Kitchen duty.
One of the more peaceful assignments, as far as Rhys could tell. The kitchen seemed normal enough, and the food didn't move on its own nor have a funny glow of some kind so it felt safe enough. Other than the volume of prep that had to be done it really wasn't bad at all. There was a mountain of stuff to clean and prep when he came in earlier that afternoon, but luckily he wasn't alone. Currently he was stationed in front two bins--one slowly filling up with potato peel and the other of peeled potatoes--he briefly looked over his shoulder at his partner.
"So," he started, eyes already back on the half-peeled potato. "It's cool if I just peel all of these, right? That's why they left the whole damn bag out?"Meegane Hope this works for ya. If not, I can make changes. No biggie.

The huntress obviously arrived earlier than Rhys for a reason, she sat on a chair. When Rhys saw her, she was having a mouthful of something before she gave him a glance. If the black hair asian was a weather, she's undoubtedly an overcast. While pushing the one-bite macaron into one side of her cheeks like a hamster, she wondered which idiot arranged her to kitchen duty. They really didn't care if she'd blow it up or not. It was already the third one she ate as they started peeling potato. She gave the knife in her hand a long stare before answering his question, "Obviously throwing us a load of tedious stuffs so we won't bother their jobs." She remembered the hunter that she only saw a few times. "Maybe Cafeteria might have potato dishes on the menu the coming few days." Potato was a good food, it filled your hunger easily and can be made into many varieties. She spaced out for a moment and the knife slid along the side of her thumb. First a thin pink line then beads of blood exuded, she frowned at the wound feeling like a needle sting. That was only her first potato.

"I like potatoes," he started, his focus still mostly on the potato he had in his hand. It was getting to the point of being too slippery because it was almost completely peeled, so he was being extra careful. He'd avoid any kind of cuts if he could. "Guess it's just a matter of having to peel more than a dozen at a time. My hand's starting to cramp."
He glanced over at her again, saw a bit of red on her hand, and frowned. That made the idea of meals with these potatoes a little less...appetizing, but he wasn't so naive as to think that all the food prep her was 100% sanitary.
"Careful." Rhys jabbed the knife he had in his hand toward a drawer. "I think there might be some band-aids over there."
Then it was back to peeling. "Do you remember working in the kitchen much before coming here?"

The bloods didn't get onto the potato at all, she was frowning for another reason. She put down the knife and stood up to located the drawer he pointed to, quickly wrapped her wound and got back to her work. On her thumb, there was several Wonder Women printed on the band-aid. Once she noticed Rhys's eyes were on it, she frowned again. "No choice." If it's not Justice League, Emoji, My Little Pony, it was safari animal, enchanted unicorn or other cartoon characters. The petite huntress then picked up another macaron before she peeled the unfinished potato. "Before coming......" She got into her own thought and paused a long while. "Not really, I was forbidden to get close to kitchen."

The pause in her reply had him glance over again, knife paused yet again--it'd probably take him a good five more minutes to finish this one potato at the rate he was going--to see what was going on with her. She looked a little drawn into her own thoughts so he didn't say anything and went back to his potato.
"Forbidden seems a little strong," he said with a little scoff.
Third potato done! He dropped it into his "finished" bin and picked up a brand new one and started peeling anew. "Did you burn one down before or something?"

The blue eyes gave another glance when Rhys dropped his third peeled potato into the bin. She then looked at the one still in her hand and pressed her lips. It was not a nice feeling to have the fact that she couldn't do a simple task like that threw onto her face. She heard his tone but didn't look at him, her eyes casted down at the potato. "Not really. 'am the type who put raw egg into microwave and add oil onto fire, just like that." The petite huntress answered in a monotous voice. Finally she did with her first, it got unbelivably smaller but at least it's a smooth one without any brown bit of the skin. She held it up towards the light and then tossed it into the bin with an uninterested expression. "How about you?"

Rhys paused his knife skills yet again when she answered him. He lifted his eyes briefly to the microwave and the range, then flicked them over to Shu. "That...do the people giving us these assignments know that you probably shouldn't be in here, then?"
He wasn't that worried, at least not yet. They were only at the prep work portion of working in the kitchen, and it didn't involve using any of the big appliances so he doubted he was in any real physical danger. Still, it gave him pause, but he was back to peeling in no time.
"I was in the kitchen a lot, yeah. Still only know the basic stuff, though. You know, fry eggs, toast some bread, sometimes I could manage an edible soup. That's about it."

She gave him a roll of her eyes to his obviously stupid question, "If only they know......" She squinted her eyes like a cat when she sensed his doubt over her. Yes, she is a dangerous person to the kitchen but she didn't enjoy being judged. Hearing what Rhys said, however, her expression softened a little bit. "My sisters used to make me pancake I like, foods I enjoy eating. Nothing fancy but full of love." What she didn't tell him was when she cooked with her sisters, nothing horrible happened. Foods were edible and tasty, they were the magicians who always brought her miracles.

Rhys worked quickly on his current potato, the peel coming off with relative ease (though the end-product was a lot smaller than it started), as he listened to Shu reminisce about her family. He never really had one that he could speak of with any kind of fondness so he stopped peeling for a second, picked up a loose potato skin and threw it at her.
"Let's skip the family talk, yeah?" he said perhaps with too gruff of a tone, then finished off his current potato and picked another one up.

When he finished, all of a sudden, the softness was gone, replaced by a solid blank expression. The huntress put down her knife for a second time, went off her seat and straightly to get two big bowls. She poured one with hot water while another with cold water. Then she went back to her seat to pick up a potato, ran the blade around it horizontally and tossed it into the bowl with hot water. She repeated the process for another four before she put them into the bowl with ice water for a while. When she picked them up and rubbed as the brown skin, they came off smoothly like egg shells. She felt offensive when people refused to hear about her sisters while they were the best in this world. The huntress thought it might be a big mistake to talk about her significant other to someone she barely knew. He didn't deserve it, thus she decided to speed up her work. A bit mad but she hid it behind her calm face, like years of practice she'd had, just without the smile now.

If she was offended at the pointed suggestion, Rhys didn't make any kind of indication that he cared at all and instead just kept on peeling in relative silence, sucked into some memories of his own. He soon heard some plunking sounds coming from her side of the kitchen so he did eventually look over, then quirked a brow.
"Never seen that done before. It doesn't partially cook the potatoes or make unusable or anything like that?" If not, then he would totally be copying her whether she liked it or not.

Rhys got one glare, akin to when a cat minding its own busines, for instance washing face, got disturbed. Followed the sharp stare was nothing however. She turned her head back on the potatoes. It was only after a few minutes she spoke, "Expansion and contraction, haven't you learned that from school?' One of her sisters knew many domestic tricks and every time she'd surprised like seeing an incredible magic casted. The petite huntress continued to squint at him, "Do you really think simple water can do anything to potatoes? Yup, they're gonna explode like bombs, be careful." She stated in a monotonous tone, slowly caught up with Rhy's work.

Both the glare and following sarcasm was met with a scowl but, again, he let the unsavory thoughts pass without actually saying anything out loud. "I think 'simple water' can cook a potato if it's hot enough, that's why I asked the damn question."
With a bit of a grumble Rhys went back to peeling his portion of the potatoes in the traditional, more time-consuming way. The conversation seemed over at that point, at least as far as he was concerned, not to mention his mood had soured quite a bit since the start of their exchange, but if she had anything more to say on her end he wasn't going to stop her. If not, he was more than happy to work in silence. There was still plenty of work to do, and the faster they could get it done, the better.

Ever seen a cat had its ears folded down when you say it did something wrong? That's most likely a dog's behaviour. Rhys was just a stranger, like every strangers in that world, he was of no importance to her. It was hilarious to think if it was her in the past, she'd apologized at once and felt she did wrong. Just because she wanted everyone to like her, it was a greedy sensation she wanted more love even she had that from her sisters. She wanted to have friends, she wanted her parents to love her - Her heart was frozen, she didn't care if the man was having a bad mood because of her words, she simply didn't open her heart to people more. If they allowed her bad attitude, she would stay. If they did not, she would just leave. The petite huntress gave the unpeeled potatoes an once-over and estimated the time needed to finish them. She guessed, in the most, a few hours. She neither refute to Rhy's words as well, as if the hot water from drinking machine would boil a potato. Maybe she shall ask him to take a bite instead. After she tossed another batch into the bowl, she took a short break to finish another macaron. If every day she had to meet with annoying people like him, it won't be enough to keep her mood good no matter how much sugars she eat. She raised her head to stare at the ceiling, wondered when she would be freed from the world. It had been too long she had lived and in little hope that she'd find her reasons and meaning to stay alive. At least she could eliminate the hunter she was working from the possibility. The huntress always contemplated whether her sisters had turned into stars or guardian angels. Bit her lower lip, she resumed her boring task. x_ p a o cx sorry she's not sweet/nice at all.....

It was gonna be a long assignment, it seemed like, but Rhys peeled on. Occasionally he would still look over to see what Shu was doing but he didn't say anything else. Instead he sort of just entertained Zeph as she blabbered on about how he was being a little b***h. All he did was say he didn't wanna talk about family and all of a sudden the mood changed; how the hell was he being a little b***h?
It didn't really matter. He went on peeling, one potato, then two, three, eventually another four. Pretty soon he was half way through his sack and he looked over at Shu again and finally said something.
"You almost done?" He kind of wanted to get the hell on back to his room and take a nap.
