Who: Oliver, Laurel, Sven
When: Late August
Where: A phone call which precedes meeting up at a park
Weather: Lovely weather for a stroll and a chat; Not terribly humid

It seemed like another do-nothing summer day in the Kipling household. Laurel had already finished his share of the chores for the day and now found himself laying against the counter, his hand the only thing stopping his head from plopping against the cold, laminate surface. Boredom had already swept into his eyes, lingering there like a foreboding cloud, and try as he might to reason with himself, there just wasn't anything he wanted to do. He didn't want to swim, he didn't want to play video games, heck, he didn't even want to go outside for a walk... What was a Raevan to do at a time like this?

Eventually, he hovered limply over to Oliver, who seemed rather focused on his laptop, and flopped unceremoniously against him. Grunting, he pushed the blond's shoulder.

"Daaad, I'm bored." He whined. "Let's go do something..."

"You've finished your chores?" Oliver asked, giving the Raevan a playful nudge in response.

"Mhm."

"Then I suppose we could find something to do." Oliver replied, tapping his laptop idly. "... You know, there was an e-mail I saw from Lab today. Something about updating the callsheets. Let me see..."

He fiddled around a moment and leaned to the side as Laurel pulled himself onto his hands to watch him and eventually found the e-mail he'd been looking for. Sure enough, there had been three new guardians added to the list, one of which was a very recent addition. Pursing his lips, he looked to Laurel.

"Laurel, remember when we met Cruz and Anita back in November?" He asked.

"Uh... Yeah, why?"

"Well, they came over because I was listed on a callsheet that the Lab keeps of all the guardians." Oliver explained, picking the phone up from the side table. "I think I'm going to give the newest guardian here a call and see if they have any questions. You know, just to reach out."

"And then we can do something?" Laurel pressed.

"Yes, or, maybe we could go meet this new guardian." Oliver suggested, dialing the number. "You never know, they could be just as bored as you are."

Sven wasn't bored, per se, but he certainly was overwhelmed. His laptop, the formidable foe, rested before him, seemingly taking up most of the desk in the sheer mental space it consumed. Sven nibbled on his lower lip, fingers halted over the keys as he eyed the current tab open. 23 tabs; that's how many he had pulled up currently. Each of them lacked an answer, instead offering more questions in their stead. Nothing fit. The bottle in his pocket was still empty, and empty it would remain until Sven conquered this hurtle.

Would he just know when he found the right soul? He hoped so. A part of him wondered how on earth other guardians chose, but his meeting with Nina had arisen a new option he hadn't considered; not all soul captures were intentional. His tongue clicked against the roof of his mouth, head canting to the side as his finger summoned a new tab up. No, hematite didn't sit well with him either. It wasn't him. He closed out the tab, leaning back in his chair with a heavy sigh as his head tilted backwards. One day, surely, he'd find the answer, but that day wasn't today.

His phone let out a loud, musical series of chimes, alerting him aptly. He flipped it free from his pockets, checking the number quickly. He didn't know this one, but that'd been happening more often lately. Ever since he was added to the Lab it seemed members of the project had begun reaching out to him, which was nice. Having the chance to meet the other guardians always helped settle his nerves for some time.

Pressing the accept button, Sven leaned back against his chair again, clearing his throat.

"Sven Beyer speaking." His tone was soft, hinting at a warm edge as he gratefully closed his laptop with one hand.

Oliver, while waiting for Sven to pick up, had gotten into a brief nudging contest with Laurel and won decisively by tugging the red-head toward his side and fluffing his hair. With his son defeated and now lazily flopped over the back of the couch, the professor happily chimed his response.

"Ah, hello Sven!" He said, looking to Laurel as the Raevan turned to stare. "My name is Oliver Kipling and I'm calling because your name was listed on an updated callsheet from Lab 305! Congratulations on becoming an official guardian!"

"Official?" Laurel muttered, drifting closer to Oliver again. "Does that mean they have a Raevan?"

"Just a minute, Laurel." Oliver quipped, tapping Laurel on the nose before returning to the phone. "But congratulations aside, I thought I would give you a call just to see if you had any questions! How recent was your approval?"

Aaaah, the voice sounded familiar. They must have been someone he met at the last Lab event, most likely. Sven swirled his chair around, scooting it to the small stand by the office door, pulling out the call sheet. Oliver Kipling and Laurel, they were right there.

"Ah, thank you." Sven chuckled into the receiver, bracing the phone against his shoulder as he tucked the call sheet back into the drawer. "I just received the suitcase a...." He trailed off, eyes flicking up as he mentally counted. "Three or four days ago? That sounds about right!" Habitually, one of his hands slipped into his cardigan, finger brushing across the glass, a small smile breaching his features.

He let out a thoughtful hum, inhaling sharply as he scooted back to his desk. "Actually, yes! I do have a few questions, if you're free? I know about catching a soul and such, but I have little experience for caring for a Raevan once they're here. It'd be nice to be debriefed." He had heard a voice in the background, was that perhaps Oliver's Raevan? A nervous jolt snapped through him, manifesting into a slight shiver. This was really happening.

Wow, three to four days ago? Sven was very new to Lab, wasn't he? Oliver smiled at this, briefly recalling how nervous and excited he'd been when he first got his soul bottle and essence, and glanced over to Laurel again. The Raevan was watching intently, his brows raised and arched, and wiggled as Oliver gave him a quick pat on the head. Hopefully he could be patient just a moment longer.

"Well, you're very new then! I remember what that was like!" He cheered, grinning and nodding. "Absolutely! Laurel and I were just thinking about heading out for the day when I decided to call. We've got nothing planned, where do you think would be best to me-"

"Literally anywhere would be better than this." Laurel interrupted, laughing as Oliver shot him a look. "What? It's so nice outside! I don't want to stay here forever."

"We won't be staying here forever, Laurel." Oliver said.

"I know, but it just feels like we are because you're still talking on the phoooone..." Laurel groaned, flopping against the couch. "I'm so bored I'm gonna diiiie..."

"Oh, stop being so dramatic." Oliver chuckled.

Sven couldn't help his own chuckle as he heard the decent complaining. He pressed the phone to his ear with his shoulder, standing from his chair to wander off towards his shoes.

"If you're headed out perhaps we could meet at a park, maybe?" He didn't want to intrude, but if they didn't have plans and whoever else was on the other side wanted an evening out, well, that seemed the best idea. Besides, Sven needed to get outdoors more as it was.

"I need to stop by Durem later this evening, so maybe one of the parks there?" Bass'ken Lake wasn't too far, but it was a decent drive. "I'll be up there in around..... two hours or so, if that works?" Shoes situated on feet, Sven pried the phone from his shoulder, holding it in one hand as he pulled his coat off the rack.

"A park would be wonderful!" Oliver replied, making a face as Laurel nudged him again. If he weren't on the phone right now, this would be cause for an immediate pillow fight. He rolled his eyes and checked his watch. All the way to Durem? Well, they could meet up with Devin afterward for dinner and be home before late. He nodded and smiled.

"That sounds great! Hopefully traffic won't be too bad and we'll be able to find each other." He said, pausing to think a moment. "I think there's a park across from a bookstore I've been to there, but I'm not quite sure. Would it be alright to call you just in case we have trouble?"

"I've been to that bookstore!" Laurel chimed, reaching out for the phone, only to be nudged back by Oliver. "It's uh... I met Sho there! Remember I told you about Sho?"

"Laurel, please." Oliver hushed.

"Ugh, okay." Laurel grumbled.

Sven laughed pleasantly, tugging his jacket closed as he nudged the front door open.

"Of course, feel free to call." With that, he took a minute to lock his door and check that nothing had been left at his door, a free hand checking his pockets for the soul bottle out of habit. Still there. Good.

"Alright, I'm heading out but I'll see you soon!" Phone calls were never something he immensely enjoyed, but perhaps something about the Lab made it easier at the moment. Knowing that he was setting up his future life with his child and those within the project that created her left him, for the most part, capable of human speech. Still, he was feeling the rapidly approaching sensation of phone panic, a feeling he had affectionately named himself. Awkwardly, he cleared his throat, laughing softly. He needed to relax!

"Oh before I go; I'm wearing a green jacket and I have grey.... wait... is that- yes, grey pants on. I should be easy to spot."

Laurel had all but thrown himself out the front door as soon as Oliver was ready to go. Finally, it was time to get out of this house and, hopefully, have a fun time meeting this new guardian! However, in case the meeting turned out to be just as boring, the cheetah was more than prepared to sneak his way into the bookstore. Books, as simple as they were, never bored him.

"I don't see him, dad." Laurel said, hovering over a bench and peering out into town. "You sure he's coming?"

"We've only been here five minutes. Have some patience." Oliver replied. "I'm sure he'll be here soon."

"Ugggghhh..." Laurel groaned, allowing his hands to slide down over the front of the bench and his head to slump against Oliver. "I'm so bor-"

"Don't be starting that nonsense again, Laurel." Oliver quipped, tapping Laurel's nose. "Or it'll be a swift dip in the pond over there for you."

"You wouldn't dare!" Laurel yelped.

Sven was grateful for phones as he approached the park, tucking the device neatly into his coat. He wasn't the worst at directions, but it made the process far quicker; now all he had to do was locate the two he was supposed to be meeting. It shouldn't be difficult, honestly, if Oliver's raevan looked anything like Shoshana had. A torso with a ribbon was more then distinctive enough!

And he was right, for the second he actually began to turn the corner he spotted two figures on a bench. His steps sped up as he perked, a hand raising into the air to wave at the two.

"Hello," He called gently, hand lowering to brush a long strand of blonde hair from his face as his eyes landed on the cat-like raevan. Neat, they must be Laurel!

The sound of Sven's voice raised Laurel from his awkward perch upon Oliver's shoulders and brought a thoughtful, somewhat awed expression to his face. Whoa, wait, this was Sven? He looked like he could be Oliver's brother, at least at first glance! He blinked twice and, with a curious tilt, hovered toward Sven.

"Hi! Are you Sven?" He asked, leaning closer to the other man. His hair was so long! How on earth did he keep it so clean and shiny? Laurel held his hands just a little away from his body, every ounce of his self-control being employed to keep them there and not attached to that ever enticing pony tail.

"Ah! Glad to see you made it!" Oliver announced, quickly hopping up from the bench and moving to place a careful arm around Laurel. He gave a the red-head a gentle nudge of reprimand and suppressed a chuckle as he looked over Sven. Though he could see why Laurel was so curious, he doubted that Sven would be okay with his hair being touched.

After releasing his hold on Laurel, he extended the same hand out to shake.

"I'm Oliver, and-" He paused, patting Laurel on the back. "This is Laurel!"

"Ah, yeah!" Laurel laughed, smoothing his hair back and taking a breath. He always forgot to introduce himself. That was kind of important, wasn't it? "I'm Laurel, nice to meet you!"

The expression on the raven was an interesting one, as if Sven somehow was the impressive one. The man sent a warm smile back to the cat, nodding reflectively. "I am," he chuckled, a light and airy sound. His attention directed sharply to the man — Oliver, if he remembered correctly. The hand offered was scooped up firmly and given a solid shake. He could almost hear the bitter hiss of his mother reminding him what a shake ought to be. If anything, her lectures had taught him how to introduce himself.

"I hope I didn't keep you two waiting for long? Did you get here okay?"

"Not at all!" Oliver exclaimed, smiling broadly. "We've only just got here and sat down. The ride went well, but someone-" He nudged Laurel playfully. "-Was very anxious to get moving! Weren't you?"

"I wasn't anxious!" Laurel retorted, sticking his nose in the air and huffing. "I was bored, that's totally different!" He paused, his ears pinning back a bit. "You act like I was clawing at the window or something, sheesh."

"Ha! But you were practically glued to yours the whole way!" Oliver laughed, shaking his head. "Nevermind, you're happier now that we've arrived and found Sven, aren't you?"

"Mm! Definitely." Laurel agreed, nodding and turning to Sven again. "... Sorry if this is weird to say, but I really really like your hair. How to you get it to be so pretty?"

A fond chuckle left Sven as he ran a finger through a few strands of hair, watching the familial display. His eyes flicked to Laurel's as attention was drawn to the german, his mouth twitching into a surprised smile as his hands left his hair consciously, only to return to help him examine his own locks.

"You know, I've received that question a fair bit. I use an elven shampoo and conditioner, perhaps that's it?" He cheeks heated slightly as he almost mentioned it was imported. There weren't many fancy things Sven did, but this was absolutely one of them.....

"What do you do to yours? It looks rather soft." He deflected his poor people skills with a ready question. Sven shifted, realization hitting him. "Oh, do we want to take a walk around the park? Go somewhere?"

Elven shampoo and conditioner? Laurel's eyes flickered wide with curiosity. He'd never heard of that before! In fact, the word elven itself was a curiosity. It sounded similar to the word eleven, but the idea of using eleven different shampoos and conditioners on your hair seemed a little much. ... However, maybe Sven figured out a way to manage it? He pursed his lips in thought, only for them to part into o-shape and bring a hand to his head.

"Uhhh, I use whatever my dad buys." He answered, running his hand over his head and ears before bringing his arm to his side again. "Buuut, sometimes I use my cousin's shampoo because it smells like trees."

"Laurel, that's body wash." Oliver chuckled.

"O-oh... Then why are the bottles so similar?" Laurel replied, a blush crossing his cheeks. Instead of dwelling on it further, though, he smiled eagerly at Sven. "Yeah, yeah! Let's get moving, I haven't been here in a while! There's a lot of cool things I saw on the drive and a bookstore!" He paused, tilting his head slightly to the side. "Do you like books, Sven?"
