Inna studied the plants in front of her carefully, noting differences in color or pattern, making mental notes about size and pigment. She had never been to these lands before, having been born on a far-off island, and the native flora was something dazzling to her; never before had she seen such tiny purple flowers, or such large, imposing yellow ones.
She wondered, briefly, what their useful properties were. Back home, she had crushed up berries and flowers and just about anything else she could find into healing pastes, health tonics, even stains for her coat. Once, she painted her eyelids with bright red berries to match the sunset, just to feel more closely connected.
More than anything, she just wanted to belong.
Sighing heavily, she folded her wings against her body and settled further into the grass; the field she had found at the base of the mountains seemed desolate in terms of other creatures, which she appreciated. A little peace and quiet never hurt anyone, and in her mind, this was the opportune time to learn as much as possible and establish herself in the area as someone who was supposed to be there, rather than a passing wanderer.
She turned over the tiny purple flowers with a clawed foot, careful to not damage the delicate petals with her sharp talons. Even the smell of these flowers felt so foreign to her; there was a subtle scent she could catch, but could not quite pinpoint. She felt as though it could easily become a familiar scent, one she would want to come back to often.

Meoquanee had wandered off from her large protector again. She wondered if this really was a good idea. Except she didn't want to annoy the large tom cat she hung around with, despite all his actions saying she was doing nothing of the sort. And she just needed some time alone. He was calm and cool, and she was frequently nervous and fidgety.
The tiny bird headed out in search of food. When in doubt, eat! While she preferred insects mostly, occasionally she'd dine upon sweet plants. A field was a perfect place to find both. She'd seen one in the distance and headed toward it. It took awhile for tiny legs to get her where she was going. As she traveled she kept a sharp eye out for those who'd want to prey upon her.
Tahnee padded alongside her friend. "Are you sure this is a good idea?" Her words unconsciously mirroring the bird's thoughts. She liked the big hulking feline and the protect he offered without hesitation. Perhaps she was just biased toward him in some way. She eel-ed through the brush as only a cat could, barely making the grass sway as she passed. Like Meo, she kept on the alert for bigger predators. So it was she who detected the scent of bird up ahead.
"Meo, there's something in the field ahead," she murmured softly. "It smells like a bird." That would interest her friend for sure. Tahnee tried to locate the source.
Meo blinked in surprise at the apparent source. It had to be large for Tahnee to say something like that. She nodded to show she'd heard, and slowed her pace. Creeping and crawling as a bird who'd spend a lifetime raised by a cat could only do. "Woaaah," a breath escaped her as she saw the beautiful white bird in the field. The bird was everything she wish she could have been. Graceful white plumes and long wide wings.
Meo felt jealous for the first time in her life.
