Her head was pounding as she looked over the lastest information she had to sort through. Dozens of files, e-mails, donations. Add this to her workload yesterday and Rin was feeling a little under pressure. The Japanese woman sat at her computer in the office, door open, blinds drawn, and only a small desk lamp casting a ghastly glow on her face. The black, plain eye patch blocked a good portion of her face.

Ever since Romano opened and Rin got her position the students have fondly called her The Witch of Romano. She wasn't exactly approachable, but her door was always open to anyone with questions. Once someone did approach her, she was actually quite a good listener and tried to be engaging. Tried being the key word there. She didn't have many people skills.

Since Padmavati's eye returned to the giant naga-youma, Rin had found herself even more closed off than before. At least with a youma eye she still had two. Now she felt the stares even more. In her head she could hear the whispering, the judgement and rumors circulating about how she lost her eye. No one had ever really asked how. They just assumed one thing or another.

With a giant sigh, Rin pushed her bangs out of her face and pulled her long braid from behind her to lean back comfortably in her computer chair.

"Pah! Stupid computer locked up again."

Poppy tried not to listen to rumors, usually; she wasn't particularly perceptive at the best of times, which made it easier - even if the nickname was meant in all fondness, like it was with Rin's, Poppy kept it on the outskirts. Poppy wasn't particularly sociable at the best of times, though; she was clever enough to pass her classes, mediocre enough to never get any particular callouts or awards. If it hadn't been for who she was in uniform, it was dubious she might have ever qualified for Romano's or wanted to qualify.

But she was who she was, and she knew how to hide bruises most of the time. There were rumors about her, too; mild-mannered Poppy, too shy to speak up most of the time, with surprising physical ability - and how frequently she came to classes with her fingers bandaged and clumsy, tired, tired, always tired.

Today she'd come to see Rin for no particular reason, aside from the usual 'I handle financials on the student level and I'd like you to check it over if that's okay, maybe?'. There was no need to knock - the door was open already. "Um, Ms. Tanikawa - do you need anything?" Poppy winced in sympathy, gentle. "You look a little rough."

Her good eye looked to the door at a voice, and a schooled expression appeared on her face as Rin actually turned her whole head to see who it was. Ah, this one was... Poppy, if memory served her correct.

Then there was sympathy and Rin's eye hardened slightly. She didn't need sympathy or pity. In fact, the answer on the tip of her tongue would have sliced through this one's spirit and mood, so the Japanese woman held it in check.

"Not unless you can figure out why my computer keeps locking up when I try to access the files for students in debt." Honestly Rin needed to check to see who sent money in and put the figures in, send out new balances and totals. None of this could happen since her computer hated her like everything else in this school did. "Please refrain from talking about how I look. I know how I look." She didn't want or need children's opinions. Children were mean spirited when it came to someone different than them.

"I can, um - " she'd started talking before she'd thought about it, really, just out of desire to be helpful - if Poppy was someone else, she would have been annoyed with herself, but this sort of verbal flub was out of genuine desire to assist. That meant it was alright, as far as she was concerned. "I can try? I'm - I mean - I'm sorry that I brought it up, it was rude."

There was a possibility she could do it; generally locking up just meant one thing was wrong out of the way, in Poppy's experience, but then again her experience was limited.
