"Hey there!" Mnyiri waved cheerfully as she stepped up to the sparring ring, rolling her shoulders as she walked. She'd been stretching for a good chunk of the morning in preparation for a few good matches, and she hoped this one could really get her blood pumping.
"I'm not super experienced with fighting so I hope I don't disappoint you." He was fast, charging in with lightning speed but Mnyiri wasn't exactly without her own tips and trips. Spending time on Yael, avoiding the elarian did that to a woman. She rolled out of the way, dodging his blades gracefully. She raised her leg and swung a kick out at his shins.

"So far, you are not." he said, "I was recently witness to expert lightning spellwork - that maneuver was much like lightning." it was a lot to say for a spar, sure, but he was gearing up for his next attack and, perhaps, his talking served as a distraction as he darted back into range. In a move perhaps inspired by his spars against Kaalnia, he attacked from her front... and then let his own momentum cause him to flow into an attack at the back, where her dodge was most likely to go and her block would leave her open.

Everytime she moved the bells in her hair would sound out; sometimes in a flurry of sound that held little rhythm, others with something reminiscent of an actual tune. The sounds themselves came naturally as she fought. She couldn't move fast enough to avoid the entirety of his latest attack, so the bells themselves sent out a shrill trill, coupled with her own surprise.
It seemed like every way she turned he was there and it was starting to get frustrating. Even when she tried to attack her blade was simply too slow to catch him.

He had to train his attack, so that he could strike hard and fast in case magic was not enough. He had to train his endurance, his ability to take hits... everything. His sisters (and his wife) told him it would be easier if he forgot about magic entirely. But they didn't understand - he had to. It was in his blood. And so, he had. He was fast - fast enough to get in another strike past Mnyiri's guard.

If it wasn't apparent before that Mnyiri had been shirking her physical duties in favor of her studies it was now. Of course she had been active; just not in the way that meant carrying a spear for longer than necessary, and her stamina was failing her because of it.
How was she supposed to defend anyone like this? Here she was, openly wheezing and wishing for it just to end, and this was just a practice battle!
She couldn't dodge him. Whatever luck Aisha had bestowed upon her early in the battle had been wrenched away, leaving Mnyiri a large target for her opponent, and when she struck it was with a dampened, tired blade.
