History: As the only daughter, H'lin has been taught at a very early age not to take crap from any man and how to protect herself. A lot of it was how to fight dirty and how to make the loudest fit possible. She often followed her parents around, watching and learning.
H'lin learned to flint knapping and wood carve from various friends of her parents and various men and women that came and went. She had a knack to find the best place and angle to shape and split the stone into useful items.
Things have always been a mix of boring, nerve wrecking, and world changing excitement. The biggest changes had to be her elder brothers impression and then her own nearly a eleven turns later. She couldn't remember when Locke impressed and it only started to seem less of a fluke when V'ail found his partner at a dinky weyrhold. It was now a possibility.
And one thing that they took was that chance, so when they happened to end at a weyr that had eggs hardening on the sands they tried to stay and watch. The trip to the north was one of the longest contracts for protect they have ever taken, and the first time and last H'in would ever get on a ship.
The North was different, but enjoyable when she finally got on solid land. They traveled from Fort Weyr up to High Reaches and then down to Nabol to get raw ores. Nabol was where she met her bonded and perhaps one of the strangers clutching grounds she had been at. Nabol was a hold not a weyr and everyone seemed a bit edgy.
They stayed to see what would hatched while the trade caravan took in all that Nabol hold had to offer. At first she believed only Nash would impress, finding his bonded early. All the eggs seemed to be hatched when snout poked out from the egg shells, and slowly a brown worked his way out of the sand having been partly buried.
He shook himself and rainbow eyes met her and a a voice spoke, comforting like layers of wool blankets and gleaming glints of gold and flickering of candle flames.
After a tense talk, they decided to leave Nabol with the hatchlings instead of staying. Two week later, the hatchlings were tucked into a empty wagon and they were making their slow way back down. They managed to keep the hatchlings fed and oiled, though some of the food might have been gathered by less then legal means.
H'lin was very glad that they got to traveled between when they reach the harbor then on ship, and they spent the rest of the time in the camp with their grandparents until the rest of the family finished the long journey back by ship.
H'lin and Taseneth work more as packhorses for the mercenary group, their strength making it easy to more the camp from place to place and get the basics set up.
