OOC Zander is a quest student. He's running around in simple peasant's garb, colored in earthy tones.

Well, of course the sphinx couldn't go the night without playing games! He'd passed them by on the way in, but now had returned to check out what he had been missing out on.
He came just near the Whack A Walker game, near enough apparently for the gnome to shove a mallet into his hands. The brief explanation of the rules had him nodding, and he eyed the toy zombie heads popping out of the box. This looked easy enough.

It hadn't been difficult to win the first game, but this one didn't look quite so easy... Zander grimaced at the targets. He had never actually shot a bow before, and had to watch others playing in order to try and mimic their shooting technique.
Oh... Well then. That was unexpected. Apparently he was better at watching and learning than he'd ever realized. Nice! He collected the prize credits for the game and moved on down the line.

Zander was back to try out the whacking game again, plenty confident that he was going to do well the second time around. It had been so easy before. For some reason, this time he couldn't work fast enough. Surely whoever - or whatever - was controlling this thing was going crazy with their job.
Barely getting a hit on the final head, the sphinx growled and cursed under his breath and tossed down the mallet as he moved on to the next game.

Perhaps he was still too annoyed by losing what was supposed to be an easy game. He probably should've taken a short break before he decided to give the archery targets a second go. Instead, he missed the first by a long shot. His hopes up with a perfect shot with the second, he was all the more disappointed when he missed the third shot as well.
There were other games, right? Maybe he could accomplish those...

Well, this was something he hadn't noticed before. It was a surprise, really, considering how large the pile of hay was and how loudly the gnomes were arguing between themselves.
Zander approached cautiously, overhearing enough to gauge that something needed to be found. He couldn't say that he wasn't confused, but surely whatever he might find in the hay that wasn't just hay had to be the thing that was missing, right?
After literally diving into the task and digging around for what felt half an hour, he encountered something solid. It was decidedly a lot larger than the ring he'd heard one of the gnomes complaining about, but he pulled himself and it free and showed it to them.
Apparently, that item was wrong somehow, and he had to shove it back into the pile to stop one of them yelling at him. Ok then.

This was certainly the easiest game setup, but when the sphinx had done so well for himself on the first try it was only frustrating to lose the second time. At least he'd not failed both attempts. That just would've been sad.
Determined to make up for his previous loss, Zander tried to bring the mallet down as soon as he saw the slightest hint of movement from any of the openings. He could've accidentally hit a gnome and probably wouldn't have cared too much.
He was worried that he was in for another loss, but thankfully he scraped by with hitting two. It'd be nice to master hitting all of them, but winning two out of three games wasn't bad.

Would've thought he'd get better at archery when they weren't even real arrows? Zander thought that his first shot was perfect, but shockingly he discovered that there were more points to be won. To make things even better, once he got his third shot he nailed max points for that one as well! He couldn't help but wish that the point count had more to do with how many gold dragons he could win. He could've made up for all of his losses all at once and then some.

Maybe his confidence was a little too high after breezing through the archery game with a near perfect score. He probably should've stopped there. No, he decided to approach the bickering gnomes and the giant pile of hay again.
Yes, he found something! Only that something wasn't a ring. It was the same weird key he found last time. He quickly buried it again and rushed off before he could get told off again. Why was that gnome so angry?!

Zander was absolutely, positively certain that he'd taken enough of a break from the games to make time for any unlikely muscle strain to go away. Apparently he just had bad luck. He refused to think that he might have bad reflexes.

Moving on to the next game again, he prepared himself to do awfully at this one as well. At least it left him to be only pleasantly surprised if he didn't mess it up.
It was really strange, how he'd gotten so much worse at whacking fake undead heads and yet done so well with fake arrows. Maybe he should think about buying a bow.

The other two times he'd tried to find whatever it was the gnomes and student seemed to be looking for, he only managed to grab some weird key that got him yelled at. With that in mind, Zander made another attempt to bury himself in the giant hay bale in search of something that was not that key.
When he found something much smaller, he crawled out and investigated his find. "Is this it?"
Clearly it was the right item, for he soon found Sludge offering him a golden dragon. Seemed like a pretty fair trade to him. "Maybe put it on a chain, if you're not putting it on your finger. Wear it around your neck so you don't lose it."
