There were plenty of places Remarque would rather be than in a strange castle with a Queen of dubious motives, but all things considered it was still better than being torn apart in Mirrorspace.
Still, home would have been nice.
Remarque had always been more of a realist than anything else, and right now his mind was telling him that this could go either way. Realistically, they’d all wanted to know more about Mirrorspace. They’d all wanted answers. They’d wanted to get into space and learn more about it.
They wanted to know things.
And now, by some means, they had accessed this Castle, and Altea.
They weren’t going to get the answers without working for them, but Remarque wasn’t going to go into this unprepared and on a different wavelength than the rest of the Court. So, he figured the smartest thing to do was see what page everyone else was on.
Including, and perhaps especially, Leto.
She had been easy enough to find; he had been going down the hallway one way and she the other, so when they were close enough he just cleared his throat.
“We should talk.”
He nodded towards a door close to her; it was unlocked and empty, though he only knew that because he’d already snooped around a few rooms in the area.
“Unless you’ve got something more exciting planned?”

This was basically the single worst thing that had ever happened to Leto. Whether that was a tad over-dramatic was left to be decided... As she paced up and down the hallway outside of all of the bedroom doors, all that she could think about was how absolutely terrible this entire situation was. Leto needed to get out of this castle and far, far away from this strange planet that they were on. But in the mean time, she would pace- and make sure that if anyone left their room that they were safe because if they were gonna be stuck here, the least she could do was ensure that the Court remained safe and sound. Her hands nervously clamped behind her back, the heels of her boots clicking along the dark marble floors as she walked. When she turned to walk back in the other direction, she came face to face with Remarque. She stopped initially, made a face at him (one that screamed 'what the ********'- or so she imagined it did), and then continued to walk in his direction, stopping again when he cleared his throat. She sighed heavily and nodded, opening the door next to her. "Your girl is here with you, mine on the other hand is on another planet, or in another ******** galaxy or something. If anything, you'd be the one with more exciting plans." Leto couldn't help but grin at Remarque as she stepped backwards into the room. Unfortunately, the jesting was cut short. "I don't like this one bit," she said simply as she glanced behind him to make sure no one was following them or trying to listen in to their conversation. She huffed and crossed her arms. "We need to figure out how to get the ******** out of here."

“Oh, I have my plans,” Remarque assured. He moved into the room and waited for her to do the same before closing the door behind them. “I take it you’ve already tried to contact her with your compact? I got reception to Lesath, but she was a few doors down from me. I haven’t gotten in contact with anyone that isn’t here, but I was sort of hoping you’d have had better luck.”
He supposed none of them were feeling particularly lucky right now.
“I take it Ares never mentioned anything she found in the Mirror that would be of use right now?”
Remarque wasn’t Ares’ biggest fan by far; he was grateful to her only for introducing him to the Court but he credited her with little else. He had no relationship with her and had seen her so few times that she was still mostly an enigma to him.
But Leto knew her, Leto admired her.
Maybe Ares had trusted her with more information than she’d shared with the rest of the Court.

At least Remarque could have a sense of humor in this place, Leto mused as she laughed quietly at his assurance of his plans. A tiny part of her was jealous, and it infuriated her that she couldn't get home to Persephone... But there was nothing she could do about it, and there was definitely nothing Rem could do about it so for once, she just chose not to take her anger out on him. She shook her head and frowned at his question, "No, no response with my compact. It's really ******** frustrating." She moved past him into the room so he could close the door. They were stuck here, and had no way to reach anyone back home. Thank ******** god that Damocles and Persephone had chosen not to answer MirrorSpace's strange call, so someone was home with the children. Unlike big dumby Leto who always had to go running when something happened... She was lucky that her partners were understanding, but that didn't make her feel any less guilty about disappearing for who knows how long. The mention of Ares brought Leto back to the here-and-now, and it automatically put her on the defensive. She knew very well how Remarque felt about Ares, and she was fully aware of the fact that most of the Court either didn't know who she was or didn't care. If she did ever disclose any information to Leto, maybe the Senshi of Camouflage would want to keep that to herself. She stared at Remarque for a few silent beats, her arms crossed over her chest. She'd like to think that Ares trusted her more than she did anyone else, but alas, there was nothing she knew that Remarque didn't. Finally, she conceded and had to remind herself that Remarque meant no disrespect when it came to Ares or how Leto felt about her. He'd be stupid not to ask Leto if she knew anything, even if she felt a tiny bit betrayed that he would wonder if she kept secrets from him and the Court. "She never mentioned anything. I know she went into the Black Mirror to find a way to bring us home, but she never came back and I haven't heard from her since. I'd be lying if I said I didn't consider that this was it. That she was here somewhere and this is how we get to space. But," she shrugged her small shoulders. "I'd like to think if she was here, that she'd at least come to me." She always hoped that Ares would come back to her, and that was no secret.

Remarque released a long sigh an nodded; truthfully, if Ares had been involved in this, he figured she’d have made herself known. At least, to her Court. But Leto knew her better than he; her time with Ares meant that she might have better witnessed her tactics and known what to expect if Ares was involved.
Remarque was neither surprised nor hurt at the idea that she might not be here.
“Home, though. She always did say that. Did you ever wonder what it would be like to be away from home? For us, I mean. Earth has been and always will be my home. I know it isn’t quite, for her, but. I don’t know if I would have wanted to leave to go anywhere if I had to leave Earth forever.” He shrugged again, figuring that was a good ending point for that train of thought.
“It’s been a long time though, hasn’t it?”
He wasn’t rubbing it in, it was just that he didn’t ever really give Ares much thought. It had been years since they’d found this power on their own, and longer since she departed. “Maybe she’s onto something. Or, maybe she found her way back home.”
Leto wouldn’t want to think that something happened to Ares, and even if Remarque didn’t know if he cared one way or the other, he wasn’t about to say something to give her more to worry about. They had enough on their plate already.
“Regardless, we’re here, now, and we need to find our way back home. I haven’t talked to the Queen. I’m not sure how long she’s been watching us or if we really did just fall into her hands. I don’t know if we can trust anything she says, but,” he grumbled as he sighed again. “It would be foolish not to see if she’s got anything she’s willing to share.”

"It's different for you," Leto responded simply to his question of home and what that meant. "I came from the White Moon, I lost what I considered my 'home', my family. All I have is the Court. I mean, Persephone is home for me but if I had to leave Earth forever... As long as she and the kids came with me, anywhere is home. Earth means very little to me anymore. I can understand why Ares was looking for more." She understood and sympathized with it maybe a little too much for her own good. "And yes... A very long time," she added with a sigh. Best case scenario, Ares got back to her own universe- and while Leto would be ecstatic for her if that were the case, she'd be lying if she ever said the thought of being left behind didn't sting. But being left behind was better than Ares being dead. For now, though, Remarque was right. They had to find their way back home- back to Earth where people were waiting for them. She refused to believe that they would be stuck here forever. "I don't trust this Queen, and I don't believe for a second that she didn't orchestrate this entire thing. I know MirrorSpace has done some weird s**t to us, but we've never had access to any other worlds before. I've spent enough time in there to know that this... This isn't normal. But you're right. We should try and get as much information out of her as we can. Even if we get different, conflicting information, we can at least catch her in her bullshit. Anything is better than nothing, right?" An eyebrow raised. At least the two of them could agree- they needed to get out of here by any means necessary.

It was different for Remarque; he knew that. He had his family in the Court and outside of it, and he’d lived in Destiny City his whole life. Leto had lived outside of Destiny City before, she’d given up that life and that identity. She’d been here, like this, for a few years; he couldn’t imagine that she hadn’t found some way to settle in—some semblance of normality that she’d become dependent on.
“Oh, I don’t trust her,” he agreed. “I don’t know what her hand in any of this is, but we’d be foolish to assume she’s doing this purely out of altruism. But,” he nodded. “Anything is better than nothing. I don’t intend on giving her any information on Earth. At least, any information that she hasn’t already gleaned from the rest of the Court. I’m going to have to remind some of them to be a little more tight lipped, at least until we know where this Queen stands. You gonna be able to keep a level head while we’re in here? Don’t start any wars without touching base with me. At least, if you can help it. It’d be best if we were all on the same page. So I won’t make a move without talking to you first. You’ll do the same?”
