Fauna had had a long day of recruiting and few results, so now as she lay with her wings sprawled out on the stage, she tried to come up with more she could do.
I wonder if I could be called the Stage Manager, She thought. For all the work I'm trying to do. It was a nice notion, to be the one in charge of it all, but in order to be a stage manager, she needed to find others to manage.
"Actors... stage hands... I guess costume designers would come next." She mused and got to her paws. It was time to get back to work, enough of this laying around. Yet, even as she made to go towards the remains of the costumers' workshop behind the Theater, she couldn't help, but pause. She felt as though she ought to wait, just a few minutes more, for something to happen.WC: 152

Mahzarin was just passing by, really. He had business with the Theater for sure, having decided that - as much as he loved the look of the Toy Maker's Assistant and his Apprentices - that might not be where his calling lie. But he'd originally planned to take some time to think it over, maybe sleep on it. He'd been thinking he wouldn't look into what was left of the Theater until tomorrow, or maybe the next day. Yet as he continued on his way...he couldn't say what drew him toward the old place at that precise moment. But there was certainly something, and the tah wasn't one to ignore his instincts. So there he was, sauntering up to the stage.
Of course, what should he find but someone waiting for him? Laid out on the set floor, however temporarily. Had he seen this unusual nan before? The face and floral crown were familiar, but if he did know her name, he just couldn't place it right then and there. "Are you acting, Sleeping Beauty?" 'Zarin joked, lifting his forelegs onto the stage just shy of her tail. If she was an actor, he had to assume she was a fair one. Her crown was not only distinct, but well-crafted. Framed her hair perfectly at that. He beamed at her, a good-humored showman's grin. "I've seen you outside, haven't I? Didn't realize you were spreading your wings for your own performance."

Fauna tilted her head back and before her saw a cream-coated Tah, though from her view he was upside-down. She smiled at him and after he had placed his paws near her tail, she rolled over in the other direction, before centering herself to look at him.
"I was waiting." She replied mysteriously, waggling her eyebrows at him before laughing. "I am not yet an actor, though I plan to be, once this all comes together." She opened one of her wings to gesture to the space above her at the grandness of the Theater.
"You very likely may have," She said, nodding at the notion of him seeing her outside. "I go out to recruit nearly every day. A Theater can't be restored with a single b'alam, after all." She told him, her voice light and cheery. "If you're here, I have to assume you came here for the Theater or in regards to it. Are you interested in becoming apart of what I'm building here?" She gave him a sly grin and her tail curled. "Or have you just come to admire a pretty Nan? I definitely won't fault you if that is your reason." She said, adjusting the position of her crown with her ears, for it had begun to slip just so.WC: 216

The tah's grin widened. She had spirit, this one! That was always fun in an actress. "You'll be a fine one, I'm sure," he added, leaning back as he followed her beckoning wing. The Theater was grand, to be sure, but not so much as it had once been - or so it seemed to him. "You're trying to restore the place? All on your own? That's some dedication." But despite the words, 'Zarin's voice betrayed his approval of the idea. The fact remained, though, that it was a big job for one b'alam. However lovely she may be.
"Don't get me wrong, Beauty, you live up to the name." He returned his gaze to hers, almost laughing at the curl of her tail and the way she adjusted that pretty wreath about her ears. "But you pegged me right, I might have something to add to your Theater. See...I've been thinking I want to try my hand at accents. Pretty decorations, like your crown there. I enjoy dealing with fine metals, particularly gold. I like the way they look, y'see. Like the way folks look in them." Again he flashed that cheeky smile, his eyes sparkling. "Don't suppose you have any room for a wanna-be costumer in those grand plans of yours?" He drew the words out, long and just a touch mocking, but there was a hint of shyness in the question as well. Would he fit into this nantlil's grand plans? He was talking about pledging his hobby to a much more serious goal, and the more he let himself think about it... Well, thank goodness he was smiling on the outside.

Fauna grinned, delighted by the words of this Tah. At the notion of doing this all on her own, she shrugged. "Not quite. I may have taken up the task, but I have found other like-minded individuals who have offered their aid in returning the Theatre to its former greatness. I have them to thank for a lot of the work that's been put into the project." She admitted.
When he went onto explaining how his interests lay in costuming, her eyes lit up with glee and her fur fluffed out in her excitement. "A costumer?" She repeated. "Oh, I'd be delighted to have you!" With her tail, she gestured behind her. "We all would, I'm sure!" Turning partially upstage, she nodded at him to join her. "In fact, if you follow me, I'd be happy to show you what remains of the old costumers' workshop. Perhaps you could find something of interest to start with there?" She offered, before remembering something that had been forgotten, despite how important it was. "Oh, dear me, I've nearly forgotten!" Turning back to him, she splayed out her wings and dipped the front half of her body forward in a low bow. As she rose, she beamed at the pale Tah across from her. "I am Fauna, self-proclaimed Stage Manager and definite actress. Welcome to the Theatre!"WC: 224

Mahzarin's eyes glittered, his fanged grin crinkling their edges. On the one paw, he was certainly in for it now. Maybe he should have been nervous about that. But it was hard to feel any trepidation at all with the fetching actress onstage, and the Tah found her excitement deliciously infectious. His wings flared slightly as he hefted his hind legs onto the stage, eager in spite of himself to follow the crowned beauty.
"I am Mahzarin, aspiring goldsmith and apparently your first costumer. Lead the way, Fauna," the tah replied, his smile curling around her name with all the mirth he couldn't lend voice to right now. "I'm eager to see your facilities. I can probably make up for whatever I happen to be missing with the merchants, but honestly, the further your existing supplies can get me, the better." He liked the merchants, liked dealing with them. In another lifetime, maybe he might have joined their number. Just now, though, he had chosen his lot: he wanted to work metal. Yearned to carve gold into trinkets that would steal others' hearts and sing to their spirits. And it looked like he was going to accomplish all that through the magic of a rejuvenated Theatre.206

Fauna smiled at the Tah who introduced himself in a manner quite grand. "Well, I must say, that's the fanciest name I've ever heard. That surely means that you were meant for the Theatre, Mahzarin." She declared and then watched as he joined her on the stage. She smiled at his words and nodded along to what he had to say.
"I've got to remember to go check in at the marketplace soon myself. I'm in need of buying new cloth for the curtains." She remarked, partially to herself and partially to her pale companion. Shaking herself slightly, she looked back to Mahzarin and indicated with a pointing of her ears where they were going to be headed: backstage.
"I'm not sure what we have that will interest you immediately, but we can always bargain with the merchants about getting something set up, I'm sure." She said as they rounded a few corners and eventually came in front of a small cave that was filled with various materials. Many of them were cloths that Fauna had only shaken off and tried to fold when she had first discovered them, some time ago, but there were shimmering pieces of metal here and there, necklaces or ear pieces that someone had made an age ago.
"If you're up to the task, since I suspect you know a lot more about what's valuable versus what isn't, I could really use your help organizing this place." She told her new costumer. "If this something you'd be comfortable doing?"WC: 254

An unspent laugh made the corner of 'Zarin's mouth twitch at her mention of his name. That's what his name meant, was it? Never occurred to him, he supposed, that there was anything particularly fancy about his moniker, though there was something to like about the idea. If Fauna meant to bring the tahtll around to her side with flattery alone, it was plain to see that she was off to a good start.
Resisting the urge to preen any further, the pale male was able to tune back in just in time to nod at mention of the marketplace. Following the set of her ears was an automatic impulse, and left plenty of time for other things: examining the state of the curtains, for example. He hadn't noticed it before, but the once-grand draperies went a long way towards the now-tawdry look of the stage. A fresher set would help the theatre's image a great deal.
"Finding new should be no trouble," he agreed politely, sensing that she was, perhaps, not strictly speaking to him. "The merchants may even be more willing to deal with us if we order the cloth and equipment all at once - I've yet to meet a seller that didn't enjoy letting go of their stock." He laughed. "There's an idea - perhaps you can bargain a future performance for the betterment of the stage today." Surely every self-respecting Dark would be interested in seeing the theatre return to glory, right?
Well. He pushed gently passed his guide, gaze roving about the room even as his paws performed a cursory circuit. As 'Zarin nosed about the cave, his mind pulling discarded fabrics into folded piles and ordering the miscellaneous trinkets to look at later, he was pressed to consider ideal against reality. If 'everyone' were concerned with Fauna's goal, for instance, he wouldn't be the only one in this room with her right now.
Not that it mattered. The pale male looked over his shoulder, favoring her with a grin. "I won't lie, dear Fauna, it's going to be a bit of a venture getting all this straightened up. But it's well within my capabilities, don't you worry." He'd turned up, hadn't he? That meant she could get her message to others, as well. He only had to have faith that she would.390

Fauna watched her new costumer consider the cave before him, her tail flicking nervously behind her. Yet, she stilled it when he came to look upon her again and smiled at him encouragingly.
"Oh, I'm certain that we will be able to do it!" She told him. "I am always ready to lend a helping paw if you need assistance and once we get more b'alam into the theater, I know they'll be rushing to assist too." One of her wings stretched out pleasantly. "After all, isn't going through this cave a bit like a treasure hunt? What if there's something truly wonderful hidden just under the surface and we have yet to find it? Just thinking about it makes me want to start searching!" Now both of her wings were fluttering with excitement.
She came to stand beside Mahzarin as she looked out across the clusters of piles. "I can stay to help you get started, if you'd like." She offered. "Or I can go out again and see if I can't get other b'alam to help our cause." She turned to look at him. "What say you?" She asked with bright eyes. She had already managed to recruit a costumer, so how hard would it be, she thought, to recruit the rest of the Dark Tribe?WC: 218 Anderleit My apologies for the delay in getting a post here! The grin widened. If she didn't fancy herself an actress after all was said and done, Mahzarin thought that perhaps a spot in the royal court would do Fauna well. She certainly had the silver tongue to get her by, not to mention the knowledge to wield it. The tah turned the thought over in his head a moment, letting it and its implications amuse him, before discarding it with a chuckle. At a second consideration, perhaps not. The eager nan seemed far too earnest and forthright for life in the night-court. There was a certain amount of guile at play there, a certain sort of posturing that was rather unlike that which took place on the stage. There was a reason he preferred to be down here.
"I'm willing to believe as long as you are, my Lady," quipped the still-smiling male, inclining his head to her in a bow. He'd be true to his word: as long as she could keep drawing others in with that infectious energy, he would be more than happy to follow in her wake and make sure things were kept up to performer's standard. "Don't you worry about things here. I appreciate the offer, but we're not going to attract a roused and rambunctious cast of supporting artists and stars of show unless you're out there." Grinning into that bright-eyed stare, the tah's front paw reinforced his words: though lazily done, the motion could be inferred as none other than 'shoo'. "So go attract, Beauty. I'll find you with an inventory once I'm done here."266

Fauna was ever-so pleased that she had found such a wonderful companion. It was on the days like today that she felt as though she was really doing something worth while. To see that Mahzarin was so willing to be apart of the Theatre and so undoubtedly charming too, was a sight that Fauna wish she could replicate time and time again with other members too.
"Sounds like you ought to prepare for quite the commitment, Mahzarin." She told the Tah, her eyes bright. "Never in all my days will I stop believing in the Theatre." She vowed. She dipped her head when he told her that he could handle things there. "Very well. You know where to find me." She informed him and with a friendly wave of her tail, she started off, only to pause to say, "Good luck, good Tah, and welcome to the Theatre!" before disappearing.WC: 150 Anderleit Shall we consider this finished, or would you like to have it continue on?

The tahtll's tail lifted as she left, mimicking hers in a velvet-furred salute. His head tilted, a half-smile hovering on his muzzle, considering the russet actress and all she had enticed him into.
Or had she? Mahzarin's gaze lifted, scanning the low ceiling of the workshop as if all the answers could be found there. Commitment, that was really all she had offered him. A chance to belong to her crusade, and a vehicle to accomplish what he'd been meaning to achieve all along.
And he was in need of it, honestly. While young, the tah liked to think he had wisdom enough to admit to himself that while his work ethic was strong - and his abilities promising, not to boast unduly - his focus was lacking. Indeed, it had been for quite some time. That was why he had bounced between lesser duties, never really picking up the mantle of that which could truly challenge him.
Golden eyes lowered once again to the clutter of shows past. A quiet chuckle passed his maw. Here and now, then, he had the opportunity. Truly working with the precious metals that had intrigued him all his life; the chance to pursue the calling that he had so far neglected. And to be pulled into it by a lovely nan, of all things! The Weaver certainly did choose strange ways to work.
Mahzarin rolled his shoulders, letting his wings unfurl as much as they could in the confines of the narrow walls. Pelt rustled and bones rattled with the stretch, and at the end of it, the tah felt somehow cleansed. He had a duty to attend to as well: the inventory wouldn't take himself. Smiling, the tah turned to his task.
belloblossom This seems like a good ending spot!
