Seren stood at the top of the Lighthouse tower, trying to figure out what good she would do up here if an attack occurred. Her sword was ******** useless in combat up here. But she could at least notify people, she supposed. She sighed and strode over to the small table, and decided to sit ON it. She figured it was of a good height that she could see better then if she was on a chair, and slowly settled in for her hours of guard duty. She didn't expect this to be an exciting shift, and she hoped she was right.

He might have been more excited about the sentry duty if the weather wasn't so damn dreary. But of course it was, so he (and so was his partner, if he had a partner) was just s**t out of luck.
Rhys sighed heavily and eventually made his way to the top where he was supposed to be keeping guard for possibly invading creatures of the FEAR-made variety. Much to his surprise there was already a head of familiar, cosmic colored hair seated on the table and looking out into the horizon. With his mood significantly lifted, the brunette did his best to sneak up on her and, when he was in reach, grabbed her shoulders from behind.
"HOLY s**t IT'S A ********' GOLEM!"

She had not been expecting company. She definitely had not been expecting to be GRABBED from behind in anyway. Between that and his words, she half jumped into a defensive sort of pose, shrieking, her arm swinging back to summon Diwata, and quite possibly accidentally punching Rhys in the face or upper torso in the process by accident. She spun around, pulling her sword to the ready, and then stared at Rhys, breathing heavily. After a moment, she realized what was going on, and she slowly, slowly lowered her blade, and took a loooooooong, deep breath, her eyes closing as she pondered skewering her friend for such an a*****e maneuver. Finally, her eyes snapped back open, as she desummoned Di, and she snapped "NOT COOL. DUDE that was a d**k maneuver."

There was a scream and he started laughing, and then he felt something knock into his face pretty hard followed by a flash of a sword under the dim moonlight and he wasn't laughing anymore. No, now his left cheek hurt. A lot. But the swearing because of her hitting him in the face lasted for about as long as she took those deep, calming breaths. When she was finally screaming at him, he looked up and suddenly just couldn't keep him from smiling at the obviously very, very angry Seren.
"Gotcha!" he said, grin wide as though he'd just won in some inside joke between the two of them. "C'mon, calm down. Not like shadowlings are gonna announce themselves when you're out in the field."
The Mist trainee flopped down on the table that she had previously been occupying, now nursing his sore cheek that would probably bruise at some point before their sentry duty was over.

She blinked, startled by that, and snorts at him. "Yeah no, but oh man you scared the HELL out of me. Dork." She gave him such a look, and then unsummoned her blade, pinning the star totem back onto her jacket. She stalked over to the table he was now on, her hands on her hips. "Man you're on a role. Scare the crap outta me, steal my seat." She shook her head, finally allowing herself to laugh. "What next, gonna steal my snacks too?" She grinned, then added "Assuming you can find 'em. Woulda offered to shaaaare but, maybe not now." in a teasing voice.

He caught the look but didn't really pay it any mind, instead still cradling his cheek and turning most of his attention to the horizon directly ahead of it. It was as dark and as dreary as he expected it to be considering the weather, and to be honest he expected to see golem heads all floating in the water below them if there was light enough to actually see much of anything down there. Which there wasn't.
His ears perked up at snacks though, and he turned to her, pain in his cheek temporarily forgotten. "What kinda snacks? And why the hell not now?"

Her eyes followed his out to the horizon, and sighed softly. This was not the most lovely of scenes. "D'ya think this view ever gets less dreary?" She had no experience of the island before, after all, so she had no idea that this wasn't at all the norm for this blasted island. His questions, however, caused her eyes to snap back to him, and gave him a wicked grin. "Well I mean, why would I share my snacks with seat thieves who try to give me heart attacks?" She reached into an inner pocket of her jacket, and pulled out a bag of Twin Snakes, and pulled one out, eating it slowly, pulling the snake to stretch it as she chewed. "As for what... Well I have these and some Salsa Verde doritos...."

"Maybe, maybe not," he said pretty shortly. His attention was mostly on the snacks so he basically forgot all about the bleakness that was before them.
Rhys narrowed his eyes a bit and barely scooted to give her a "generous" amount of space. "Fine. Sit'cher a** down and gimme a Dorito." He sounded almost demanding, but it was part chip-deprivation, part just really wanting some snacks to chew on to help pass the time. He didn't bring any cards with him this time, and he doubted bringing out Zephira to do some practice swings would be a really good idea. "I won't apologize for messin' with you though. All in good fun."

She couldn't help it, she began laughing at him and his need for a dorito. She walked back to the table and settled onto it next to him, before fishing out her doritos bag, and tossing it to him. "I got two, you can have that one. And yeah, I know. Doesn't mean I can't tease ya back, nor that you don't deserve it." She ate another snake, enjoying the sweet/sour pairing as she did. "Pity about the view. If it wasn't such horrible weather that this gods forsaken island seems trapped in, this view would be wonderful." She sighed softly, her eyes going back to the windows.

Rhys snorted but scooted a little bit more as thanks once she tossed him the bag of chips. "That's fair."
He openly munched on the chips, his mood brightening some even as they looked out at the dreadful skies. "True. Honestly this would be my first time up here at all, but I've heard it's real nice when it doesn't look like this." He pointed a chip at the expanse of gray before eating that one, too. "When I first got here though, it was pretty damn nice. I mean it was insane because of what we do and all, but the weather was great."
Shamelessly, he reached over and dangled his hand over her bag of snakes, sea green eyes hoping to catch hers for silent permission to grab one of the sweet snacks to balance out all the salt he was currently taking in.

She grinned and took the extra bit of room she was given, happily. Relaxing and munching with some one she was comfortable with was not something she had had a chance to do in... Well she didn't even know how long it had been. She refused to find out how long she'd been asleep, she had a feeling the answer would be distressing. "Indeed, and since I have no desire to have a matching bruise..." She nodded at his cheek. "I'd rather not do it by trying to give you an equal shock." She blinked, and then, in a disappointed voice, said "Damn... I wish I had seen that. I'd love to see this place when it's not a torrential downpour, then. Woke up too late, I guess." She glanced down at the hand, and lifted her brows, before glancing at him. She smiled a little, and shifted the bag to give him better access. She had agreed to share, after all. "Hope you like sour candies, the sour halves are pretty damn tart."

"We'll get past it eventually. I'm guessing a mission sometime in the near future, just hang tight."
With that he dipped his hand into the bag of sweet and sour treats and fished out one, ignored her warning about how tart it was, and popped it into his mouth. He had...mildly serious regrets. It was very evident on his face that was now slightly scrunched up from the level of sour he was experiencing in his mouth. "********, you weren't kidding," he said once he managed to swallow the treat. "Holy s**t..."

"I'm sure. I just... not at ALL used to this kind of rain. 'M from California, ya know?" She shook her head at it, then sighed and shrugged. "At least it's not too hot all the time with this. I mean, the island's supposed to be in the tropical zone, right?" She watched him, curious to see how he'd react to them, and tried not to laugh at his expression, not wanting to offend him. She shook her head, and said "Yeaaaaaaah I know. They surprised me the first time I tried them. I got used to it, but I don't think I've had sour gummies like these before. They certainly are more sour then the Sour Brite worms... Though at least these aren't coated in citric acid. Those used to burn my tongue, on the rare occasions I could afford to snag some." She paused, then pulled a couple out and tore them down the middle, then handed the sweet halves to him. "Here, if you prefer just the sweet side."

"New York," he said as he popped another chip to get rid of the sourness a bit more. "I didn't think about the weather too much, though. Just got through my daily s**t best I could. Weather didn't matter."
Rhys gave a shrug and leaned a little bit against her almost playfully as he reached for the sweet halves. "You're too kind." Who was he to refuse candy anyway? He popped those in his mouth, then rolled up his bag of chips and tucked them away in his coat. He liked to snack but there was a limit, at least for him. "Anyway," he started, still chewing. "When this weather goes back to normal the beach'll be nice again. And I won't have to worry about golems attacking me at random when I'm on my way back to the dorms."
Because that did happen before when he really, really had to use the bathroom. Clearly he was still bitter about it.

"What was New York like?" She asked, curiously. "Before I got recruited, I'd never even left California, and had barely made it out of my home town." She nibbled on one of the sour pieces, meditatively. "And yeah, no I know what you mean, I never had time to really worry about it. I just never realized, til this, how depressing days and days of rain can be, since I didn't have to deal with it." She paused, thinking about it, then added "I think that's one thing I would have noticed, walking to and from my jobs." She smiled, thoroughly comfortable with Rhys, and not minding the contact. It helped her remember she was really real, sometimes, which in this place... Well, sometimes she wondered if reality had escaped her. "Glad to be able to help And honestly, I don't mind. I like the contrast, myself, but I know not everyone does, and I enjoy the sours on their own too." It hurt, sometimes, but in a good way, so she was perfectly content to split some of them with him. "Mmmm have they? It's not something I've had the misfortune to experience so far." She tilted her head to look at him, hearing the bitterness. "Are they that aggressive, truly, when you're just trying to get to dorms?"
