Never forget what you are, for surely the world will not. Make it your strength. Then it can never be your weakness.
Armour yourself in it, and it will never be used to hurt you.

Westeros, a land with seven kingdoms ruled by one family for generations. Battles have been fought and won, lives lost in honor and tragedy, and the wheel keeps turning. The Iron Throne is what most seem to want, the Targaryans were stripped of it, the Baratheons claimed ownership of it, and nomble houses have tried to take it for themselves. While some seek to break the wheel, others want to keep it turning. With lies, deceit, and murder all around, who can be trusted in Westeros? Or across the sea, in Essos? Can anyone be trusted? Questions may be asked, but in the grander scheme of things, thinking without action will get you no where. This is a time when, as the Starks will always say, winter is coming.

Problems at home in Westeros are meaningless when the White Walkers, led by the Night King, make their way south past the Wall to claim the souls of the living and add them to the Army of the Dead. It has begun to be a war between those who are living and those who are dead....which side will you be on?

This story will be using the plot of the current Game of Thrones television series, rather than the books. All elements of the current seasons, 1 to 7, will be used and referenced throughout the story. Please note that there will be spoilers, to those who are watching the series. If you have not watched the series, to not fret, because you can still join in at any time and partake in this story as it unfolds.

The man who passes the sentence should swing the sword. If you would take a man's life, you owe it to him to look into his eyes and hear his final words.
And if you cannot bear to do that, then perhaps the man does not deserve to die.

Please message profiles to VSG12, with the title of "Bannermen Called To Aid". Be sure to include a wahmbulance icon as well, so I am sure you have read through the rules.

This story will use details of the series from season one through to the most recently released season, 7. If you are not caught up, it is not required, but know that spoilers are common ground here. If you are not familiar with the series, a link will assist you.

Considering the show and books that this show referrences, this is going to contain the subjects of violence, gratuitous death, sex scenes, and so on. If this is something you are uncomfortable with, please make this known and the players can tone it down in the main story, but know that it is something that will be occurring at any time.

Please be literate in this Role Play! I don't expect huge paragraphs or anything of that matter, but don't use one-liners. Also be sure to use the correct spelling, grammar, and other literary methods. Try and aim for at least 4-5 sentences per character, per post. If you would like to add more, that is perfectly fine, but there is no direct rule of thumb for amount of sentences.

Try and make your posts formal and keep details up to date. The easiest way to do this is through a banner for a character or a set of characters. There are many banners that can be used and maintained, but if you are lost, a link is here to guide you.

There is no limit to the amount of characters you can take, but try and use only as many as you can carry with ease. It is understandable that characters will go missing, or potentially die, but this is Game of Thrones, and anything is possible. Keep in mind that a turn of events might make your character unplayable, so don't think your character is out of peril.

Invite friends to this thread! Also, please try to post as often as you can, even if it's only one post a day. If you need to leave, please inform me as soon as you can, or even leave a post in the thread.

House Baratheon
Baratheon bannermen are determined warriors, fierce on the battlefield and fierce in their friendships. They are always ready to charge into an attack, even if they must ignore such trifling concerns as a proper defence. No one is finer with the weapons of war, and a line of loyal vassals can form a force as unyielding as a the rocks of Shipbreaker Bay. Should you make your way to the castle of Storm's End, you can feel the spells of protection built into the walls and the slumbering power that binds the stones. You revel in the honest work of open conflict: solid, gleaming steel in your hand, the snap of banners, and a war-cry in your throat. If any stand in your way, you will fell them like trees. You will unleash the pure clean rage of the storm. You will show them Ours is the Fury!

House Lannister
It is as much a threat as a promise for Lannisters to say that they always pay their debts. Fealty provides great returns, and loyalty is richly rewarded. Rebellion and insubordination is destroyed root and stem, as the Lion Hearts of Westerlands could attest if any were left alive. No one doubts Lannister subtlety, for this is the family whose ancestor Lann the Clever used only his wits to gain the stronghold of Casterly Rock and stole gold from the sun to adorn his hair. Loyal Lannister vassals know how to wield their hold to good effect. They cannot, perhaps, ever be quite as rich as a Lannister, but their liege lords do not begrudge the effort. Deep pockets full of gold, and the backing of a lion of the west, goes a long way to security among the merchants of the world - and in the shifting allegiances at count. Should you visit the dockside bazaar of Lannisport, you can haggle and trade, but you may end up with more than you bargained for - because nothing is without cost. You are unparalleled in running the engines of an economy, which serves you well in the purchase and sale of power. Your opponents will quake when you show them your teeth, when you shout Hear Me Roar.

House Greyjoy
Salt, steel and stone run in the veins of the Ironborn. Greyjoys live to fight, to sail, and to take what they want by force of arms. They are the line of the Grey King, who slew the sea dragon Nagga and made a hall from her bones. They preserve the ancient traditions, and their raiding is blessed by the Drowned God. Although their rebellion against the Iron Throne was quashed, the old words claim that what is dead can never die, but only rises again, stronger and harder. The Greyjoys will rise again and from the Seastone Chair to rule over rock and wave and coast. The Ironborn fight to the death for what is theirs by right and will carve their independence from the flesh of their enemies. They know the value of freedom, for each is rule absolute on their own ship. Like the Kraken sigil of the Greyjoys, the Ironborn are undisputed master of the seas, and stand as strong as the Kraken's arms. Should you search the waters for a wrecked ship cast asunder by the Storm God, you will see a fraction of the treasure that can be gained by an unforgiving will and blade in hand. You pay the iron price for your wealth, rather than the gold. You are remorseless as the tide, and the soft people of the greenlands are no match for your steel. From the longships you chant:
We are reavers! We are raiders! We Do Not Sow!

House Stark
The North is a cold and hard place, even in summer. It breeds cold and hard people, and the Starks are no exception. Mad King Aerys found the Starks as implacable as the harsh northern winters. Those raised in high snows know how to fight and how to survive. They know that you must stand with friends if you hope to stand at all. Stark vassals are recognised for unwavering loyalty, prowess in battle, and bafflement at the intrigues of the southern court. They are the descendants of the First Men and heir to those who built the great ice Wall that protects the realm. They hold with the Old Gods and the Old Ways. They know that the dangers beyond the Wall - direwolves, Wildling Raiders and worse - are more than just tall tales or distant memories. Should you visit the crypts of Winterfell, you'll see that the stone eyes of dead lords and kings still remember. You understand that even the brightest day will inevitably lead to the knife-sharp winter winds. Bone-deep chill is as familiar as your own family. Some may call you grim or pessimistic, but you know one truth better than anyone: Winter is Coming!

House Targaryen
The Targaryens are apart from Westeros. Above it. With violet eyes and silver hair, the kings and queens of old rode on dragons and set aflame all who opposed them. They wed brother to sister to keep the bloodline pure. Even when the dragons began to falter and magic seeped from the world, no one could doubt the past glory of the Targaryen family. They settled on the shore, and gave the mighty city of King's Landing its name. Some claim that the nobles in the Crownlands still sew banners and secretly maintain fealty to the rightful rulers. There is some truth to that. Targaryen vassals have near-infinite patience. They can endure the yoke of the usurper and kneel to false monarchs while working from the shadows to gather allies and send support to the rightful heirs. They know Westeros was only truly united under the reign of of the dragons, and that those who can survive the Doom of Valyria can survive anything. They will stay near the Iron Throne and raise their true banners when the time is right. Should you find your way beneath the Red Keep, you can discover the hidden passages that lead to the bones and teeth of ancient beasts that wait patiently for their true rulers. You know that there will be conflict and pain before Westeros is set right and unites once again. That is the price that must be paid. You look forward to the day that the Targaryens return to Westeros on the wings of dragons: the day of Fire and Blood.

House Tyrell
House Tyrell of Highgarden are the "Wardens of the South," and the overlords of The Reach - a land of infinite beauty, and seemingly endless summer. Flowers decorate the fields, which are the most fertile in all of Westeros. It is a land of plenty, to both nobles and smallfolk alike. It is a large and wealthy House - its wealth only surpassed by that of House Lannister. The greatest knights in the Realm are born and trained here - not just in combat, but in the ancient code of chivalry. But kindness and honor are only tools for the notorious shrewdness of House Tyrell. Its nobles and vassals are taught to use sweet words before scornful ones; and to obey a great lord, while perhaps secretly planning his demise. Changing alliances however it may serve them - no matter how the winds of change might shift in Westeros, House Tyrell will shift with them -- always Growing Strong!

House Martell
House Martell is one of the Great Houses of Westeros. It rules the peninsula of Dorne in the far south of the continent from their castle Sunspear. Though loyal to the Iron Throne, it has pursued a more isolated role in wider political events since Robert's Rebellion. Sunlight touches every inch of Dorne, and hot winds blow across the hotter sands. Here a woman or man may rule in their own right, and merchants from the Free Cities are welcomed. Despite all this beauty, the Martells still mourn for their princess, brutally murdered along with her children when the Baratheons took the Iron Throne. If you swear fealty to the Martells, you will learn to hide your sorrow behind charms and smiles. You will help rule Dorne in the name of King Robert as you contemplate revenge on his queen and her family. Despite the tragedies that have befallen your house, you will continue to stand proud beneath the sun. And when your spears are sharp enough, you will show the world you are truly Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken.

House Tully
House Tully are one of the Great Houses of Westeros. Lord Hoster Tully overseas the Riverlands from his seat of power in Riverrun. Due to its geographic position, surrounded on all sides by other Great Houses, House Tully has traditionally used diplomacy and marriage alliances to avoid costly wars. They are also in an excellent location to be a central trading hub. If you swear fealty to the Tullys, you will be at the core of all that happens. Your people will pay the price of every failed rebellion, every murderous king. In your lands, King Robert defeated Rhaegar at the Trident. In your lands, outlaws without banners take up arms to defend the innocent. Through it all, the Tullys will demand you stand strong, fight for justice, and live always by their words: Family, Duty, Honour.

House Arryn
House Arryn of the Eyrie are one of the Great Houses of Westeros and the overlords of the Vale. The current Lord is Robin Arryn who is the son of Jon Arryn and Lysa Tully. Due to its position in the mountains the Vale has long been thought of as unconquerable. In the words of those of the Vale, as high as honor.

Knight

Personality/Mannerism:
As Anestorra she is a sophisticated, graceful, eloquent, passionate, and driven woman of noble birth who is heir to a great house. She is a beauty to behold and is known to many as a Wintry Flower because her beauty never fades, even in darkest winter. She is an intelligent woman who knows how to hold herself in court; with a cunning mind able to see through lies and deceit, but a heart bright enough to not lead her astray. Passionate and affectionate, she has never been tied down. She has a great taste in literature and music to match a firm knowledge of trading, scheming, whispering, and the rules of war.

As Elan she poses as a male knight of the North. Formidable, ambitious, loyal, determined, and often losing 'himself' to the aggressive side of combat. A warrior who is a possibility of becoming the next Arther Dayne, the greatest swordsmen the world has seen. Calm in battle, Elan shows a great talent for analyzing a problem and coming to a conclusion before swinging 'his' sword. Keeping the two identities secret is something very dear to 'him', something so strong 'he' is willing to kill to protect it. 'He' would gladly die for friends and knows that there is a power deep down that can be used for great good, or great evil.

Background:
Anestorra is the only child of Ingrid and Rolfe Castellan, and was raised in grace and politics to be a fair noble in her own right. As she grew older, her father began to notice her eyes look to the training yard while she was studying with her mother. When her mother took ill, only to pass a short time later, Anestorra was trained by her father in the ways of the sword and bow. By the time she was 12, she showed immense promise as a warrior, but kept that a secret between her and her father. When he was sentenced to The Wall, because he did not behead deserters in Stonehelm Keep, she knew it was time for her to put down the sewing needle and fine dresses and put on armor to fight until her broken heart was fixed. Aunt Ingrid agreed to take over Stonehelm Keep until Anestorra returned. Ingrid knew that Anestorra was leaving, but did not know that it was to assume a male identity and serve as a male knight. Ingrid was under the impression that her neice merely needed time to heal in the presence of the Septa in King's Landing.

Knowing her holdings were secure in family hands, she took on the identity of Elan Varpen by the age of 14 and was a member of the Northern Army, being trained in Winterfell. As Elan, she was a fierce warrior that was taken seriously and seldom was seen without armor or training. As she got older, it began to be harder to keep her feminine figure a secret. Gaining a lot of muscle mass around her torso allowed her to pass off as male, as well as wearing baggy clothing out of her armor (and wrapping her upper chest under her tunics to keep her, rather small [B size] breasts from being apparent). As she grew older, with a new identity, wars were fought and won and lost.

Now in her early twenties, the time of great wars is here. Family duty still clings to the back of her mind, with the thought of marriage for love and children of her own something that "haunts her nightmares and plagues her dreams".

Grace Bolton

Background:
When you are enemies with everyone else in the house your wife belongs to, it isn’t a pretty sight. Luckily for Normand and his wife, the carnage that Ramsay brought to the rest of House Bolton left it in ruins. Rather than take her house from the ashes, Grace placed herself firmly in House Dredanjul and it’s part in the Bloody Compass. She was able to secure the alliance with Rykker Lochac, since she was a childhood friend of his when he was fostered in her home. Normand is envious of this and his constant flirtations with his wife, to the point they have drawn blades on one another. Freya and Anestorra are never impressed and calm the situations down.

As the Eastern Point of the Bloody Compass, he knows how important it is to secure his own alliances with those bannermen in The Vale because their joint might is important. He is known as the “Diplomat” of the Bloody Compass because of his tendency to prefer talking over violence. His truthful ways have secured much for the Compass over the years, from trade deals to new allies to silencing enemies without drawing blood. Normand prefers a more noble approach, but if it comes to war, he is relentless and will fight to the death. He is a strong and honorable warrior, but in the dark times, he will lower himself to mercenary ways. This reflects his past life; a mercenary who changed to be a noble of class and dignity. It took years for his family to reaccept him into their house and call him Lord of House Dredanjul. There are traces of cunning and whispering, which many hint at being the many interactions he has had with Littlefinger, Petyr Baelish, over time. Normand would never do the dispicable things Littlefinger has done, as his code of honor prevents him from doing so.

He is an expert swordsmen, war strategist, and he knows how to win the hearts of the men around him. As a soldier, he is one to be admired, and as an enemy he is one to fear. However, his temper gets him in trouble, as he is easy to anger and he acts without thinking. He also gets envious easily and can come across as brash and rude because he is very blunt with his honesty. His flirtations, although joking, towards his childhood friend Grace only cause rifts between himself and Normand. Background:
“Kissed by fire”, he is a red-headed and hot-tempered soldier of unmatched strength and loyalty. His adoptive mother, and the only mother he’s really ever known, always jokes that he must have had a wildling as a parent. Rykker looked into his past and found the truth, his mother was a wildling, but he keeps this secret. He is a knight loyal to House Tyrell, and with their demise, has changed alliances to House Targaryan. He still holds an honor-bound code to House Tyrell, and will defend the Reach and any in it from enemy forces so long as he lives. Despite his temper and tendency to react without thinking, his instinct to trusting or despising people he meets has been something that is a second sense. Those in the Bloody Compass trust his instinct, and he has been given the nickname of the “Guard Dog” amongst his comrades.

His protective nature and instincts have won many battles and gained many allies. It is a double-edged sword, because when he has feelings that someone is going to betray him or his friends, he will stalk them until they break or he has his answers. He is also a very intimidating person, so using him to get information is something the Bloody Compass takes advantage of.

Whisperer

Personality/Mannerism:
A seductive woman without even trying, it barely takes any effort for Fenris to get information she seeks. Sly, cunning, patient, and deadly with a knife, she can handle herself in any situation. With a mix of Dornish and Bravossi blood in her, she is an intelligent and challenging opponent to face but a powerful ally to have. Her connections and ability to gain information with ease are what make her intimidating. She holds deep resentment to the assassination of the Dornish rulers, at the hands of Lannisters and Baratheons years prior and in recent times. She knows how to play an act and trick people into dropping their guard without meaning to.

Background:
Freya was born into a noble house and lived in luxury and glory in Dorne. For her younger years, she listened to what people said around her and grew her spiderwebs out into the world before she was even fifteen. Her talent in spinning her webs and finding little birds got her a job of whispering, something she is good at. She knows how to play people, knowing how to act in certain situations. Her father was a rogue Faceless Man, who was killed for what he knew and for running, but he didn’t die before passing on his vital lessons to his daughter. She may not have a bag of faces she carries with her, but she knows how to survive and what it takes to outlast those who play the game of thrones. As the southern point of the Bloody Compass, she is a vital part of the group, acting as the “Informant”. She is closest to Anestorra, not because both are women, but because they have struggled their whole lives and earned the right to be who they are and no one else; one as a knight and one as a whisperer.
