Kai sent a message to Lysander and grabbed a few crumpled boxes from his stash. With the oven out, Kai had to use the common kitchens for cooking. Water was boiling and several packets of powder were set beside boxes of elbow noodles. A few cans of soda sat on the table while Kai sat on the counter eating BBQ chips.

Lysander showed up a little while later with the unhurried saunter of someone who was used to showing up whenever he felt like it and having no one complain at him about it.
He brightened at the food. "Something looks good!" he said. "It isn't food yet though."
He looked around. "Where is the cook?" he asked, as if every kitchen came with its own cook.

"Nah gotta get the noodles tender. Then it will be done." He said, looking over at the large boiling pot of water and elbow noodles.
"What cook? You don't need no cook for boilin water. You never make Mac n Cheese?" He asked, a thick brow rising up.

Lysander gave Kai a blank look. “No?” he said, as if this was self-evident. “My family always had cooks, I barely even went in the kitchen honestly, it just never interested me.” It was just another science as far as he was concerned, done by specialised people in specialised places. He was a manager by nature, he didn’t get down to the hands-on things, his job was making sure that lots of people did their job correctly and on time.
“I like mac and cheese though.” He said. “Do you have any fries?”

"Damn. You left money? What the hell wrong with you? I can get why they would recuit some punkass from the street but bot some Richie Rich 3-piece like you." He said, giving him a wave of his hand to gesture at all of ******** wish. All I got is chips. Gonna crunch em on my noodles. You want more you gotta bring some s**t. I aint no soup kitchen." He pointed out, really wanting fries now.
"Don't you eat cavier? How you guys get mac'n cheese? Wouldn't your chefs kill demselvs?" He slid off the counter eith a heavy thud and set one of the empty boxes with the picture directions at Lysander. "All you do is boil water, dump noodles, drain and add cheese powder. They make cups ya microwave too."

"I don't know, I thought it would be interesting. I've been to a lot of retreats, camps, adventure weekends. Things like that. I thought this was like that I guess. Roswell warned me I just didn't think it was legit, I thought I could go home again."
He eyed the noodles curiously. "Oh they made me whatever I wanted, that was their job. I didn't want caviar, I wanted chicken nuggets, chips, peanut butter sandwiches, things like that."

He turned the open bag over to him to reach in if he wanted any.
"Wish I had someone to do that. Usually just picked up Mcdonalds or see what someone was cookin. Wish we had block parties here or just BBQs. Dat one girl with the tacos was nice for having that s**t out for everybody."
"You made a mistake. Loosing all your cash for this sinkhole. s**t. I would have killed for that life. Make someone make me food all da time." He shook the chip bag a little, waiting for Lysander to take any if he liked before he took some to eat and then went over to stir the noodles. Putting the bag aside, he went and drained the noodles before putting it back on the heat and tossing a chuck of butter into it to melt and then opening the fridge for a carton of milk he took from the cafeteria and poured that in. Shaking the cheese packets, he tore them open and tossed the neon orange liquid inside the pot.
He started to stir. "Never been to no retreat. You go to beaches and cruises?"

Taking a handful of crisps he gratefully munched them, keeping them carefully away from his clothing. "Yeah taco girl is a nice sort. There aren't many nice people on twitter though, they all seem a bit mean overall, even when you just want help."
He went quiet for a bit, finishing the crisps off before nodding. "Yeah I messed up, for both me and my assistant, I thought it was a joke, it wasn't a joke. And yep, used to travel all the time, beaches, cruises, backpacking trips, retreats, new age festivals, whatever. I did a lot of alternative stuff, climbed mountains, smoked weed, sought enlightenment, got stomach flu in India."

"Man, they just looking out for themselves and biting necks to feel better. Sour a** bitches. ******** em. No one lookin out for you cept your friends. Ignore em. My girl Joy and Peyton pretty nice helpin and Rep got me outta the basement. Got an apartment with Joy. Place got trashed though."
He turned off the stovetip and poured 2 large servings into two bowls. Whatever Lysander didn't eat, he'd take. Taking w mismatched forked, he sat the bowl before him and then sat down. He took a handful of chips and crushed them atop the mound of golden noodles.
"We can still leave this place on visits and get stuff. People say they smuggle in stuff or smoke out if you want any."
He cracked open one of the cans of soda. "You hqve any money stashed back home?"

"I just don't have many friends." he said. "And I'm all about networking, it's just harder here, was better in the workplace where people were friendly to one another. I'll deal with it, it's just hard"
Lys had a lot of appetite given his height and often surprised people what he could put away in a sitting.
"I don't think I'm allowed to leave right now." he said. "I think they think I'd run away." And he would.
"Money stashed? Yes. I had a lot of money in various places. Some of those places would still be there. Offshore, that kind of thing."

"You gotta prove to em you ain't bailing else you not get s**t done. But if you got cash you can get off somewhere they dont know about, I'll get it for you for a cut. They give you a fake ID when you leave dis place to drink and everyrhibg so it won't even be me and nobody got any connection between us."
"I don't know how your job work but this place is just hustling and favors. Get what people want and you get that back. Just find what people want. Then people come to you. But I hear you at knowing people. Just gotta start low. Talk to people and butterem up with little things."
He took another bite of his mac n cheese. "Why not pawn something for quick cash now?"

"Well, I'm not sure how I'm going to show them I'm not going to bail when I fully intend to. As far as getting the cash, don't know how easy it'd be when most of the accounts require various levels of security to access. It's certainly something to think about and I'll certainly cut you in when I go for it if you will help me." He smiled. "I owe Roswell quite a lot of back pay."
He sighed. "It will be hard, but I appreciate the advice. I'll "butter people up" as much as I'm able. Not just for gain but because I want to make friends here while I'm stuck here." He prodded his food with his fork, taking another bite.
"...nah I don't think I have anything worth pawning. Or would be affordable to most pawn shops."

"Yeah and they probably would try and either scam you or jump you if you showed em anything too good and you sound like you come from too good." He said, taking another bite from his Macaroni.
"So what were you doing here before all this that made you want to just go to s**t places and hide out in the woods? I'd think having cash would make you wanna stay home."

"Yeah I guess." he shrugged. "I mean to me it was just normal, it was just the way things were. I could get a car if I wanted it, I had a real nice house and my horses. It was just how it was. But it was always the same, I guess when you can have whatever you want sometimes its nice to play at places where you cant." he helped himself to more food, at least glad it was good.
"It was nice to be one of the common people I guess. To pretend and stuff. It's not so good now I'm stuck."

"That's some pristine pretending bullshit right there. That ain't living. That's just rich imagination land. Real is sitting in someone's bathroom cause the cops showed up and you don't want to be questioned. Real is being in the middle of downtown and having 5 bucks to last you the week and debating if you wanna eat now or wait another 3 hrs to stretch it out. Real is letting some a*****e pull your tooth out cause it hurts like a b***h and you don't got dental. s**t. Common people got it rough and here you are playing camp out in the woods like you got problems." He said, finishing off his noodles and pushing the bowl away.
"Being poor right now isn't even right here. You still got a bed and water and food. One step up from jail. Get to walk around and stay up when you want. Don't got money on you but you got freedoms. You can say s**t. You got a phone."
