The pool of people Spacewatch did not attack on sight by the premise that they were powered individuals was small. Very small, and very selective in how she generally treated them. She was more than a bit reluctant to say she liked them or thought of them as nice or wanted to express how she thought they were good but she did her best at trying to be a ‘normal’ person. So when she caught sight of Icarus, the senshi she’d tried to beat up and had instead offered her a strange comfort without forcing her to do anything, the young senshi trailed after him at a healthy distance for a while. After about four city blocks she got near enough to muster the courage to ask him- “Is it okay if I um.” Was he patrolling? Maybe. Awkwardly she suffled into view, looking petulant and uncertain. “You know.” Hang out? He was older and stronger but he was nice? “I don’t want to go with the others. They keep telling me that I have to do ‘good’ and save people but it’s all-“ Shoulder lifted then fell. She just wanted to be not-alone alone in a way. “It’s hard.”

It felt weird, being out and about in this new garb provided to him in the form of an upgrade as Invy had called it. What was even worse, was that he had found and hidden Ellis' own henshin pen after the two had gotten into a spat the day he showed up and nearly bled out on their apartment floor. Kavinsky had refused to talk about what had happened and given even less information about his senshidom and how long he had been in the game.
It was unfair, he knew, because all he did was demand things of the redhead without being willing to give even half of it back in return. But, that was how they worked and as he expected, Ellis had backed off once he had promised that they'd talk about it...eventually.
Until then, he was damn sure that he wasn't going to let his best friend from getting more mixed up in this magical soldier bullshit that he didn't even want to be apart of. One of the only reason he was even bothering to patrol right now was so he could find the stupid piece of s**t guardian that had made the mistake of awakening the hidden potential within the one person in the world who had yet to leave him.
It didn't take him too long to realize that he was being followed, the energy signal giving away his stalker alone but he didn't bother himself with whomever it was until they were closer and a small voice was talking to him.
"I don't - " he stopped, voice gruff when he realized who it was. "Yeah, sure." Normally he would turn the person down, but he recognized her and he saw too much of himself in her that he couldn't, even if he wanted.
Muttering a curse in Russian beneath his breath he jerked his head. "Stay close." He had to swallow the word kid back down his throat because he could remember how violently she had reacted last time. "Doing 'good' is bullshit."
He'd tried and look where it got him. A new uniform and a best friend who was at risk of being killed because he was too kind hearted for his own good.

Looking away from him for a while until he gave permission that yes, it was okay to bother him, Spacewatch didn’t really smile so much as she seemed to visibly relax. Her posture not quite as tight or nervous, but still defensive. Always ready to run or fight as if she expected it. “What did you say?” She asked, not understanding the Russain but it sounded bad. Like a curse word. And boy, she did like using those words, (one hand to just be an offensive brat, the other to spook Arthur about her vocabulary). “That word, what’s it mean in English?” She would ask that first, just to be sure he wasn’t insulting her. Darting to stand next to him, she looked up, skeptical that he was really going to tell her the truth anyway. “I thought so. Most adults think it’s easy, that things are just good and I can do good but-“ She slumped her shoulders. “-They told me that I’m not allowed to hurt them, that it’s wrong. They hurt anyone but I can’t hurt them back? To make them stop? It’s stupid.” A huff. “It’s not like asking nicely will do anything.” Again, she looked up at him. "Have you been good?" She gave the word finger air quotes for emphasis.

"Said this s**t is ******** up." Icarus stated plainly, throwing in a shrug because he didn't see the point in lying to the girl. He didn't lie anyway unless it was a life or death thing, like protecting his stupid ******** identity. "Try not to cuss so much in front of kids-- I know you don't like being called a kid but you're younger than me and I'm barely not a kid so don't take it as a damn insult okay?" He spoke quickly and curtly to keep her from protesting or getting huffy with him.
"Whoever's telling you that crap doesn't live the life we do." He was pretty confident in that assessment. "If someone hits you, you hit 'em back. You don't just stand there and take it because someone told you that's how you're the bigger person or whatever." He'd heard that BS advice more times than he could count and it was still garbage. "Don't need to hit them first, but don't take anyone's s**t." Icarus rolled his shoulders back, trying not to stiffen at her next question.
"I guess, hasn't done me any favors though. Still got someone mixed up in s**t they shouldn't be in. ******** cats don't know how to leave people alone. Christ."

Spacewatch learned the translation. Spacewatch repeated the curse right back to Icarus, clearly ready to put this newfound knowledge to use as was only right. She also gave him a look. The 'tell me if I'm saying it right' look. She switched over to a passive pout when he called her a kid and figured he was at least admitting he was wrong, "Role-models are all fake and overrated anyway. They just lie and pretend they're better than others is all." Was her way of saying that she accepted his wording. She didn't want him to be some role-model, just him to be him. It was much easier to be around someone who didn't treat you like you would break from something as dumb as a curse word. Like ******** or bullshit. "Thats what I said though!" She yelled, as he explained why they should hit back. "They're just going to keep doing it unless you give them a reason not to. But- what happened? What did the cats do?" She was genuinely curious. "Arthur says most don't fight. He certainly doesn't. He usually just watched and hides and tells me to not eat a whole pizza when we get delivery." She felt she should explain. "I live with Arthur. He's not my cat, be he's a cat. A good cat." Not a good cat but a good cat. There was a difference.

There was a part of him that knew that teaching the kid this swear was a bad idea, but she was going to do what she wanted anyway. He repeated it, slower this time, so that she could hear each of the syllables before she said it one more time. When her pronunciation was close enough he nodded and was content to move forward.
So he might piss off some stupid cat, who gave a s**t?
"Nah, just gotta find the one that won't bullshit you." His baba had been a great role model before he lost him as far as Icarus was concerned. "But not me. Don't have time to be someone's shitty role model." Nevermind that he'd be garbage at it anyway. <******** awakening people who they shouldn't." He wasn't ever going to stop being bitter over the fact that Ellis was a senshi. Invy had promised she wouldn't wake him and some ******** cat had done it anyway.
"If they don't fight, they're ******** cowards. Your cat sounds like a god damn p***y."

Later on, she would loudly use the curse in front of Arthur and possibly a few adults at a bookstore, but hey, they would all deserve it for telling her not to ready from that section, (its not like it was 50 shades or anything, it was BETTER). Until then, it would be stored in her curse word repertoire. "So." She eyed Icarus with a sly look. "By that logic, you're a better role-model than most then." She smirked, feeling like a smug cat because no doubt, the teen probably didn't want to be looked up to, (outside the context of height). "See, you don't even try to lie about how bad a role-model you'd be, that makes you better. You just keep making yourself better by being worse at it." She laughed and smiled, feeling like it was a rather funny joke at Icarus's expense. "Well. I mean. Arthur is a cat. Being a p***y is kind of what he is. He does try though, to be brave. He's wanting to come out with me but- I'm scared to take him." She sighed and looked at her shoes. "He can't fight, and I don't think I could protect him and what happens if he got hurt I can't take him to a vet and what if a youma got him and it's all-" She huffed. "I wish he would fight but I also don't? Does that make sense?"

Icarus rolled his eyes at her, waving her statements away with his hand because he was not getting into a squabble with some kid who wanted to poke fun at the idea that he might be a competent role model.
He wanted to tell her that she was being insane (and wrong) but didn't think it would do any good. "As long as you take responsibility for your own ******** choices, I don't care what you call me," he conceded because he couldn't see a way to talk out of the concept.
Grateful for the shift in conversation he rolled his eyes again. "Christ." Wouldn't she give him a break? "Cat's can fight. Mine fights." Invy was scrappy as hell and had saved his a** more than once. "If yours won't that's cause he chooses to. He's got claws."
But so did they, didn't they?
"If he gets hurt, you figure out a way to take care of the wound and if you can't you find someone who will. There's enough bleeding hearts on our 'side' and you're young. They'll fall over themselves to help you."

She made that PFFFT sound that every bratty middle-schooler who thought they knew best did when in fact they knew nothing at all. "The worst I would call you is a- uh." She hesitated, wondering if insulting Icarus was the right move to make. "Well, I'd call you something so bad you'd blush. Besides, I DO make good choices, it's everyone else who makes bad ones. Like your shoes." She pointed at his feet. "Space didn't do you any favors come winter." She was a typical kid, going a mile a minute. "But yeah, Arthur has claws but he's bad at fighting. Like.. really bad." She scowled at nothing in particular. "As for help, Arthur was the only one who really helped me after... after." She went silent, eyes downcast and feeling suddenly very stupid for even thinking about it. She was stronger than this, she wasn't going to cry in front of Icarus. Not again. "Nobody helps you. Not really. They help you until you're a burden."

"I doubt you could make me blush," Icarus shot back, giving the girl a disapproving look. "Space didn't do me favors period. If it gave a s**t about us, it wouldn't have mixed up us in this bullshit."
His existence hadn't been exactly sunshine and rainbows before this magical boy crap but it had been better and less dangerous. <********, he was convinced that being part of the mafia would be less dangerous than being some stupid sailor scout.
"Hey, he's your cat. Teach him to be better and...I can't do much for you," because he was barely doing enough to get himself and Ellis by, "but I'll listen." And likely tell her what bullshit it all was but that was besides the point.
"The system, the government and s**t, won't do you any good but there will be someone who'd help you. Most people in this stupid mess don't know what the ******** they're doing, me included, but there's gotta be someone. We can figure it out."
What was this? Did he actually give a s**t about this kid?

Was that a challenge she just heard? A question if she could do something? Oh it was, and like hell the little once chibi was going to let that stand. "I can totally make you blush!" She opened her mouth to issue her insult then blushed herself because no, it was bad and she felt bad even thinking of calling Icarus something like that. "But you don't deserve it so I won't." There, matter settled. Staring at the ground, she listened in silence after that, only going up next to him and standing there awkwardly. "Do you think it's possible then? That- that maybe I could become normal?" Her voice caught, uncertainty clear. "That's all I want. Just to be normal again." "You listen and it helps but.. I don't know if I'm allowed to be normal."

Despite his desire to pretend like the kid didn't mean anything to him, Icarus found himself smiling at her determination. He didn't quite get how or when they bonded, but they did and the man didn't like many people, but damnit he liked Spacewatch.
"You want the truth?" He asked, despite knowing he was going to tell her it anyway. Icarus made it a point to not lie. "Probably not. Not the normal you used to have anyway." His teeth grit, jaw clenching as he thought about how many times he had wanted things to be "normal" again only to realize that would never happen.
"You'll find a new normal." That he was certain of. "You're allowed to be anything you want kid. ******** anyone that says otherwise. But, you got me y'know. I'm here."
...Somewhere a dark and oppressive aura flared to life nearby.istoleyurvamps if i don't do the thing, we'll never get to it lol

She wilted at the truth she didn't want to hear. She knew it was true, but she had in her own way, wanted to be lied to. To pretend that yes, she could have what she'd lost. She'd get it back eventually. Just- "Different Normal. I guess I could work with that, might even turn out okay." She smiled at Icarus, doing her best to put on that brave and hopeful front that was as close as she got to just lying with the cliche 'I'm okay' bit. Then the pulse of darkness came, and Spacewatch paled, nearing Icarus out of reflex, homing in on his comforting power aligned with her own. "Did you feel that? I- I'm not imagining that right?"

"It's hard," Icarus started, stiffening when Spacewatch pointed out the energy signal. It felt familiar in the way that terrible things always did, the kind that left you with cold sweat and the hair on the back of your neck standing up. Large hands reached for Spacewatch's arm to pull her behind him.
It didn't matter that she was also a super, she was younger and he was going to protect her. (Or try.)
"Stay back." He growled between grit teeth and a clenched jaw. Normally he would say run but he knew that it wouldn't be easy not if--
Mother ********>.
The grip he had on his companion tightened as he tried to reign in his instinctual panic with the man in the cloak with the ******** bird scythe stepped into view.
"Well, well," rumbled his low, raspy voice. "What do we have here."

Spacewatch wouldn't normally hide behind someone these days. She'd normally resist and try to fight and demand to be recognized. But the dark energy she felt was not just chaos. It held an edge to it she remembered from the rift. Cruelty, malice, evil. It crawled under her skin and made her throat tighten. It was the feeling she had felt when she saw her parents, lying dead in her home. Icarus's grip tightened and Spacewatch was shaking. This man was clearly powerful, and she got the feeling, that it was not a matter of winning a battle, but surviving one. And Spacewatch, for all her fear dealt with it in a manner she knew how. "None ya Business Pinkie!" She made a shoo shoo motion.
