The sun was setting slowly into the summer twilight, but it was still warm and bright under the trees of the Moonlight Herd. Light and heat wouldn't fade for a while yet, shifting then from a golden haze to blue evening. Under the trees, a starry shadow drifted, feline tail and ears shifting calmly, horns and gem glowing faintly in the fading light. Pale blue silks fluttered about him, and a simple silver necklace hung about his shoulders.
Things had slowly been going better for him. Which wasn't saying a lot, given how unhappy things had been for him before Aquarius came to change his fate. But things were still definitely looking up. Dubh didn't feel like such an outcast anymore. Well, OK, he still didn't socialize much, but the herd was, quite frankly, pretty busy these days, rebuilding in the absence of most of his family. He felt like he should miss them more, but, by and large, they'd never really reached out to him. Not even his own mother.
Azha had more or less stepped in to fill the void, which was nice. Nice enough that a new series of questions had slowly popped into his head. The herd accepted and welcomed him. They were busy, to be sure, but no one held themselves apart from him, and that was wonderful.
But he didn't entirely know who he was, now that the curse had been broken. He wasn't one of the family's cursed children anymore, and he wasn't a shy, lonely, and miserable shade floating along at Arei's monochrome heels anymore. He was his own Star, free to do as he liked, just...unsure of what he really, truly wanted out of life. Unsure of what made him, well, him. What made him happy, scared, mad, or a whole host of other emotions, beyond the twisted mess the curse had left in his mind.
And Dubh was dead certain that he never wanted to return to those days. But how to go about working out the next stage of his life, post curse?
