One of the strangest things Sam had come to appreciate was her bribery of a hunter to fashion a rough comb out of a stone. It had taken days, but when those days had been used with an even rougher coconut version she had tried to make herself, the rock comb was welcomed regardless of its mediocre results.
She visited Lysander with the intent to learn more about him, but it had begun first with an offering of the comb. He had more than enough hair to take care of, and Sam guessed he might appreciate something to help tame it while they waited for help, or the calling, or whatever it was that would end their experience on the island.
"I was hoping to ask a few questions as well, if you don't mind," she added along with the offer.

One of the main problems facing Lysander on the island had been his hair. It was something he refused to compromise on, never about to cut it or do anything to it. It was important to him, one of the few things he took pride in. He’d braided it in an attempt to keep it neat when they realised they weren’t going home, but more than anything he wanted a means to comb it. He’d not at all been expecting to end up here and hadn’t brought his comb with him. It was for this reason that when sam produced the carefully crafted comb his expression absolutely lit up.
“You are a blessing.” He said with a big smile, suddenly in better spirits than his usual slightly sullen and lazy mood. “Absolutely, ask away.”

"Thank you. I will say that its detangling strength is mediocre, though..."
If Lysander made no move to comb his hair himself, Sam began the task for him. The action was repetitive and soothing, and it reminded her of her mother's nightly 100 strokes when she was a child. It was something she had carried into adulthood still, finding it cleansing to get rid of the loose and tangled ends before bed.
"Why Deus?" Sam asked him. "If that's not prying too much."

Lysander was used to only himself or Roswell brushing his hair, so his first response to Sam helping him out was surprise, tempered by just a little but of uncertainty. What if she didn't do it just right? What if it messed his hair up?
All of the doubts were pushed aside by the fact that Sam was a friend and that he really was worried about his hair and anything was welcome, any help was still help.
"Thanks." he said.
"And uh. I dunno. It seemed like fun. Hah."

"Fun?" Sam echoed curiously, moving the comb very, very slowly. She herself was tenderheaded and was cautious of snags because of it. "Not that I don't believe you, I was also intrigued when I spoke to the recruiter. But you have a successful company and a family..."

Lysander revelled in having his hair brushed and in many ways blissed out during it. He was very resilient when it came to having his hair tugged having had it so long for such a long time but a gentle hand was welcome.
"I didn't really believe them. I mean they said it would be giving up everything, that it would be being part of a fight against shadows and monsters and things. They were pretty specific about it, I just thought it was something stupid. I've been to a lot of ARGs and stuff. Or murder weekends. I figured I'd get here, see what it was like, call their bluff and then ollie out and sue them for lying."
He went quiet for a bit. "Didn't turn out quite that way I guess."

axiomatic"So, you did it just to prove yourself superior..." She didn't make it sound like a bad thing. If anything, Sam was in agreement. "Fair enough. Have you participated in many odd outings for that very reason? To investigate and pull from it the truth of the matter?"
