The Daerys family came from Valyria right before the fall. They have dark hair but surprisingly light eyes and strong bodies from the rigors of living in the Vale. The family is known for their patience and strong presence. They are famous for their endurance in both a physical and environmental sense. The vale is filled with sharp hills hiding volcanic activity and natural hot springs which are renowned for their therapeutic properties. The family is also famous for their ability to tame any beast set before them.

House Daerys commands one of the smallest forces in all of the Kingdoms.
Prior to the entering the war with Dorne, house Daerys had command of 16,000 troops. The number has since been reduced to 15,000 in a little over a year that they had been at war. The lack of casualties compared to other houses stem from the fact that all young, able bodied men are given two years of training and then must serve in the standing military force for a year before returning home.

Out of all of the kingdoms in Westeros, the economy of the Vale is small by comparison.
The hotsprings provide a source of income for the towns which they are around. People from all over the Kingdoms come to bath in the waters as they are said to have healing properties. Trades of all sorts in these towns prosper with the influx of revenue. Blacksmithing is a trade in these hotspring towns that is in high demand. It is thought that the best blacksmiths in all of the kingdoms live in the Vale. Horse husbandry and training is also another way that some people make a living. Most of the people outside of the hotspring cities, however, survive off of subsistence farming and rearing of small animals.
Another sight to see in the Vale are the Red Temples were the fire priests and priestesses put on elaborate rituals at various time of the years; every night they can be seen to light fires and pray to their god that he brings back the day. Some nobles from around the kingdoms like to visit these temples and witness such events. Many men, and women if they are discrete enough, also make use of the temple prostitutes which can get much more expensive compared to normal brothels.
Fifteen percent of profits go to the local Banner House which settled the area and another ten percent goes to house Daerys.
𝕽𝖊𝖘𝖔𝖚𝖗𝖈𝖊𝖘 Food in the vale mostly consists of white meat dishes from wild or domesticated fowl as well as flat breads or potatoes. While the soil is fertile there isn't very much flat land which means that farmers have to make do with hillsides. Goats tend to be the largest animal most people keep. The horses that are used in this kingdom tend to be large with powerful legs and a sure footing.
One of the trickier resource in the region is sulfur and saltpeter which only a few skilled laborers know how to extract properly. Once it is extracted the minerals are stored in secure locations. House Daerys keeps guard over these locations but has not revealed to the rest of Westeros what it's for or even that they really are really doing such a thing.

House Daerys and much of the Vale worship the Lord of Light, R'Hllor, as the main religion of the region.
The religion is based on a dualistic, manichean view of the world: R'hllor, the god of light, heat, and life, and R'hllor's antithesis the Great Other, the god of ice, darkness, and death. They are locked in an eternal struggle over the fate of the world; a struggle that, according the ancient prophecies from the books of Asshai, will only end when Azor Ahai, the messianic figure, returns wielding a flaming sword called Lightbringer, the Red Sword of Heroes, and raises dragons from stone.
Clergy of the R'hllor religion are called red priests, due to the loose, crimson robes they wear. Red priests may be male or female. In the east, they are a common sight, where the faith of R'hllor's influence is more widespread and children are sometimes given to temples of R'hllor to be raised into the priesthood. The red temples, such as the Temple of the Lord of Light in Volantis, also buy children as slaves; these slaves of R'hllor are raised as priests, temple prostitutes, or warriors. The warriors that protect the greater temples are called the Fiery Hand.

Life in the Vale is like peaceful and isolated from the rest of Westeros. Traditionally the people in the Vale are not interested in what's happening with the rest of Westeros and prefer to stay out of the political realm.
𝕾𝖔𝖈𝖎𝖆𝖑 Those who are born from and grow up in the Vale are from the blood of old Valyria. As such they have kept the primary points of it's culture alive despite slowly assimilating to the land. The people enjoy a relatively simple life style of rearing pastoral animals and craftsmanship. Despite the relaxed life style the terrain is not quite so easy to deal with. Children learn very quickly what kinds of trails would collapse under their weight as they climb through the hills and cliff. However, not all areas have such dire conditions. In fact, those in the Vale enjoy a resource that's not at all common to Westeros - natural hot springs. There are varying kinds all around the Vale and the locals seem to know which each ones are just by looking at them. As you can imagine this means that they have a great respect for the ritual of bathing. Even the low born children, when compared to those in other regions, are considered to be immaculate.
In the Vale when boys turn thirteen years of age they are taken to the main cities and trained to be soldiers until they turn fifteen. At which point they serve in the standing military for a year before being allowed to go home. Some choose to continue to serve but a vast majority go back to their peaceful way of life. Girls on the other hand report to one of the local red temples each day from the time they are ten years. There they learn the ways of the Lord of Light and how to do serve as pillars of the community. The education ceases to be mandatory when they have their first blood. Most girls return home to their respected houses or farms.
However for those in the banner houses, every five years house Daerys holds a gathering for the banner houses. Parents who have decided that it time for their children who are over the age of sixteen to be married send them to the Eyrie where they spend a month in each other's company. At the end of the month engagements are announced and if desired, the new couples can be married on the spot. Those who either don't get engaged or don't continue to marriage, return back to their homes.
𝕬𝖗𝖈𝖍𝖎𝖙𝖊𝖈𝖙𝖚𝖗𝖊 The Vale echo back to Old Valyria. Winding roads all connect to one another in the Vale at some point. In that way all roads lead to both the Eyrie and the Kings' road.
Buildings tend to have an almost circular base that rise two or three stories. Often times the roofs are left flat. Those that aren't are domed in shape. Firepits or grand fire places tend to be the main focal point of a great room. If the family can afford it, rooms are covered in drapery to help keep out chilly drafts. Another thing to keep the rooms temperate is that hot water from natural springs are piped through the large keep walls, keeping the frost away from the stones. Windows, interestingly enough, tend to be large and arching, left without bars or guards. All keeps have one area where they can look out and survey an area from almost a full circular perspective; with smaller keeps this tends to be from the roof. Whenever possible buildings seem to be built into the rocky hills, providing durability.

╔══════════════════╗ _𝕺 𝖗 𝖎 𝖌 𝖎 𝖓 ╚══════════════════╝
The house of Daerys is only four hundred years old, but it has roots much farther back than that as the members came from the Valyrian Freehold.
Valyria was once a minor civilization of peaceful sheep-herding folk dwelling on the Valyrian peninsula, until the Valyrians discovered dragons lairing in the Fourteen Flames, a ring of volcanoes on the peninsula. The Valyrians tamed the dragons with magic and mastered the technique of raising and training the dragons into devastating weapons of war. Magic flowered, topless towers rose toward the heavens where dragons soared, and smiths used spells to forge Valyrian steel weapons of legendary strength and sharpness. They began expanding their influence, establishing the Freehold with Valyria as its capital. The Valyrian Freehold continued to expand and conquer further west, capturing many slaves from conquered lands and using them to mine great wealth from the Fourteen Flames, as well as build great cities and roadways that led to Valyria. At the height of its power, the Freehold stretched over most of Essos west of the Bone Mountains. Many of the numerous cities were connected by dragon roads.
Nothing lasts forever as the Valyrians soon found out. The fertile land which had fostered them for so long turned against them four hundred years ago. The Fourteen Flames began to erupt one right after the other raining fire and smoke down on the peninsula. TThe land was ripped apart with the earthquakes and eruptions. The devistation was felt across the continent and whispered about across the seas. It became known as The Doom.
Practically overnight, the once proud people who so valiantly rode dragons perished. All but 1,000 explorers who had been sent to sea to explore new territories outside of Essos. These 1,000 would be explorers, women and men alike, watched from afar as their home burned. They had just been able to avoid the devastation as the ashen laid winds pushed against their sails, taking them to safety. As their home burned a long boat full with weary soldiers found it's way to the ships. They numbered maybe fifty more souls who had reacted quickly as the explosions started and with them they brought precious cargo - the Valyrian's source of power...dragon eggs. The captain of these men who had reacted so quickly was named Dracar.
Dracar took command of the ships while hiding the dragon eggs so they could remain safe. He led the surviving men and woman of Valyria to the west where the first men and then the andals had already settled. The 1050 souls marched through Westeros meeting a world that wanted nothing to do with them and often time ran them out of the towns with violence. Until finally they found a segment of land that neither the first men nor the Andals had settled. The land was similar to old Valyria in that it was surrounded by jagged peaks and volcanic activity. It became known as the Vale as well as the refuge of the last Valyrians.
The survivors established a strong hold that suited their needs high in a mountain range and quickly picked up life once more. The soldiers trained all the young men and women that they could to defend themselves as they rebuilt their life. Dracar, the captain that had managed to save the dragon eggs, quickly rose to a total leadership role. He married the daughter of the original ships' captain and gave his family a new name - Daerys, which means King in High Valyrian. The 49 original soldiers became the first Knights of the Vale and were formed into noble houses like the other lands around them.
As the Valyrians cultivated the land and began the trades that they knew such as smithing, nearby lords began to get curious. However, feeling that they had been shunned too harshly upon arrival the aging Dracar of house Daerys made sure that his people kept to their closed border policies. They traded with the outsiders as little as possible but demand for some of their goods was quite large so they were able to quickly gain power. This is because a handful of the original explorers knew the secrets to smithing Valyrian Steel. In return to peace treaties and wives or husbands of their choosing from the other great houses that existed, the smiths of the Vale fashioned Valyrian swords for the high lords.
One of his final acts as Kings was to marry his only daughter to the most talent smith of their region. He then sentenced the other smiths to death as he feared that giving the outsiders the opportunity to gain more and more of their treasured steel would bring about their final doom. Valis, the last remaining blacksmith, took to heart the kings' actions and warnings as he married his daughter. He closed off all trades and demands for Valyrian steel and only passed down the secrets through the Daerys family.
However, the borders that had once been closed began to open bit by bit. The remaining Valyrians refused to marry outside of their own, however, in hopes that they'd keep their bloodline pure. But the culture began to change slowly over time. Then, 100 years ago, the house Whick had build up such strength that they overthrew most of the other lands. The kings who did not bend the knee to the Whicks were quickly replaced.
Still having a survivor's mentality, the Daerys of the Vale submitted to the Whicks under the condition that they kept governance of their own land. They would call the banners and ride with the Whicks if it was ever needed but mostly they were left alone. This treaty was written in High Valyrian etched into a Valyrian steel sword and presented to the head of the house. Since then the inhabitants of the Vale have kept peace with most of the other lands just as they continued to keep to their self imposed isolation.
