Deep in Eterna Forest, when one would expect themselves to be lost forever, they may instead find the trees slowly thinning. Light filters to the ground, Eterna Forest's shrouded forest giving way to hills and natural orchards. This marks the pass into the borders of the Kingdom of Elchaine, though there are still miles yet of open fields and sunny forests to travel until the capitol can be reached. Though its borders can be completely circled in only two days' travel, this small kingdom boasts a rich history and many long-standing traditions.
Elchaine is a kingdom of harmony, where pokemon and humans live as equals. The capitol overflows with trees and parks. Deep waterways cut through the western edge and flow into the clear river where many pokemon make their home. Outside of the capitol, most humans live in shelters open to the elements, a design allowed by the kingdom's mild weather patterns. Huge swathes of land are dedicated to farming, and the rivers coming down from the mountain bring with them plenty of fresh fish.
Humans take care of those things that pokemon cannot do themselves, and the pokemon return the favor. The promise of care and companionship, the camaraderie of shared work and goals- these things tie the people and pokemon together. To them, the concept of pokeballs is foreign, even unsettling.
At the center of it all rests the castle, where the rulers and their heirs live. Tradition dictates there always be two heirs, a human and a pokemon, and that they shall rule together. A small order of knights, consisting of the aura-sensitive, protect the royal family and the kingdom. Most of these knights are lucario, though there are exceptions. Above all, a knight must be able to act as a translator between the heirs and the citizens, both pokemon and human.
The kingdom does not see many visitors, and interacts little with the outside world. Though there is limited technology, most citizens prefer to live using it minimally. Many will opt to use candles or a fire instead of electricity to light or heat their home. The largest repositories of technology can be found in the kingdom's library and hospital.

K U R A Z the Lucario A knight of the kingdom and retainer of the princess Amalia. He has great belief in the kingdom's and his knighthood's ideals. He takes his job seriously, so it is difficult to catch him in his more relaxed state (Amalia does not help with this, little scamp). In the past he trained and partnered with Mael, an aura-sensitive human. Mael's betrayal hit him deeply, and he is still recovering from it.

Tybalt is constantly confused by the informal relationship between Kuraz and Amalia though; he's clearly thrown off balance by the princess.

M A E L the Traitor-Knight Once a hailed knight of the kingdom but now a thief wrapped in mystery. As a rare human with the ability to use aura, Mael made a fine knight and a strong partner for Kuraz. He left the kingdom for unknown reasons, stealing the princess Amalia's unhatched egg in the process. Kuraz was sent to track him down and bring the egg back. It was at this time Riley encountered them both. For reasons known only to him, he stole two of Riley's pokemon and escaped. Later he lost the egg and other pokemon to Riley and Kuraz's combined strength, but whatever his plans are he remains an enigmatic figure in both Riley and Kuraz's minds, and the memory of the kingdom he betrayed.

It was only after they had been flying over the forest for a while before Riley realized her error. She had little clue where to go, save a vague idea of the correct direction based on the way Kuraz had left when they parted. Eterna Forest was less of a maze when seen from above, but still daunting. "Zeke, keep an eye out for the rock. You remember, right?" The large crobat had already located the rock with his echolocation, but had no way to tell Riley that. He simply kept flying at a steady pace until it was time to sink below the treetops so she could see for herself. He landed by the large mossy rock, preening under Riley's praise. "Thank you, Zeke." She rubbed his side gratefully, then returned him to his pokeball. They were near the edge of the forest, and she knew it wouldn't be long before she reached Kuraz's home.

She held the small incense stick out to Mochi. The monkey breathed out softly, and a flame flickered briefly over a single stick. A small wisp of smoke rose from the stick along with a scent thick with herbs and spices. "Okay, that should be good..." She didn't want to just stay in one place though, so while it was burning and beginning to work its magic she made a space for it in her bag. She had to be careful, because if it jostled it could go out or cause trouble, but she was able to get it to stick firmly inside. Just as she finished a wild pokemon, the first to be drawn from the scent, appeared. Riley smiled. "Seul, could you take this first one?"

After her first catch, Riley released Noel and Nima, who could both use the experience. "Don't wander too far," Riley said to them. With that she set off, traveling through the surprisingly dense forest with Mochi at her side. When another pokemon appeared from the bushes, Riley directed Noel to take care of it.

This forest reminded her of a fairytale, though there was something else Riey picked up on that she couldn't place. Trees twisted densley together; a knobbly rowan twisting around an oak naturally, its boughs full of thick leaves and red berries. Mochi leaped up, pulling a handful off in her hand. Riley watched with interest, but ended up snorting when Mochi immediately spat the berries out. Apparently they didn't taste very good. At least, Mochi didn't like them. Riley wondered if the next pokemon she spotted lived nearby and ate the berries.

Not for the first time, Riley wondered about the mysterious powers of the incense. She would need to ask Kuraz about it when she got back, but it seemed to her that not all of these pokemon could be native to here. Riley fancied that maybe there was something "extra" to the pots; maybe they were connected to Dialga, who warped time to allow pokemon attracted y the scent to reach it before it went out. Or maybe Palkia was drawn to it, warping space so the scent reached every corner of teh world. That gave Riley another thought- she wanted to ask Kuraz if this kingdom had any patron legendaries. Her hometown of twinleaf, for example, had the nearby lake spirit. Riley was surprised by another pokemon that appeared, making her giggle at the thought that it could be the patron of this place.

The trees grew further apart, giving way to a wide mostly flat area of thick grass spotted with trees. It almost felt like a natural orchard, though Riley couldn't tell what kind of trees were here. It made keeping an eye on Noel and Nima easier. She was happy that the two seemed eager to explore without keeping in Riley's sight because it meant they had mostly gotten over the experience of being stolen, but it made her nervous. She just couldn't quite get over feeling protective of them. At least they came quickly when called to help with another pokemon.

Riley almost tripped over something. Looking down, she saw it to be a small, shriveled apple. Or it looked like one. Curious, she glanced at the trees above. "Do you see any apples?" she asked Mochi. She was distracted by a wild pokemon, but when she turned back after catching it Mochi shook her head. "Huh."

It was an intriguing mystery. Where had the apple come from? If it was from the trees, where had the rest of them gone- and if it wasn't from the trees, what had left it there. Riley called Nima and Noel over and showed it to them, asking the two to keep an eye out for another one (or a matching scent). Before they ran off, she captured another pokemon drawn in by the incense.

Briefly, Riley considered that the incense might have brought a pokemon near that came with an apple. But that didn't quite make sense, since as far as she could tell the apple was at least older than the hour she'd had her incense burning. It wasn't more than an idle curiosity however, so Riley continued on her way. After a few minutes she had forgotten about it, distracted by the appearance of another pokemon.

Riley paused against the trunk of a tree, pulling out her pokedex to take stock of what she had captured so far. Her dex had a filter feature, which she'd used to get it to only show one type, and then to only show first-stage pokemon because the incense didn't attract evolved ones. Then it was easy to see which pokemon's entries were filled in so she knew what to keep an eye out for. It was a little tricky, because some pokemon, like eevee, had more than one evolution, so she might want to catch more than one of the first stage.

After a while, Riley noticed that Noel and Nima were growing reluctant to come over and fight- they were much more interested in trying to play hide and seek. It didn't work very well when one of them was always running off to help Riley. That was okay though.. Riley had been thinking ever since the renaissance fair that she would like to figure out how to evolve Vanyel. So when the next pokemon came, she released him to fight it.

Afterwards Vanyel turned to Riley. His eyes roamed all around, searching. "Vanyel, could you come here?" When Vanyel hesitated, she added, "Seul isn't out right now... I wanted to show you something." Confused, the kirlia stepped forward gingerly, though the fear he had once shown as a ralts around her was only a trace. Mochi tactfully retreated, heading for a wild pokemon she had spotted.
