❧The branch in this jar is angular and geometrical, pruned with a precision you would normally never find in nature. Its leaves glow with a strange, warm light, and when you hold it, you feel the shape of stories in your mind that come from a time far flung from the present day. When the wind rustles the leaves on this branch, the sounds it makes mock celtic tongues, singing of heroes that have long since passed through this world. Can you make sense of the stories this snapped-off branch has to sing to you?
❧The stoat (Mustela erminea), also known as the short-tailed weasel, is a mammal of the genus Mustela of the family Mustelidae native to Eurasia and North America, distinguished from the least weasel by its larger size and longer tail with a prominent black tip. Originally from Eurasia, it crossed into North America some half million years ago, where it naturalized and joined the notably larger, closely related native long-tailed weasel.
❧The name ermine is often, but not always, used for the stoat in its pure white winter coat, or the fur thereof. In the late 19th century, stoats were introduced into New Zealand to control rabbits, where they have had a devastating effect on native bird populations.
❧The stoat is classed by the IUCN as least concern, due to its wide circumpolar distribution, and because it does not face any significant threat to its survival. It was nominated as one of the world's top 100 "worst invaders".
❧Ermine luxury fur was used in the 15th century by Catholic monarchs, who sometimes used it as the mozzetta cape. It was also used in capes on images such as the Infant Jesus of Prague.
❧In Irish mythology, stoats were viewed anthropomorphically as animals with families, which held rituals for their dead. They were also viewed as noxious animals prone to thieving, and their saliva was said to be able to poison a grown man. To encounter a stoat when setting out for a journey was considered bad luck, but one could avert this by greeting the stoat as a neighbour. Stoats were also supposed to hold the souls of infants who died before baptism. In the folklore of the Komi people of the Urals, stoats are symbolic of beautiful and coveted young women. In the Zoroastrian religion, the stoat is considered a sacred animal, as its white winter coat represented purity. Similarly, Mary Magdalene was depicted as wearing a white stoat pelt as a sign of her reformed character. One popular European legend had it that a white stoat would die before allowing its pure white coat to be besmirched. When it was being chased by hunters, it would supposedly turn around and give itself up to the hunters rather than risk soiling itself. The former nation (now province) of Brittany in France uses a stylized ermine-fur pattern in forming the Coat of Arms and Flag of Brittany.

❧Standing at 5'10'' with a slim, athletic, yet not muscular build, Mark hasn't changed much since his teenage years in terms of demeanor or appearance. He still carries himself with that awkward wonkiness of a seventeen year old, giving him an approachable vibe that is both relaxed and non-threatening. Everything about him leans heavily on the comically expressive, with his emotions displayed openly on his sleeve which again adds to that air of approachability and friendliness.
His hair is two-toned, with a light beige-grey reminiscent of a worn newspaper on top and a worn inky color on the bottom, worn in a long ponytail and slightly spiked at the bangs. Soft honey brown eyes are made even softer by a pair of simple black frame glasses and his skin a pale peachy color, calloused at the fingers and bearing scars on his arms from Chittery's nails. Just below his right deltoid is a tattoo of the notes for the guitar rift in Journey’s ‘Don’t Stop Believing’. You know the one.
Mark's work tends to supply him with clothing that fits the job he is supposed to be doing, ranging from the ridiculous full on clown costume to a more casual painters smock over everyday clothing. Generally leaning towards comfortable yet flashy, his casual outfits range in style and color to the point one could argue he has no one style. Regardless, his clothing is always well fitting and slightly worn.

❧Mark’s an eccentric free-spirit who exists solely in the present day. To him the past is irrelevant to how one should interact with the present and future, and exists solely for the sake of pursuing the pleasures in life that one was not yet able to achieve. It is because of this he quickly dismisses topics surrounding not just his own past but that of others as well. Unless it immediately impacts his own day to day life, Mark forgives and forgets quite easily, as he does not enjoy being weighted down by negative feelings. The only exception to this being his resentment towards the nature of the foster care system, which he will vehemently bad mouth whenever given the chance.
Creative and expressive, not to mention incredibly quirky, Mark's work as a children's entertainer only seemed to be the natural and he is deeply emotionally fulfilled through the art of bringing joy to their young faces with his act.. A quick learner and eager teacher, he imparts whatever knowledge sought from him with great enthusiasm. He places a great deal of value in individuality and unique experiences, often filling his life with these things in an attempt to enrich himself. Unfortunately, it sometimes comes across that Mark is a bit spacey and lacking the responsibility to commit to anything long term, and while the former is certainly true the latter is not. He merely chooses the things he wishes to be responsible for very carefully.

❧Born to a pair of semi-famous musicians, it was no surprise that much like his parents Mark had a gift and appreciation for the very field he was constantly surrounded by. Despite this, his parents chose to center not on the boy’s musical talents but on creating a well rounded, well socialized child who was encouraged to pursue many interesting subjects. This healthy lifestyle lasted until Mark was eight, when during a night he was spending at another child’s slumber party an electrical fire caught in his family's home, killing his parents and leaving him orphaned.
Following the death of his parents, Mark was shipped off into the foster care system, which quickly realized his natural aptitudes and forced him into the very training that his parents had been so against in order to draw attention and funding to the system, centering primarily on competitive piano - an instrument Mark later came to heavily resent. This lasted until he was sixteen, when he ran away from his current foster home, hopped the first bus he could and landed himself Durem.
Homeless and jobless, it was by fortune alone that Mark managed to garner the pity of one Chester Mourly, who took the boy in as an apprentice of sorts for his at the time rather bland children’s party act. As time went on however, the pair proved to work well together, ultimately allowing Chester to gather the funds to create the modest children’s entertainment company that Mark is now employed at and thrives in.
The company's most recent purchase, a monkey by the name of Chittery, has since been shoved into Mark’s act and home, as Chester is too old to care for the animal. The energetic animal serving as Mark’s partner and the bane of his existence.

❧Mark’s apartment isn’t anything special. Located in the same building that house the company he works for and owned by his boss, it’s convenient and that’s about it. To one side is Chester, living in the larger apartment and to the other a smaller apartment serving as ‘office space’ for the company which will one day be Emyr’s if he so chooses to take it. The location is not perfect, situated more towards the business side of Durem, but it’s nice enough with ample parking, a nearby bus and subway station and no other tenants besides Chester.
The apartment itself is in a current state of disarray. Emyr’s room, which used to be used as storage and isn’t even technically a room so much as a loft with a partition for privacy is still a work in progress. Still, the Raevan has a fair bit of space to himself and his own bathroom so things could be worse. Especially considering Mark’s own room is a hot mess as most of the boxes that had been stored upstairs had been moved to his sitting area until they could move them to the office next door.
Chittery seems to have a decent amount of space as well. The open space of the loft that normally would look down into the room below has been decked out with lots of colorful ropes and wooden dangling toys for the capuchin to play and crawl around on.

Each staff member was hand-picked by either Mark or Chester for their skills in their chosen field and with children. As of late they are trying to make connections with various local venues in order to create mutually beneficial partnerships.
Note: Van has picture of company logo on side. ❧Mark’s primary source of travel when he is entertaining a medium sized party. The van is big enough to carry any equipment he might need. Unfortunately, due to the fact he is often traveling around in it the van is a bit of a pigsty.

A white-headed capuchin that Chester purchased in order to draw more attention to the company, Chittery and Mark have a bit of a love/hate relationship. While the man certainly doesn’t hate the animal in the traditional sense of the word he is often irritated by the creature’s unwillingness to cooperate with him outside of their performances. Perhaps just a tad too intelligent, Chittery has a mind of his own, though is highly susceptible to bribes -- especially the peanuts that Mark keeps in his pockets.

A strange man indeed. When Chester and Mark first met both of them seemed to have hit rock bottom. Chester had been struggling as a freelance ‘magician’ and Mark was a homeless runaway without a penny to his name. Despite not being the best place financially either, Chester took the boy in and ten years later the two run a profitable company together. A bit over-zealous and sporting an abundance of ideas, Chester tends to start things that Mark later on has to finish but he also serves as the closest thing to a father figure that Mark has.

While her appearance had been a bit offputting at first Mark got over it quickly and now the two have made an agreement to exchange some new, more fun business cards in exchange for helping Vesna with her ukulele.
