Noah had fallen asleep and Al turned his phone off and proceeded to climb into bed to snuggle up with him, only dim moonlight entering their window as he shifted a little to get comfortable. He'd just closed his eyes, but couldn't really relax.
Something felt... off.

Flight was much much easier now he'd been practising it almost every single day, learning new tricks and efficient movements which helped him make his way around the island.
He felt like scoping out Al for dirt simply out of a vague sense of malice and so steered his tiny barn owl body up to perch on the windowsill of Al and Noah's room.
He peeked in, struggling against owl vision to see through a window which reflected a hundred distant tree movements and potential preys.

Al shifted from the covers after a few long moments of something feeling distinctly off and peered around the room. Nightlight - check, door - check, under the bed - check, closet - check, wind-OH. ABORT.
He flew back to the opposite side of the room at the eyes staring back at them through the window. It wasn't until his heart finally stopped trying to leap out through his throat that the shape of the creature became even remotely familiar.
He squinted and lowered his head, his night vision not the best, but it was definitely not a monster, of that he was sure. It was some sort of bird thing.
He approached the bed and reached over and gave Noah's shoulder a gentle shake. "Uh... Noah?"
He continued past Noah to the window for a closer look "Is that a...?" He could have sworn he read something about this on twitter. There was even a name for it, right?
"An owl?"

Noah groaned in quiet protest at being shaken. He was comfortable and warm, dammit. Except not as comfortable and warm as he could be, because Al was up. Why was Al up? He cracked an eye open and lifted himself up on his elbows to find out what was wrong.
The discovery of something at the window had him sitting up fast, suddenly and completely awake. "What is -- !!" An owl? But that was all wrong. "There aren't any animals here, they don't do well with the Fear saturation levels," he pointed out, still sitting up in bed and clutching the covers around him like a scandalized romance novel protagonist.

The movement inside was enough to make it possible to see the inhabitants of the room properly. When Al spotted him, he considered flying off again, before curiosity and sheer defiance meant that he didn't. Instead he fluffed his feathers at the other man.
"Tweetheart." the owl said in a strange voice.

Al had considered opening the window and even drew closer to it still at the strange voice. "Tweetheart? TWEETHEART. Yeah that's right - wait."
He stared at the creature, well aware that actual owls don't belong on Deus, or can talk for that matter. So it wasn't a normal owl, that much was abundantly clear.
"Uhhh what are you doing here, Tweetheart?" Was he some sort of visiting student? A Mini someone trained? He remembered it had been Mik who spoke extensively of the creature most of all, but he wasn't exactly an animal trainer savant last he checked.
Al turned his head and waved Noah over but was well aware the man was more likely to get dressed first while he himself - was lucky to be wearing a pair of boxers at all.

The owl was talking. Okay. That made about as much sense as there being an owl here at all. Noah slid out of the other side of the bed and grabbed a pair of sweatpants off the floor, slipping into them hastily. He didn't know why he actually cared. It was only an owl. A talking owl. Okay. Right. He was putting on pants before he was dealing with this, anyway.
Pants in place, he sidled over to the window, watching the owl in disbelief. "Are you -- are you a minipet?" he asked. He'd never heard of a minipet that talked, but that was more believable thn a normal owl talking somehow, not to mention a normal owl getting all the way out here onto the island somehow. What was the normal range of a barn owl, anyway? Did it extend far enough south for an owl to have gotten caught in some kind of storm and swept out here? Noah had no idea, and he wished he had a bird book to help him out.

The owl slowly tilted its head, the rest of its body staying still. He didn't answer Al's question, but instead just watched the other man silently. It was difficult to say anything honestly in this body, speech involving any number of different warring instincts being forcibly lined up.
He did however manage to answer Noah with a strange. "Tweetheart is tweetheart."
He felt anything but warm towards both of them, aware that they'd laid hands on his son as if he was little more than a commodity, and he'd had to hear about it because Mikael was a moron.

Al blinked at the creature. "Uh," he turned his gaze towards Noah. "Should I open the window or draw the shades?" Yup, this decision was on Noah now, because Al honestly wasn't sure which option they might regret more.

"Uh." The statement from the owl had done absolutely nothing to clear up what the owl was or what it was doing here, and Noah was still curious. "Open the window?" he hazarded, sounding uncertain about the decision. If they really had to, they could probably catch the owl with a blanket or something, but it seemed like it had some kind of intelligence and probably wouldn't freak out or anything.
He was awake now, anyway.

Tweetheart looked indignant at the idea of them closing the curtains, shifting his tiny weight from one set of claws to the other.
He was glad he had more self control now, even in this shape the medication dampening the desire to shift back out and attack the hunters in front of him. He wasn't sure what he wanted at the moment but for once curiosity was at the forefront over violence.

Nodding, Al went ahead and unclasped the window and opened it as wide as it could go. He was still very uncertain about this whole situation, but then again who wouldn't be? They were opening a window to a talking owl on an island where no animals could exist, at least not for long. It was all kinds of wrong, but they wouldn't figure any of this out without proceeding and the not knowing would have been worse, he hoped. "Are you lost?" He asked the bird, unsure if perhaps yes/no questions would have been easier for it to accomplish.

Noah fidgeted nervously and scooted back, both to give the owl space to enter the room and to pick up and pull on a shirt as well. Feeling exposed contributed extra nervousness to an already nervous situation; once he was more fully dressed he felt calmer, even if it was only an owl. A talking owl. Maybe he wouldn't have felt the urge to get dressed if the owl hadn't spoken to them. He didn't know. He turned his attention back to the owl. "Um. You can come in if you want to. Does it bother you to fly in rain?"

Lawrence hopped into the room and shook off his feathers.
"Not lost." he said in the strange voice that always came out of the bird form. It was always strange being indoors like this, everything felt claustraphobic and too still, the room seeming to fade away to a dead flatness in the scope of owl senses tuned to small movements in grass and great distances.
It stretched its wings out daintily one at a time.
"Don't like rain." it said calmly to Noah.
It was difficult to spot something worth stealing, something that might distress them both enough to get some minor vengeance because to an owl everything other than fur trim on coats looked so boring. He had to fight it, checking out the room as best he could.

The room itself appeared to be messy, but manageable. About two sets of clothing crumpled on the floor by the disheveled bed with a few too many pillows and comforters for a tropical island, there was also a pair of stuffed animals mixed in with the pillows, one a rabbit and the other a cat. A desk with some papers and pens but it did not appear that anyone was actively doing work on it tonight, beside it was a small bookshelf with several books on plants, insects, and reptiles. There was also some sheet music, comic books, and fantasy novels that appeared to be worn on their covers from heavy use. There was a violin case leaning against the side of the bookshelf. Each side of the bed had a nightstand with a phone charging, the one on Noah's side had what appeared to be a blue nightlight in the shape of potted mushrooms, while Al's had a statue of a dragon. There was also a large pelt on the floor from some large animal, most likely polar bear in nature. Al gave the creature a puzzled look as it finally confirmed it was not lost, but rather probably came to escape the rain. He walked over to a hamper and tried to look for the last towel he tossed hoping it was clean and dry enough for the owl to dry off and get comfortable. "Are you someone's pet?"
