, but she is already a transcended knight. Hyperboria is a knight of Cosmos with a wonder….it’s the opposite of ours. A spa with warm water and a very lovely place. It is as opposite to our home as can be but just was appealing visually.” Because nothing beat Polaris in terms of looks. Cold as it was the planet, or star really, was amazing. In it’s cold and frosty glory. It was the same attraction, and magical quality, which people found in silently falling snow that Delphi found at Polaris.
“I know what you mean. It’s why I want to find as many Polaris knights as I can and bring us together. We can aid each other in improving our wonders, any exploration of them, and anything else we might seek to do up there. Our princess may be absent, at the moment, but I’d like to think we can surprise her when she returns from wherever she is. We can be a team - united...and be working to accomplish things up on Polaris. For ourselves and her...as well as future generations of Polaris knights.”
Laughing softly she felt a smile forming across her lips. Reaching out to place a hand on his shoulder. “Patrolling is done well so long as you return home at the end -safe and sound. That’s how I figure it at this point. A few minor injuries are acceptable. But if you end the night in good health - it’s a good patrol. It can be better by stopping a Negaverse agent, a corrupted senshi, a youma...or saving a person. But it’s not needed.” The important thing was for them to survive and do well. She had learned that by watching others, by seeing others get hurt. She had decided that her health, her ability to live in order to work on her wonder, was most important. She had to think of the future generations and what she could leave behind for them.
“Come on, let’s go. It’s an early night still.” And wait till winter and he found out how good his uniform was, as much of a nightmare as it was in summer it was a blessing in winter.
“Great! And really, thanks for doing this all for me. I mean usually it’s not hard for me to meet new people but… being powered up tends to change my interactions with others a bit. A lot more is at stake if I somehow don’t make a good impression on others, and I seem to be tense all of the time which makes it worse. But I really do want to learn and meet other knights and possibly go to their wonders! As much as I like Polaris, it would be interesting to see what other people have. After all, it’s really amazing how these celestial objects are so different than what scientists have been able to figure out so far.” It had been a bit surprising to him though, that he would be a knight of such a cold planet when he himself preferred the warmth.
He did wonder though if he would ever meet their princess. Clearly something was going on with her, though that meant that royalty was probably very busy. But he didn’t expect to see her soon at all, if ever.
He smiled a bit as she laughed and helped him relax a bit more. He couldn’t help it and wished that he could be different. Considering he had more strength and speed than regular humans while powered up, one would think it would give him a boost of self-confidence, but instead the opposite had happened and he had instead created a shell that he often retreated into. Sure, he regularly followed the orders of others, but he tended not to be THIS shy at the same time! He would have to do something about this, at least something to build his self-confidence while powered. A regular patrol partner might help and not running into the enemy and possibly getting killed.
However, he nodded and followed her, glad that someone was out here and patrolling with him tonight. It was one more night he wouldn’t have to, or feel all alone while doing this.
