Terry was trying to get his breathing back into a more regular rhythm. He clearly didn't spar often and even with the change in lifestyle as a Deus hunter trainee, he still needed to have better stamina. Well it was a stat that you couldn't improve overnight but still, it didn't exactly feel good to lose.
"I'm alright. Winded. Shield needs some time to recover though," he assured Seren. "You sure you've never sparred before? You have a pretty solid technique it seems."

She took some slow breaths, letting her body relax, and blushed a little at his words. "I'm glad you're ok... And seriously, no. I... Maybe it's why I fit in Sun, I guess? I just did what seemed natural." She paused, then blushed again, this time a more 'ack I feel embarrassed to say this' way. "I uh... used to read a lot of what some call 'high fantasy', and I always was fascinated by the battle scenes, and especially ones with women warriors." She looked thoughtful, if still red cheeked. "I especially loved Tamora Pierce's stuff, and I dunno. Maybe some of what I read just sort of inspired the moves?" She sounded unsure, but she still was obviously very pleased and flattered that the other trainee had complimented her. Maybe he wasn't THAT much more experienced then her in sparring, but he'd definitely been here longer. She considered his winded state, then added "Though maybe we could meet up and do jogging together? I know, I KNOW, jogging is awful, but it's a great way to build up basic stamina. There's other good work outs for it, too, but... I'm only familiar with jogging." She looked down at her feet and half-mumbled "It's all I could afford to learn about before..."

Terry considered her words, "I suppose even if I had read the same books, there aren't very many warriors who used shields for weapons. I suppose Captain America does but his shield is of a made up alloy that I'm not entirely certain FEAR can replicate." he glanced at the bracelet of coral carved to look like teeth, as if prompting Agata to give him an answer. He only got an utterly confused reaction from the lamprey monster.
"Also I'm afraid I'm unfamiliar with that author. The only warrior women I've seen in the media I've consumed involved naked lesbians riding dragons fighting against barely dressed lesbians riding dragons." And don't even get him started on orgasm-powered mechas.
The suggestion of jogging however garnered a blank stare while on the inside Terry screamed. "Perhaps if the weather makes the island less muddy and we are less prone to encountering water golems, I may take you up on your suggestion." He prayed she wasn't aware that they had a gym.

She considered, and said "No, not as their weapon generally, though sometimes it would depict them using it as a back up weapon when they'd lost their swords or something... Shield bashing was written as a legit attack, sometimes. Maybe you should see what the internet says about shields-as-a-weapon?" She blinked, recognizing the Captain America reference, but not anywhere as well read on it as him. "Well... he throws it, too... That seems kind of risky, to me, when you're not exactly hyped up on whatever superjuice they gave him..." His comment about naked lesbians, semi naked lesbians, dragons, and fighting made her jaw go slack, and stunned. She had no idea what this was about, and she had never heard of such a thing either. It was VERY clear he'd sort of broken her brain for the moment. She saw the blank stare, and smiled a little. "It's not for everyone, I know... But you seem like a nice guy, and I'd hate to see you go down in a major battle because you ran out of stamina. That's the only reason I brought it up." She shrugged and sighed. "And I thought a jogging buddy might make it less horrible. And trust me, I KNOW it is. I hate jogging but when it's all you have access to for working out, pretty much, and you work late nights... Well for me at least, it was better then risking being out of shape." Her eyes went a little dark, as if remembering something, though not in the 'It happened to me' way, but in the 'it happened to some one I knew' way.

"Back up. Yes, that appears to be my weapon's purpose," Terry latched onto that aspect when Seren showed no indication that she knew what anime Terry was referencing. "Throwing shields are shaped differently I imagine, and using an MMORPG as source for fighting techniques seem questionable at best and stupid at worst. I am content to be a phalanx of one." He offered, perhaps he could connect to her that way, having read 300 and watched the movie.
"My girlfriend would have a lot to say about keeping me alive and she hasn't quite complained about stamina." But he refrained from adding that he was something of a pillow king because he was doing his best to not come across as one of those awkward sex-obsessed creepers.

She blinked in surprise at his comment, and then looked pleased at being able to help at all. "Well then you might want to work on upper body strength, like I'm trying to do now..." She sighed. "Which I admit jogging isn't AS helpful with, but still. Stamina. I need to find a way to do some weight training, I guess. Preferably with help from some one who knows what they're doing, because I hear you can really ******** yourself up doing it if you don't." She looked sad for a moment, being reminded of a discussion about this with one of her exes. She shook her head to get that thought out, and refocused. "Yeah, I don't think MMOs, from what I have heard about them, are the best choice for it. I wouldn't think LOTR is either. Especially not the movies. Gods. SHIELD SURFING, for ******** sake." She lifted her brows at his words about his girlfriend, and wolf whistled, GENTLY swatting his shoulder. "Get 'em, Tiger! Glad to hear some people on this island aren't repressed, and are out there having fun. I don't know anyone well enough yet to be enjoyin' those reindeer games, but maybe I'll find a few friends." She laughed a little. "Hope I get the chance to meet your lady, I am looking for new friends."

"Some of the archery and melee fighting in LOTR looks plausible," Terry hedged, "But shield surfing is definitely a no-go. I'm not a penguin." He primly adjusted his coat as he said this.
A squeak escaped his throat at the punch, gingerly he rubbed the spot more out of instinct than trying to numb down pain. "I'm not entirely certain how I ended up with a girlfriend. I got lucky I suppose. You'll meet her eventually. Her name's Kim. She's in the same division as you are." he added, gesturing to the sun symbol on Seren's coat.
"And I guess we could do some stamina training but weight training?" he held his arms out, his lanky arms out and stretched out his equally long legs, "I might snap into pieces. Although I can piggyback my girlfriend easily." He canted his head in realization. Gaining a FEAR shield apparently also augmented one's strength.

She blinked at the mental image of Terry as a penguin, and couldn't resist a chuckle. "No, you're not a penguin, I agree. I don't know what animal I'd compare you to, if I were to do so, but penguin is not it. You're too tall and slender for that. They're all short and squat." She smiled and said, in a wistful tone, "That's the best way to go about it, though. I know when my partners and I were together, I was amazed when the two of them pulled me into their relationship. It startled me, and was amazing, and wonderful." She looked sad, and then shook her head. "ANYWAYS I look forwards to meeting Kim, then." She arched a brow at his legs and arms, and then up at his face. "Yes, we all start somewhere, though. You want to be able to protect her back, right? You'll do a better job if you work on getting some muscle. And I'm not sayin' be a muscle man. You're probably one of those wirey types, muscle wise, I'd guess. You just start small and work your way up. It's the same with stamina building. I just don't know as much about it."

Terry didn't like contemplating too much on the whole protecting his girlfriend back aspect. It might be because anime had conditioned him to expect beta-male protags would have their badass girlfriends do all the protecting and fighting and he would just accidentally survive in the process. It was just so much easier to be passive and let the circumstances dictate his life.
"There should be some sort of training regimen available," he mumbled, self-consciously rubbing at his arms.
It was Agata who picked up on the plural form of partner Seren used and it was Agata that pointed this out to Terry.
"Partners?" he echoed, curious although somewhat glad for a change in topic. The sad expression was the only thing that stopped him from pressing further.

She saw the rubbing, and just patted his shoulder, in a comforting way. "Hey. It's ok to be slender, you know? Not everyone is meant to be large and muscled. Not everyone's body can handle that, even. Being slender is a valid, and attractive, body type." She shook her head and added "You're Life. Your most important asset is your mind. You're not supposed to be a meathead like me." She was teasing, in a friendly way, trying to make him feel better about the fact that he wasn't very muscled. She'd rather her new friend (whether he realized he was or not) be happy with himself. She just didn't want him to not have the stamina to care for himself, if he got in a fight. She'd... honestly thought that using the girlfriend appeal would work. She wasn't at all used to the Beta Male personality. His question made her lips twist a little, and she sighed, then nodded. It wasn't a sigh of 'don't ask' or shame or discomfort, just of not wanting to think about THEM. "Uh. Yeah, I was in a threeway relationship. I had a girlfriend and a boyfriend, and they were together with each other too. Indeed, they were a couple before they met me." She scratched her head, a little, and gazed across the field.

Terry wanted to laugh about being an asset to anyone ever instead of a liability. He was slowly working his way to at mediocrity but it was unlikely he would ever reach it in his lifetime. Not without causing considerable problems in his opinion. But he kept his face blank, retreating to the default of stoicism that had served him so well back before Deus.
He allowed it to drop somewhat when Seren talked of her former relationship. He assumed it was a former relationship, unless the usage of was in her case was due to grammar parallelism instead of referring to a past-tense situation... you know what he was overthinking this and missing the point. That he had only ever heard of open relationships as something that happened to people of the internet and how he'd never met someone one in real life.
"You aren't the jealous type, I take it." He was greedy and didn't think he could handle it.

She sighed, seeing the blank face, and just settled back, not pushing further. She was sure he could do it, but if he didn't want to, she wouldn't try to make him. She looked up at the sky for a long moment, before back at him, wondering vaguely what made him so very passive. His comment about being not being jealous caused her to look very confused. "What would jealousy have to do with it? I... We were a relationship, all three of us. It was a balanced thing, until... Well anyways, it was balanced. I had nothing to be jealous of. It's not like I'd be ok if one of the others decided to go out and like... ******** some side piece. None of us were a side piece, none of us were unequal to anyone else... It was just us, a happy trinity, if you will. I mean, sure, like in any relationships, things came up... But no more then normal?" It was clear she couldn't understand why jealousy would be involved in her relationship.

Terry raised his hands in front of him, brows rising just slightly, these were the extent of his display of placating and fear of having offended. "I'm sorry," he began. "I'm afraid I have no knowledge or experience in that sort of relationship beyond what media has shown."
It was an easy out in Terry's opinion. He didn't feel that comfortable with Seren yet to go too deep into the psychology behind his worldview. "We can talk about something else. Besides my exercise regiment."

She blinked at his apology, then laughed, and shook her head. "Not offended, I'm just confused as to what you meant. Unfortunately, my experience of the media's portrayal of polyamory is less then accurate at best, downright malicious lies at worse." She sighs softly, and shrugged. "But it's often what people know. It's ok, though. I don't blame you for not knowing." She laughed more when he added the caveat on what he did NOT want to talk about. "All right, all right. I wont push you on it. I barely know you after all, it's probably weird of me to do so. What can I say? I sometimes leap without looking. So you mentioned... dragon riding lesbians. Please, explain what that was about. It sounds both utterly bizarre and also completely intriguing."

He let out a sigh of relief that she was not actually upset with him for his assumptions. And that she wasn't going to needle him about the dreaded physicality of being a hunter. He knew she had a point and that there were numerous reasons for him to actually build up on stamina.
But he'd been the quintessential basement dweller until signing his life away (although it wasn't a basement but his old room in his parent's house, but the lifestyle was similar enough to it). There were old habits and routines that he had yet to break free from.
Terry, however, didn't need too much prompting to go into the synopsis of said dragon-riding lesbians. His face took on an actual animated manner here, although it was mostly raised eyebrows, smiling with his eyes, and an actual inflection in tone here and there.
