During his performance with the truth ring night, Melvin had spent over a week generally avoiding others as best as a small island allowed. After time passed he often kept occupied fishing and gathering for himself or others amd talking to those that passed by. Sometimes he'd swim out as far as he could and swim back to shore just so he wouldn't get sluggish with diving on the off chance they got home. There were times he would sit in the sand, making runic symbols over and over or mutter to himself as he traced out layouts for a house. When the days got longer and his mood more depressed, he'd write out mission reports complete with his signature before the sea would wash it away.
Quote: Anyone is free to join and start a drabble post interacting with Melvin covering any point in the year they spent on the island.

[Quiet]Jordan had stopped talking once Ferros had gone silent. He still fished and sometimes swam, but he spent a lot of time asleep. For now, he was awake. He wandered down the beach to where Melvin was writing in the sand, carrying a broken-open coconut with the coconut milk still inside, and offered the coconut to Melvin.

DiscoveryThere wasn't much else to do, so Ever stood on the shore and stared out toward the horizon, where a fair-haired figure surfaced between the waves, disappearing and then reappearing farther away or closer. The sight of it sent a shudder down his spine, a slow trickle of sweat under the collar of his shirt, a strange fear at just how far away they dared to go. When Melvin decided he'd had enough and swam back, Ever was still sitting and watching, still a little shaky and nervous. But he looked up and offered a flash of a smile, brief, across his face. "Find anything good?"

Quiet He had been zoned out for some time, his mind focused on curves and angles before the string of reality tugged him back as his senses picked up on a nearby presence. Stopping, he looked straigjt up and blinked before he looked around to see Jordan holding out a coconut.
"Thanks." He said in a way that was thanks for the thought and not the fact it was coconut and not hard liquor or even just anything other than coconut. "If we get off this island, I think I'll burn every cocnut tree on Deus just so I never see one again." He took a sip and was at least glad for something to drink.
Leaning on the piece of driftwood he waa using as a writing utensil, he decided to take a break. "Any news or...idle thoughts? Could even go for an antedote." Discovery Pulling himself out of the water, he took deep breathes and laid down on the beach. As of late, he had pushed himself more knowing with Saliva quiet, he was probably defenseless now. Yet being exhausted helped the terrible thoughts of the cove or centipedes that came at night.
"Nothing but waves and sea but I guess that's better than a squid. Water is no different than anywhere else. Thanks for spotting though but I haven't drifted yet." Which is what he assumed Ever was out here doing.

QuietJordan nodded, and sat down in the sand, brushing his hair back out of his eyes absentmindedly. He leaned his elbows on his knees and studied what Melvin was drawing while Melvin drank. A steady diet of seafood, coconut, and water was not the most interesting thing in the world, but the gesture of bringing food was still something. He shook his head a little to the question, and took a breath as if he was going to speak. But the silence in his head was ringing, deafening, a ragged absence that he couldn't quite get around, and he closed his mouth again, giving Melvin an apologetic look. He angled his thumb at the drawing in the sand and tilted his head, inquiring.

Quiet He wasn't sure what to make of Jordan's complete silence but left it alone for just this moment. Maybe he was tired or maybe he accidentally drank some salt water and his throat was raw.
"Oh. I was practicing my runics. I don't want to just forget them all because I haven't used them, so I'm pretending this is the side of a TV at the moment. Was going to do a toaster next." He said looking at the runes as the shore crept in and already started to eat away at the top of it.
Looking back, he frowned. "You okay? Hurt your throat?"

QuietJordan nodded to the explanation, but at the question he froze briefly. He looked away, then back; he didn't really have a good way to explain, even to himself, why it was so difficult to speak now. "Gone," he managed to force out, past the ragged hoarse feeling, and held up Ferros's ring to indicate what he was talking about. It could have been an illusion, but it seemed to him as though the red stone had lost its depth and fire, looking strangely dull and flat.

QuietIt was strange to have Jordan be this quiet, but if he didn't feel like speaking or couldn't, there was no reason to force it right now. Taking a sip of his coconut, he nodded. "I haven't heard Saliva in a while. I'm worried if we get attacked again, we might not make it."
He frowned. "It's really quiet without having that same person you've had for years there."

QuietJordan nodded, looking miserable. He held his hand out and tried to summon; there was a brief shimmer in the air, as though it was about to work, but the hammer didn't materialize, remained a ring. If they had to fight anything, he might not be entirely helpless, but he was certainly badly handicapped. He scrubbed a hand across his eyes and nodded again. Quiet didn't really cover the sensation of absence, but it would do. He could stand to be alone for an hour now and then, with Ferros in a weapon golem, still there and still active. This was different, day after day after day of a void where his partner should be.

QuietThe offer was a relief. Jordan accepted the stick and leaned over to write in the smooth sand. Sorry. Throat tries to close up if I talk. The emptiness is too loud.He paused and looked at that, his expression rueful. Sounds crazy I guess, he added, and on a new line, Saliva too?

Quiet
Melvin moved aside to give Jordan room to write, and read slowly as he wrote out the words.
"Yeah. She went quiet too. She was pretty quiet though so guess its' easier. It's more that my head feels lighter. Like a warm weight isn't there and it's giving me a headache to have it so open."
He was glad that Jordan could at least write out things. "You and Ferros close then?"

QuietWe're close. Did that on purpose, work together better, but problems if he's gone. It was the short version. If Melvin had questions, they were probably better asked when Jordan could speak properly again. He had to assume that that would happen, that Ferros would be back, sometime, somehow. The alternative wasn't a thought he could face.

waterworldOne rather nice thing Zeke had found about the island that they weren't afforded back on Deus; a relatively safe beach where there weren't monsters lurking beneath the waves lying in wait for someone to swim past so they could eat them. Here it was just a beach. Here Zeke could get a temporary reprieve from sleeplessness and nicotine withdrawal by indulging in a hobby he really hadn't gotten to partake in much since signing up as a hunter. He was doing lazy laps back and forth along a stretch of coast line. Arms breaking the surface in long, smooth strokes.

waterworld Melvin has been sitting on some rocks looking at the wave pools as he took a break and drank some of the fresh water from the cove from a coconut when he had spotted someone swimming. And not just swimming, but swimming well. Slowly drinking, he watched as they went lap after lap, each one showing how much stamina and endurance they had while keeping form.
It didn't take long for Melvin to find the equivalent of prime time television on the island.
