Tenzin, like most days, was out scouting the borders of the Western Woods with his wolf familiar, Damian. Damian had long since grown out of his puppy size, now having grown to the size of an adult wolf and with many pups to show for it. Tenzin, in turn, hadn't any foals to call his own, but he played a part in making sure the rowdy pups that Damian raised didn't get themselves into too much trouble. What he had to show for his years was the herd he was developing.
He was seeing more and more interest in the herd, which in turn was filling him with a great delight. He loved meeting those who cared for the forest as much as he did and who were willing to step up to protect it, in whatever way they could. He could see that his companion was equally as happy, perhaps just by seeing Tenzin come out of his shell and interact with others regularly.
Tenzin was no longer the shy stallion he used to be. Now he spent countless hours talking to the members and prospective members of his herd. He wanted to make sure everyone felt included and taken care of and he was ready to do what he could to make them comfortable. It was a dream come true and he could only hope that it became a herd that would last for generations to come.
He had awoken to check in with his group, make sure all was well and then he set off patrolling the southern border near the plains, while he'd sent Serafina to check in the north. She was a strong mare and he had faith that she could become more if she applied herself. That said, he did hope to find her some other Guardians to join her in her rank. He could see her being a fine patrol leader some day.
So on he walked with Damian scouting just ahead of him as he wondered what the day would bring and what the following years had in store for him as well.

Tlaloc could see ahead a nice forest area, he wondered if it was in habited with a herd already, as he was at the southern border of this new land he was venturing upon, he looked up, and noticed a fox, and fellow pony that seemed to be patrolling the area, unsure of how they would respond to another male entering the herd, Tlaloc decided to nestle down in the long grass of the field he laid there watching the two interact, and as they drew nearer towards him, he decided to take a deep breath, and stood up. Tlaloc thought to himself they seem to interact rather nicely.
Now that he stood up so they could see him clearly he knew he had to be part of this heard, and was willing to show what he could offer to the herd. He decided he was going to prance right up to the herd leader and make his acquaintance. He let out a brave neigh to introduce himself and waited for the response of what must be this herds leader.

It was Damian who caught the mini's scent first, but since he didn't see anyone, he thought it best not to intrude if the Soquili didn't want to be interrupted.
"Let's check over here, Tenzin." He suggested to his large companion, leading him away from the plains. They weren't here to disrupt others homes is they had already made them and weren't interested in approaching. They were just here to invite others to join there group. They were about to turn away, when the other Soquili suddenly sprang up from the grass like a plant and neighed at them. Damian and Tenzin glanced at one another. Well, that was new.Tenzin had been willing to follow his companion's lead, but suddenly another Soquili appeared just a little ways into the forest and caught his attention. He perked his ears forward, cast a glance at Damian and then approached with a smile on his face.
"Hello there, friend." He began. "What might we help you with today?" He paused and then went on. "If you seek shelter, my herd is gathered just in the middle of these woods. You're welcome to stay there as long as you like."

"Hello as well to you my new friend" Tlaloc was relieved that it was a polite greeting and a welcoming into the herd. "I was looking to join a herd that was suited to fit me, and it seems I have found my new place to call home" Tlaloc looked down at his new herd leaders' companion. Was at a distance looking that of a fox, but up-close Tlaloc realized it was now a wolf. He leaned his neck down to get a better look at the leader's companion squinting a little bit, and said: " oh you are a wolf, I see ." Standing back up he looked up into the stallion's face. "I should properly introduce myself to you and your friend, My name is Tlaloc, but you can Call me Talc if it is easier for you. I am grateful for the generous hospitality and would love to join in your herd, as you can see I come in handy for blending into my surroundings, and I Think I am best suited to be in a herd such as yours. You are a most welcoming leader, and I can see given time we can grow strong under your leadership."

Tenzin was certainly surprised and flattered by the words of the mini who called himself Tlaloc. The small stallion spoke as though he had been observing Tenzin's herd for quite some time, yet they had never seen him before. He knew that it couldn't be for lack of looking either or for most of the members being too tall to see him. Nanyehi was about this stallion's height, Tenzin mused and she had very keen eyes to boot. So how did this stallion know so much about them?
"Well, we are happy to have someone so eager." He said with a smile. "I am quite interested in knowing how you you came to know of my herd." He started to turn. "But for the time being, let me take you back into the herd and get you acquainted. In the meantime, tell me a little about yourself." He proposed, wanting to know the stallion's strengths and weaknesses, his interests and hobbies. Anything that would give Tenzin more of an idea of where Tlaloc may be best placed in the herd, if the little stallion didn't desire to decide himself.Damian had been just as equally surprised, but there was a comment that was getting under his fur. "Of course I'm a wolf." He muttered, following behind the two equines from a short distance, his ears perked in case they came across anyone else. "What else would I be? A squirrel?"

Tlaloc cleared his throat. " Well I have been nestled down around in the grassy plains here for a couple days, I would watch your herd from a distance, since I am brave, and not foolish I was contemplating on how to approach the herd the best way that I could with out causing a ruckus. I like to calculate and analyze things before I rush into them. That being said though I was starting to get lonely, and began thinking about what it would be like to join your herd. Due to my features, I seem to be overlooked quite often as I blend in with my surroundings naturally especially if it is in a high grassy area." Tlaloc smiled and thought about what to say to the herd leader. "Well I have great stamina which means even for my size I should be able to keep up with the herd no matter what the case maybe. I consider that a strength due to my size. I also seem to have a lot of good luck on my side I attribute that to being a forest dweller, and the offerings I have made to the totem. I am not the fastest, but for that weakness, I do not mind since I can still maintain keeping up with the herd due to my stamina. My other weakness is I have just a tad lower Iq, but I think given time, and learning from my fellow herd dwellers that will also improve."
Pausing to think about where would be best to start in the new herd Tlaloc looked up as he walked next to the leader. " I think that I am best suited to be a helper in the herd, since I quite enjoy helping others, and by my helping them it helps me to improve on things as well."
Tlaloc looked down towards the familiar, and let out a slight muffled chuckle. "Well my new friend it appears I could not tell from the distance that you were a wolf, I have to sometimes look at things rather up close as my vision can sometimes not be at its best." Pausing to try to put a serious face on. "Well no I didn't think you were a squirrel, although now that you mention it I do find the thought of mistaking you for that would have been very funny. I mistook your appearance for that of a fox though."

If anything, Tenzin was impressed. The mini was very self-certain, that was plain to see. He presented himself as though he had been planning his words very carefully for a very long time. He hadn't expected so much from such a small creature, especially when his meeting with Nanyehi had been so different. Still, all were different and all were accepted into his herd who wished to to help and he was happy to have such an easy new recruit.
So on they went and as Tenzin listened to the other. "Well then, that's certainly quite a strong argument to keep you in the herd, though I've already made up my mind, as I've said earlier, to take you on. We have many ranks that make up our herd. We have our Healers and Dryads, to take care of fauna and flora, respectively. We also have our Guardians, who protect the forest and our Scouts, who travel out into the forest and report back to the herd's camp of anything interesting that occurs. The bulk of our herd is made up of our Helpers, those who wish to help in any way they can. Sometimes they gather food to be stored in the cold seasons, while other times they can be called upon by another rank to aid them."
Tenzin looked down to Tlaloc as they walked, stopping to smile at him. "I too think, for the time being, it is best that you choose the path of a Helper. That will give you the experience needed to become fully integrated within the herd and if you choose to Apprentice to another rank later, that's completely within your ability." He informed the other. "Unless you strongly object to my proposal?" He honestly believed this was the right path for the new, eager member, but he would not shut down Tlaloc's alternative suggestion, if he had one.Damian sniffed and pointed his nose in the air. That was it, he decided that this small pawed mini was not one he initially liked. Still, he had been successfully recruited, so Damian would get used to him, he supposed. For the meantime, he simply dashed up ahead, past the shrub-pony and his bonded.
"I'm going on ahead to alert the herd of our new member!" He called back to the others, happy to be seeing his sons and daughters in the place of his current company. When his bonded nodded at him, off he went, running through the woods while Tenzin remained behind.

[self proxy for my main VelvetVixie] Walking along with Tenzin he watched the leaders bonded familiar Trott off and head off first towards the herd to let them know of his arrival.
"You spoke of a position a moment ago which you called a dryad, their specialty being that of taking care of the fauna, and flora. I should like to counter your proposal of me becoming a herd helper."
Tlaloc stopped walking for a moment, pausing to think about his approach to asking for a new rank in the herd. When he realized he could make the proposal in a fitting way he picked up his pace and trotted up next to Tenzin. Then slowed his pace back to the normal walking speed they were paced at.
"I have a rather fond connection to that of nature more specifically I tend to do well with fauna, and especially flora, with your permission I should like to take on an apprenticeship role of that which you referred to as Dryad. I would be able to help the herd with my natural ability to connect with the fauna, which could help if there was something a scout may have missed, and the herd needed to be informed upon. With the flora I have a natural knack for finding rare plants, and I can make them thrive, I could also keep a common variety of the flora in a separate garden for the herd to be able to stash away for times when food would seem low or scarce. What would you say to my request change, would you be willing to give this small eager new herd member a shot at becoming a dryad?"

Tenzin's ears flicked in his amusement. This small stallion sure liked to parrot words back to him, didn't he? Sometimes entire phrases. Tenzin had only mentioned 'fauna and flora' once, yet he was certain that the Usdia beside him had echoed the words back to him at least three times, maybe even four.
Still... There was a lot that this small stallion had to learn and he couldn't suddenly ascend the ranks of the herd based on an eagerness to learn. If he had a more experienced member to teach him how to be a Dryad, he would be more accepting to the idea, but as it was... Unless...
"I will consider your offer," He told the stallion. "For the time being, I still believe you should be a Helper. You know a lot about my herd from what you've observed from the outside, but once you're apart of my herd, it's different from just observing from afar. As a Helper, you'll learn the basics of what the herd is like and what is requires to thrive. This is information you need to learn, Tlaloc." He added, looking pointedly at the smaller stallion. "I will see if there is someone willing to mentor you as a Dryad Apprentice once you have learned the ways of our herd. Agreed?"

[self proxy for my main VelvetVixie] Tlaloc watched Tenzin's ear flicking, and assumed it was a good sign, he rather looked up to his new herd leader and was most excited to follow in the leader's footsteps.
"Thank you Tenzin for consideration of my offer, and I am most trusting of your judgment I think you are correct I shall start off in this herd as a helper, like you mentioned observing the herd, and actually being in the herd are two very different situations to be in." Nodding his head up and down to show his agreement of the new herd arrangement of his New herd leader. "Agreed when the time comes I shall be ready for the apprenticeship of your approved teacher for me once I have integrated better into the herd."

Tenzin smiled, pleased that they had reached an agreement and nodded. "Excellent." He concluded. "Well then, without any further delay, let us get you to your new herd and introduce you to everyone." And so off they went and Tenzin couldn't help wondering how much his herd would grow in the future.
