Joy still had a lot of energy to spare even after the spar, and while she was definitely the sort to push herself beyond her limits, she didn't mind risking life and limb when it was her own. But when it came to other people's well being, Joy didn't want to risk it. She could probably do some of the training courses afterwards to burn off her excess energy.
But right now, she was cooling down with Rhys. "Usually Bert's good enough to reach for stuff buuuuuut when it's something breakable, I'd rather have one of those extendable hand-thingies," she grinned, dismissing the shovel to its totem form.

Rhys was leaning against the wall now, his whole body starting to get heavy from the workout (and beating, essentially) they just did. He slipped off his coat, scarf, and flannel and slung them over his shoulder to help cool himself down faster. Seriously, he should consider leaving most of these layers back in his dorm so he had to wash them less. He had to do this after every sparring session or training course so why he kept wearing them when he knew what he was getting into was beyond him.
"'Extendable hand-thingies?'" he repeated with a quirked brow. "Well, I'm pretty tall so I don't think I'd need one of those. Think you'll be able to get your hands on one at some point?"

Joy gave a teasing whistle as Rhys removed the layers before shaping her hand into a claw, "Ha! If I could go into the world of cartoons, I'd mos def get more than those hand-things," she laughed, pulling out a small hand towel tucked under the back of her shirt to wipe at her own sweat. "I shoulda added a reminder to bring towels when I sent you the text. My bad."
Rain drops began to fall, and Joy motioned for them to find shelter before the inevitable downpour and water golems formed.

Her gesture to find shelter was met with a nod so he straightened out, groaning while he did because his body was already starting to get stiff and sore. "Eh. My other clothes work fine as a towel if I really need it, so no big."
Rhys started fanning himself with his scarf to help him cool down a bit more as he started walking in the direction of the dorms. "Anyway, so other than the hand-things what else would you grab? I'd probably grab some of that ACME s**t. It'd be way useful for the work we gotta do here."

Joy made a face at Rhys' comment about using his clothes as a towel then smacked her palm against her forehead, "I just reacted like my 'nay." She jokingly shuddered before they finally got in out of the rain.
The moon trainee squinted in thought, trying to remember where she heard ACME before and it dawned on her, "Oh! Like that dog-thing, kwan no, the coyote! I remembered an old cartoon had those neat "portable holes" in a box. Yeah, mos def useful!" she nodded in approval.
"But if I could get something that was just, y'know, for me and not work..." she trailed off, "I'd want Jem's earrings."

He was a little confused about the facepalm and most of what she said after, so he left it alone and kept on fanning himself as they went, skipping ahead to talk of cartoons. "Yeah, Wile E. Coyote, the guy from the Roadrunner stuff. ACME was all over Looney Toons though." It reminded him of a time way, way back when he could actually just hang around on Saturday mornings and watch TV with a bowl of cereal in his lap, which didn't make for the greatest of moods so he did his best to shove the thoughts away.
Rhys soon wiped the rolling beads of sweat away with his scarf, glancing over at her thoughtfully when she mentioned the name of an unfamiliar character. "Jem?"

"I guess as a guy you would have watched GI Joe or Transformers or Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles instead." Joy concluded, "But Jem was this awesome cartoon. It was, like, the cartoon version of those telenovela soap opera shows only the lead has this really cool Hologram making machine called Synergy. And Jem and her band the Holograms who are like her sisters," Joy really tried to cut down on the backstory, but she still talked up a storm, ending with "And the clothes and make up were, like the show says, truly outrageous!" She explained, striking a pose that might not have been all that accurate but she had nostalgia goggles on so ******** accuracy.Usually, Joy forgot that she spent most of the 2000s sleeping in a pod. She went about her days on Deus getting on with the rest of her life as best as she could, and if she could manage to have fun along the way all the better. But then there were times when the reality that she'd lost a decade and a half would hit her and it would come in the most innocuous things.

Rhys listened closely, nodding just once when she explained what cartoon she'd been talking about. It didn't sound familiar at all, not even after her funky pose demonstration (which got a snort out of him), so he just shrugged by the end of it. "Yeah, no, can't remember it. Must've been good for you, though."
The rain had just been trickling down minutes earlier but soon the drops came steadier and steadier until it was a proper downpour. It helped cool him down but getting drenched from (probably not clean) rainwater was not on his agenda. "******** me," he muttered through a scowl before looking over at Joy then nodding toward the dorm building in the distance. "C'mon!" The trainee ran ahead of her and used his jacket for temporary cover, eyes on the door that was sitting wide open for some reason or another.

It was a very good idea for them to get to the dorm building to shelter from the storm. And while Joy herself was pretty sure it was going to take more than a little (or sometimes a lot) of rain to get her sick, why risk it?
"Right behind you," she called after him, running but not at as brisk a pace as he was. She was feeling nostalgic after all, and the current weather was very reminiscent of home.
By the time Joy got through the door, she was soaked and creating a small puddle where she stood. "Ah shet, I'll go get a mop to clean this up. My FEAR shield's still strong enough to make sure I don't get FEAR pneumonia again, but you might wanna go get a hot shower." And her mom mode just kicked in.

"Fear pneumonia?" he asked as he used his scarf as a makeshift towel to dry off his hair, face, and neck. The rest of him was also pretty soaked through and leaving a puddle beneath him. "Sounds pretty serious so I think I'm gonna do that."
Rhys started making for the stairs to go and grab some clothes before heading to the shower, but he paused and looked back at Joy in her drenched state and frowned. He couldn't exactly just leave her. Well, he could but that seemed a kinda ******** up. "My door's open if you wanna dry off in my room until the rain stops. I've got clean towels and stuff, so it's cool." He stood and waited for her reply, still drying off his hair as best he could with his totally wet and probably useless-for-drying-by-now scarf.

"I'll make you kwento after I've cleaned up. If you're still in the same room, I'll mos def take you up on an extra towel or two." She said, giving him a thumbs up before making some shooing motions. She looked adamant that he go and take care of himself.

"Kw--" he started to say, then remembered that she did her mixed language stuff and left it alone. "Yep, same room. I'll leave some towels out for you then."
With that he scooted off, leaving a trail of rainwater in his wake. He didn't really pay it too much attention and just hurried. He was in and out of his room in about a minute and was back upstairs to steal some not-disgusting warm water from the first floor bathrooms. He passed by Joy on the way and called out, "Door's unlocked whenever you're done," before rushing the rest of the way to the showers.

Joy didn't rush, but she sure didn't dawdle in mopping up the puddles. She did make sure to wring out her hair and clothes as much as she could and was mostly just damp by the time she finished and headed to Rhys' room.
She felt a little nostalgic as she walked her way to the basement, but there weren't a lot of good memories which had the feeling quickly pass. She was looking forward to going back to her room though, but with the rain still pouring down she thought it would be better to wait it out. She did get to toweling her hair dry.

The shower was as refreshing as he'd hoped it would be and now the brunette was walking across the first floor halls completely calm and relatively at peace. The worry of fear pneumonia was gone but he was still curious, and when he note that Joy had since disappeared from the halls Rhys hurried to his room. Sure enough there she was, toweling off her hair and getting dry.
"So," he said as he closed to the door behind him. "What was that about fear pneumonia?"

Damp clothes did not make for a comfortable wear but Joy had worn worse, at least there weren't any living organisms wriggling in them. Still, she knew better than to sit down on any dry surface, which was why when she made good with her promise to talk about fear pneumonia she remained standing up.
"Ah, yes, in my defense, I was still a trainee then. Didn't get promoted yet so FEAR shield's not as strong. I went up against a Halloweener in the Haunted House. They made the first move, not me, tried to reason with them. Crazy b***h tried to drown. Hell, she almost drowned me, got a lotta water shoved down my throat." she clucked her tongue, but sounded more disappointed than frightened by the prospect. "Low fear shield, fear-controlled water going into lungs, mos def a recipe for pneumonia. Luckily Jordan was doing a patrol at the time and saved my a**."
