Fav. Food: All of it. Simply eating is nothing short of a miracle. Julian doesn’t discriminate against any food in particular. He’ll eat anything you put in front of him, and very gratefully.

Hated Food: None. Unless it’s rotten/moldy/spat on, etc, he very likely won’t turn it down.

Hobbies:

Cooking - Since Julian loves to eat, it would make sense that he would love cooking as well. He’s somewhat gifted when it comes to cooking, sometimes able to create flavor combinations from scratch based on intuition, or sometimes modifying a recipe to suit what he believes someone else might like. He can’t always find what he wants to eat readily made in a store, so he’ll buy the ingredients and whip it up himself. Julian loves baking in particular, but knows one can’t sustain themselves in a healthy way on baked goods alone (as much as they might like to). Therefore, he tries to learn a little bit of everything.

Piano - Clumsy would be the best way to describe his playing, but Julian loves the sound of the piano. It’s a great mental challenge for him to learn to read and play music. He learned to appreciate classical music from listening to CDs and finding a well-loved piano on which to experiment. He takes up beginning books and YouTube tutorials to get started, and practices every day from there. Clumsy or not, it’s a very good hobby to keep his mind and fingers occupied. He doesn’t have aspirations for being a concert pianist, just to become good enough to not torture anyone’s ears.

Reading - Julian is a voracious reader - there isn’t much that will cause him to turn a book down (but there are always exceptions - like certain dark subject matter that remind him too much of being a youma, or poor writing as examples). Magazines like Good Housekeeping or Electronic Gaming Monthly or even Muscle Cars are fine, even if the subject matter isn’t of particular relevance to him. He loves cooking books, books on skills he doesn’t have (like fishing or carpentry), fictional tales of high fantasy and adventure, and self-help and psychology books. He doesn’t have much money, so his collection consists of whatever he can borrow from the library or from friends.


Virtues:

Appreciative - Everything from a simple sunrise to a free lunch to getting a new shirt or a bus ticket, Julian is incredibly appreciative. He will go out of his way to profusely thank the person who gave him something, or will comment reverently on things that most people take for granted. Waking up in the morning, a roof over his head, daylight, the warm sensation of a sweater fresh from the dryer. It could be easy to misconstrue this appreciative nature for a reverence for god (or some other kind of reverence), but it’s simply that Julian appreciates even the smallest things that make human life what it is. He has something to compare it to.

Humble - Arrogant, he is not. Julian doesn’t think ridiculously highly of himself or his accomplishments and tends to downplay their skill or significance. It’s not that he harbors a great deal of self-hatred, it’s more that he doesn’t think of himself and better than or greater than anyone else. Really, he’s just happy to help. Whether it’s food he’s prepared or a task he’s completed for you, it’s really no big deal. He tends not to take extreme compliments well and doesn’t enjoy the spotlight. He’s more than happy to support you from the sidelines.

Friendly - Julian generally likes people and is open to meeting new ones or catching up with old friends. He’s generally of agreeable disposition when it comes to meeting people, and will happily help if asked. He’d love to talk to you about your day, your latest hobby, or what you did over the weekend. In powered form, he enjoys meeting new people and working with them for the greater good. Generally speaking, Julian is pleasant to be around.


Flaws:

Guilt-ridden - Nothing could prepare Julian for the guilt he would feel after becoming aware of just what youma are capable of. As a youma, he had neither recognition nor care regarding devouring small families or killing for amusement. Youma psychology prevented him from feeling guilt, and while his memory of being a youma is spotty, Julian is acutely aware he very likely destroyed many families and probably killed senshi and knights at some point. He feels incredible, overwhelming guilt for what he doesn’t fully remember doing. He’s been known to cry and apologize over comments about Chaos being killers, youma being mindless murderers, even news stories regarding a youma attack. He knows he was part of that, and works tirelessly to repent.

Overworked - Julian tends to work himself to the bone and just a little bit further. In his mind, he has years’ worth of repentance to simply break even for all the sin he’s committed in his previous life. Without really understanding his emotional and physical limitations, he has a tendency to drive himself to exhaustion, illness or injury. He would attempt to patrol from dusk until dawn and then clean a whole house, or cook all day to make sure you have plenty to eat, donate blood and then work long hours at a homeless shelter. The overwhelming need to repent drives him to his limits.

Emotional - The lifted restrictions of youma psychology also enables more emotional depth. Without having learned effective coping mechanisms other than avoidance in his previous life as a human, Julian is unable to easily stem the flow of major emotions like sadness and anger and deal with them effectively. Julian cries easily, gets frustrated easily, and this can make him appear to be an emotionally unstable sort of man (or immature, or possibly impaired in some capacity). He displays emotion very openly, much more so than the stereotypical expectations of a male.



Not part of his personality, but a psychological feature that will disappear over an extended period of time:
Having youma psychology removed, Julian tends to stumble over his words, forget the names of things, or stutter. His ability to process information from Point A to Point B is much slower than it should be for someone of his age. Youma psychology is deceptively simple, and being a youma for nearly four-and-a-half years, Julian became accustomed to its simplicity. It may appear as though he has some kind of mental or developmental issue, when in reality, he’s still struggling with the psychological freedom of being a human.
