Kaipo nearly always knew what he wanted to do when he grew up. It wasn't a big secret- he would tell anyone that would ask him. He wanted to be a star. Not a movie star- while the silver screen could make people more famous, he felt the editing and camera angles lead to art that was a little disingenuous. No, the only real way to go was the stage. Live theatre would more real. It had it's own little tricks to keep the illusion in place, but it had to be done in real time. It was thrilling and captivating.
He could remember the first time he was taken to see a play. It wasn't something that was going to win any awards- it was some simple community theatre. It was a musical, aimed at young freshlings like he was. He fell in love instantly. Not with the play itself, but with the actors and light. He longed to be up there.
He practiced everyday that he could with singing and dancing- anything that could hone his skills so that he could land the part that would send him into stardom. Someday he would be under those lights and everyone would love the show he put on for them. Just the thought of it put a smile across the face. He had no doubts about his future success. He would make other people happy and they would love him for it. It would be perfect. He was sure of it.
