- It always began so innocently. "Excuse me, sir? Do you, perchance, have any food you can spare? I'm quite hungry and have not had much success in finding food lately..." A soft, meek smile combined with submissive body language were all it took for her to gain the undivided attention of the average male. Although times were tough, wolves were social creatures, and Seika capitalized on this innate need for interaction. Very few would turn away a lovely, little female in need. Unfortunately for her, this particular wolf did not have any food on hand; however, he was looking for a meal and he would not mind sharing. Though she smiled outwardly, she smirked inwardly. A predictable response, one that worked in her favor. "A hunt?" she frowned. "I'm not very good at hunting anything big enough to feed two... but I'm good at other things."
It was a baited statement, and he ate it up. "No no, nothing like that," she chuckled. Males like this one before her were too easy to play. They lived for their instincts, primal pleasure driving their every action. It was so easy to manipulate this instinct, too, though Seika would never complain about her life being made easier by the witlessness of others. And so, she manipulated him. "Although, I must say, you are a handsome wolf... do muscles come with that dashing grin?" A little flattery went a long way, and often led to predictable responses, like it did in this situation. "I have an idea to put these muscles to work, if you care to hear it?" He did, so she told him about her devious plan to perform a heist instead of a hunt. There was a bear who lived nearby, and he was a very mean creature, really. The bears were ravenous now. With winter swiftly approached, they – much like the wolves – were running out of time to prepare for the upcoming, dreadfully long season. Unlike wolves, however, bears partook in the ingenious practice of hibernation. Sleeping through the winter must have been infinitely times more pleasant than enduring it consciously. She knew that the practice came with certain requirements, however; order to hibernate bears needed to eat a considerable amount of food, and so some entered this frenzy in which they practically ate non-stop around this time of year. This bear was one of those bears, and surely he was hunting as they spoke. Seika could not imagine that this bear would take too kindly to a wolf in his midst while he fed. She proposed the idea that, while the bear was eating some fresh kill, one of them should distract the bear so the other can steal the meal, and, in the end, both of them would reap – or eat, rather – the rewards. Another accurate prediction on her part, for this mindless male offered to be the one to distract while Seika, small and quick as she was, swiped the food. "It's settled then."
They found the bear gnawing at the body of some unfortunate ungulate. Her stomach growled in response to the smell of the fresh kill; she was a lot hungrier than she knew. She laid low, concealed by some bushes in the shadow of the tree line, watching and waiting. Luckily for her, was not long till the unwitting male dire made his appearance. The bear looked up from his meal – though his jaws did not leave it – and growled. The male moved closer, causing the bear to finally lift his head and snarl in warning. Undeterred, the male continued his approach. Seika could not deny his bravery; he had not hesitated once this entire time. She chuckled, flicking her tail with amusement. 'All to impress, hm?' She was almost flattered. A part of her hoped the male would not be hurt – it was not her nature to wish ill will upon a normal, naïve soul – but she had no intention of staying to find out for herself, not that the male knew that else he would not have been so keen on this plan of hers. There were parts of her plan which she did not share with the male, and for good reason, too. He would not have liked it...
Soon the bear decided that the wolf had come close enough. With a roar, he launched himself forward, over the carcass and at the dire. The dire turned to the side and dashed away towards the trees opposite of where Seika laid. The bear, aggravated with the boldness of the wolf who had been heedless of his multiple warnings, chased after the male, unaware of the presence of the she-wolf skulking in the shadows. Seika smirked, pleased with the events that had transpired all according to her plan.
Once the dire and the bear were a safe distance away, she prowled out of hiding and moved swiftly towards the abandoned kill with her lips curled into a satisfied smirk. The carcass was heavier than she would have liked, but it was not heavy enough to be more than she could handle. She fastened her scarf around what remained of the neck of the ungulate – a nice trick her dad taught her, though it always took more time than she liked – took its two hind legs in her jaws, lifted it up, and trotted back into the trees. This crafty trick was the only hope she had of carrying this dead creature. She would not get very far dragging it away; she met get away from the bear, but the male would certainly find her eventually. She had no desire to meet with the gallant male after he returned from his altercation with the bear either. Contrary to what she told the male, she was not really one for sharing, and she certainly was not short of success in finding food. She was a thief, tried and true and, truly, she was a master of her craft.
